TP Member ButtonMoon on TV....NOW!!!!!

Will you be on tv again if you make a new cake

Darren, yeah im on again 21st April...either have to modify the one i did or do a new design, but to be honest im way too busy for any of it!! so might just have to slightly modify the design i did so i can use all the figures again etc x

yeah i had to take it to london with me almost finished. finish it off live in studio (we got less time than i first thought) and then the reveal....we brought it back with us as lots of people have their names on a slice! LOL

What can you win from it? Is it worth the effort in creating something new?

lol no, theres no prize! not bothered about a prize to be honest, it was just nice to be asked to do something so exciting (but scary!) and im flattered they asked me to do it!
the final will be between me (and two other winner decided in the next two Thursday's) and i THINK whoever wins...the studio crew get to eat their cake LOL.

Nice to win, but not essential for the business then!

You can already say you're a finalist though.

lol no....obviously its always nice to win, bet deffo not essential! i have orders till december already....i just wished i actually made money from it LOL

i also heard they may want to feed the winning cake to the crowds outside at the royal wedding...which is a WHOLE week after the final!!! lots of food poisoning claims going in im guessing LOL

Cant be easy to transport something that delicate,

your a winner in our books  , good luck with the rest of the competition

thanks Dave, thats really nice :) xx

yeah it sure was stressful the entire time! a few flags blew off and a minor mishap with a corgi's ear but i managed to fix those!
i didnt get in till 2am this morning :( LOL

Have Channel 4 given you any kind of appearance money for going on the show? I'd assume if you were charging the going rate for a cake like yours then it would cost a couple of hundred quid or more. If there is no prize at the end then this seems like very cheap TV for Channel 4.

Obviously you get the honour of being on TV and having your amazing cakes seen by millions(?) of people but it must have cost a lot to make the cake and go down to London for the show.

yeah they didnt pay for the cake (but ive heard they are going to pay the cost of ingredients for the final cake)
and they are going to give us something towards petrol.
yeah cost me a fortune to make this cake...not something i can afford really with trying to save for a wedding!

I did walk away with a card from fern and 2 bottles of hand soap though  xx

Is there no way you could make a new cake in the time you have

Exposure like this doesn't come along often, having a win as high a profile as this can only be a good thing

You say you don't live in an area where people will pay top money but I beg to differ

Within 40 miles you have the ribble valley
Cheshire, south manchester which has the highest concentration of millionaires outside of London

Think big all these people get married and have family birthdays

Some years ago there was a shop in Liverpool making cakes like yours the amount of people that stopped in their tracks when they saw them was unbelievable

Tracey,

Do you have a decent advisor/accountant? I just started my photography business last year and I am claiming all my kit back against the tax I paid. There is a good chance you can claim all manner of stuff back like your electricity/gas, ingredients, travelling, phone, camera!, computer! etc etc.....

Certainly worth looking at!

Darren

im afraid not...if its sponge it can only be made a few days in advance (and i have a wedding cake and a birthday cake to do that week too!) so really dont have the time. one of the crew members said it would be quite hard to come up with another design to top the one i already did so i may have to just stick with that which would be a big help...id just ahve to come up with some clever way of making it better. (ive incorporated lights n sounds into a cake before so may go down that route again!)

LOL i live in Bacup....Chav central :) And im sure Cheshire already has a well established/reputable cake shop...infact i think its a cake studio?

xx

well i had a business advisor but he was basically leaving me to it as i was staying small/not making money...i think hed rather concentrate on going big.

i can claim some sort of percentage on lighting etc but not sure on all that yet...i have all the stuff i need apart from the certificate for the kitchen...i havent ventured down that route yet due to how busy i am! LOL

It is certainly worth looking at. If you can claim all your cake making kit, camera equipment, computer etc as capital expenses in the first year plus all the running expenses then you can use this to offset any tax you might have already paid. It's worth a quick chat to find out.

Just because there is a reputable cake shop in Cheshire already doesn't mean people wont look at other alternatives. You need to get your website up and get advertising in the right places. Wedding fayres are good too, but some are expensive for the number of people attending.

I also remember the one in Liverpool, I always had a good look as I went passed.

i have to have a good think about what im going to do with my business first...as it stands im not making any money...or if i am, its very little.

Ive decided i do NOT want to freeze my cakes like shops do...whats the point in baking a nice fresh cake..only to freeze it!! id want to eat it straight away!

But if i bake each cake totally fresh like i do already....thats limits me to how many cakes i can make a week....so to have an actual income those cakes would have to be priced highly, rather than make cheaper cakes but tons of them.

does that even make sense?! LOL

Perfect sense! ;)

We watched it on 4oD earlier Tracey. Looked fantastic! Good luck in the final.

Bottom line, if you don't make money on 20 cakes a week, you might as well charge more and not make money on 10 cakes a week for half the work at double the price.

I just googled novelty cakes

The first hit didn't have any prices but some of them didn't look great

the second hit came up with prices from £150-£300 so that's where you need to be to make money at it

Gonna watch it later tonight when I get in from work.

Bacup being chav central???? you need to shut the gates on the road from Rochdale, lol.

The first hit I got in google (search for wedding cake) was a company in the same town as yourself. There cakes aren't anything special, but no prices on the website.

Well done Tracey on winning the competition. As soon as we saw your cake we knew you would win.

I didn't like the comment that one of the judges (was it Jenny Bond) made to the younger girl. Something similar to "Are you old enough to be out this late". :nono:

I did like (and agree with) the comment the lady in the middle made. She said the winning cake had was unique and all the small details were flawless. Or something like that anyway.

Top stuff Tracey myself and Mrs Snap knew yours would win it stood head and shoulders above the others. Brilliant.

Andy

Congratulations Tracey. The cake looked wonderful.

Congratulations Tracey. The cake looked wonderful.

It certainly did.

I didn't see which charity Tracey chose to give the cake to. Is TP a registered charity? :D

Tracey: When Fern mentioned you had won a new food mixer, Lorna said "oooh.... what will she be doing with her old one?"

Well done Tracey and good luck for the final. Putting backup ont'map xx

Hmmm . Note to self. Pay attention to posting dates . . . and don't skip pages! :)

awww thanks Guys!

LOL i wasnt expecting that win at all!! i was well shocked! I thought Janne would win with her very royal looking wedding cake!

Im amazed i have a new mixer....those things cost £300+ and we saved so hard for the first one, so being handed one was just amazing!

I didnt get to choose the charity....they were giving it to a local one which i think was trinity hospice?!
They said if they manage to get any pictures they would forward some though ;) xxx

Well from what I saw of the cake it was fantastic. Yours was way more proffesional and polished than the others, which in themselves where great.

Exquisite was one word I heard, and it wasn't even slightly off the mark.

Your 15 minutes of fame I'm sure will have repercusions that will be fantastic.

Maybe 5 years from now we will see you having taken the plunge and opened a shop :D

the comments the judges made are some im not going to forget for a long time!
I mean...Jane ASHER!!! None of us knew who the judges were till the day...we thought the audience were voting!

LOL still dont think ill have a shop...cost too much to run! ha ha
