TP 52'ers Class of 2016 Discussion thread Week 52 we made it! time to celebrate /( celebrations)

I hadn't realised Thursday is the new Friday.
I'm off for a couple of days this week so I thought I'd make the most of it too ;)

Is
Abandonded
a variation of the
Abandoned
word?

At this moment? I don't :(

How the hell am I supposed to shoe horn a gob shot into that theme ?
How about a Zebra - A-Band-On :D

<EDIT> Hang On... how the hell do I fit THAT word in the little box :bat:

4rsebiscuits. So, I was rattling off a few lower key shots of my son and after mucking around with the lighting for the umpteenth time, my softbox (which was attached to my only strobe) fell over. Strobe hit the ground and I think some magic smoke must have escaped because it doesn't switch on any more :(

Opened the little critter up (discharging the caps carefully) and I can't get the thing working so it looks like I'm in the market for a new 300-400ws strobe :(

I did manage to get one nice shot of my son, though:

Lesson learned: buy better lightstands which are weighted so they can take an extended 1m softbox without falling over!

Thanks Dean! I know it's bad form to stick photos up on this thread but I was fed up after breaking some kit so wanted to cheer myself up :)

I managed four shots before it toppled over - at least it didn't hit him (don't know how because it was just inches away from him!)
Nothing wrong with the odd image in here mate, it is a discussion thread and the photo helps promote that for me, glad it missed him :) there again might of been handy if we get a 'bump' or 'bruised' theme :D

He's four... he needs absolutely no help in acquiring bumps and bruises!

Today we only had one incident of blood and it wasn't bad. And I wasn't responsible!

As Dean Said Paul @pjm1 thats a right b****r :(
And no, nothing wrong with the odd one here and there, but there are still a few people that can't get their head round " post your images here, but no comments" :D

Ha Haaaa they soon bounce back at that age don't they, once they get over the shock :)

I think the parents get more of the shock than the kids!

Ha ha, I noticed that and felt your pain ;)

I look at the "retirement" of the strobe as an opportunity to get two new ones... (I'm hoping Mrs pjm1 doesn't read this!)

Could I just seek advice from those of you who've done this before?

I've got 'happy' shots, which are perfectly fine but completely uninspired - I'm bang out of inspiration maybe because I'm far from happy at the moment. Now that the next theme is under way, do you reckon it's better to just post what I've got and move on, or to wait until I've got something I'm happy with? I can't work out which is more demotivational: falling behind or being less than happy with the shots...

Post and move on, you can always reshoot in future if you think of something better. If you build up a backlog because there may be something better round the corner you are just going to get further behind, the topic after abandoned is only 7 (or even 6) days away.

Keep in mind that old project management maxim

"Quick, let's get behind now so we have longer to catch up"

This ^^

Post what you've got and move on. I'm a week behind also and will see what I can do to nail both over the weekend. What will be, will be [emoji4]

Oh, and I still intend on going back to do "old" as well!

Totally up to you. I've done both.
IIRC I had one shot last year that took me 20 weeks to get something that I felt was postable and DK had one 33 weeks behind.
Alternatively I have also posted meh shots on the basis I probably wasn't going to achieve anything better...

Hi Nick ....don't forget we get the occasional reshoot so you can always go back to one that you're not too happy with. I like to keep up, but it's more a personal choice as I did get behind once and it's a bit of a slog to catch up. The main thing is don't get despondent, everyone has good and rubbish weeks, sometimes it's best just to post and move on.

Ooops ...there were no posts when I started writing ....I stopped to eat my fresh cream chocolate eclair :)

As everyone's said, @nickbee, it's totally up to you. The only rules are your rules!

If I were in your position, I'd hang on to that photo and maybe even upload it to flickr or whatever you use. But not submit it as such until you've mulled it over a bit. It's not as if you've really fallen behind, because you can post what you have at any time (even December!) and in the intervening period, you might find yourself inspired. Or not - it won't matter, because you know by the end of the challenge you'll have a Happy shot come what may.

Imo. ..from someone whose done 52s and 365s and even 24s ..... post what u got and ask for feedback...listen/ research then learn. .. by the end of the 52 u will look back on ur firsts seeing where u came from to where u r now.....don't get behind... these projects are about growing...not for kicking ur self as a shot isn't good enough...

Hi Nick @nickbee ... all good advice above.

"bang out of inspiration"? ...

>Maybe spend some time looking at images on net, get inspired by other photographers, add your own slant.

>Look up the word and think along the lines of alternative, little-used meanings, or simply avoid the obvious, ie. happy=smile whereas happy to my mind can mean a palm tree and an overflowing box of oranges ... (props I saw at a juice stall in my local shopping centre earlier this week but didn't have a camera with me).

>Think processing ... I'm currently thinking Abandoned ... a three legged van gogh chair would be too much to find but something similar in B&W or HDR.

Nick, don't forget the 52 mantra in those weeks where inspiration is lacking.....

Post and be damned!

:D

Thanks all. I'll just man up and get something posted. (y)

I know I'm running behind - don't put me on the naughty list I was all set to do it yesterday and I had food colouring rather than writing icing realised too late to go shopping and today I'm working 10-2230 so will catch up tomorrow!!

Wrong time of the year :(

Well I had the grand daughter over for a couple of days and suggested we take her shopping, then run off and leave her and then I sneak back and get a photo of her looking lost and confused....the wife suggested that I find something else...
