Hi Everyone,

My son William has been followed, along with the rest of our family, for the past 9 years by a Channel 4 documentary called Born to be Different. The documentary is following the lives of 6 children with disabilities and their families charting the dreams, desires, joys, and trials of childhood with a disability.

William has a genetic disorder called Tuberous Sclerosis. The condition means that he has multilple tumours in his brain, kidneys eyes and skin. He suffers from severe intractible epilepsy, ADHD, Autisum, and is developmentaly delayed.

The fourth series of the documentary, covering the past 2 years, is due to be screened on Tues 28th April and Tues 5th May at 9pm on Channel 4. It is not always easy viewing but over the years has followed him through the highs of his first football match through to the lows of 9 hours of neurosurgery.

Life with William is never dull and boring. He was my inspiration to get into photography as I could never get a decent photo of him with a compact camera and ended up spending a fortune on a DSLR :bang::bang:. He is also the reason for me being a sporadic poster on here.

William also has a website that is www.william-tsc.co.uk

The flyer shown below also contains my first ever published picture of William. A larger version is available on my Flickr site.

Bloody hell Nick, sounds like you have an awful lot of stuff going on, I am amazed you find time for any photography, though your flickr says you obviously do find some time. Huge kudos to you and your family, very best wishes for William and Paula and just shouting down the stairs to Mr Yv to set the sky to record the programs

Thanks for that Yv. Photography has become my little bit of peace, quiet and escapism. William also teaches you that there is a lot in life that we take for granted and to sometimes actually look at what is under your nose and to enjoy it.

Ta in advance for watching

Wow puts things in perspective will be watching with out doubt

As I said in my PM, I'll be keeping an eye out for this.
Any parent who has so much to deal with has my utmost respect

Thanks Marcel, you are a top man

It is now pick of the day in a fair few listings magazines and I have been quoted in the Sunday Mail - not bad

Shameless Bump for the first episode in the series tonight. It is pick of the day in just about all of the listings for today .

Thanks in advance of watching

Well just Williams segment.
Kudos to you both for coping as well as you do. When he pinched your wife's face, myself and my wife winced in pain..
However, it looks like there's a lovely little boy there underneath all the challenges :)
Life certainly does throw us curveballs doesn't it?

PS. Did you save me any cake?

Thanks for that Marcel. He certainly knows how to put us through the mill at times.

As you say he is a lovely little boy and incredably cheeky and funny at times. You sometimes get glimpses of what may have been without the problems and challenges.

He is in it a lot more next week and it also covers Paula's diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis and how it affects her as his main carer. I sometimes wonder not who's dog I have kicked but which kennels I burnt down :bang:

Hey whats life without a challenge - don't like to be bored :help:

Oh and by the way the cake was luuuuurvley but it has all gone now...mmmmm

I watched this and I dont know how you stay so clam. If someone grabbed my face like that I wouldnt be able to stay calm so a HUGE  to you and your wife!!

YOu have my upmost respect :)

I watched the programme last night after seeing this thread. I found it interesting and very moving.

Thanks for agreeing to be part of such an enlightening and inspiring programme.

Alex

Thanks for that Alex. Originally it was only going to be one programme but we are now 10 programmes and 9 years in . Our intention of taking part was to inform and raise the profile of children with disabilities and try and stop some of the discrimination and prejudice that seems to be present, all be it by a minority, in today's society. I feel that the fact that we get in excess of 2.5 million viewers we have gone a long way to achieving this.

Thanks for watching
