I must be getting soft ;)

Interpret this which ever way you want.
You can either
1) Refuse to do the theme
or
2) Just treat it as Refuse ( ie garbage )
;)

Easy and done already, I'll just re-post my last two weeks shots as they are pretty garbage! (Refuse) ;) :)
That's cheating :p

Should be fun seeing the composition of rubbish :D
Didn't someone make a lot of money out of a piece of so called art that was just a pile of rubbish?

And if you are "stuck" just remember

Tbh, I can't understand this tit for tat comment issue. Surely we all comment on each others photos, that's the whole point of the 52. I may not comment on all every week, but do try to cover everyone's photos over a 2 week period.
I also try to be as fair as possible in feedback, things I like, dislike, maybe try it a different way.
I still enjoy the challenge. I like to think you get out, what you put in.
If the 52 is still going next year, I'll still be in it.

I have just seen THIS , WTF, I really don't know what to say

Bit of a shocker! I suppose us bad guys will just have to carry on with our tit for tat commentary!

Would someone explain what this actually means, I try to give critique on as many of everyone's photos as I can, I do not look at who has commented on my photos and who hasn't I am just happy anybody could be bothered to look and comment!

If anyone feels I have not commented on their photos and they want me to please just ask, I thought we were a friendly lot on the 52 and I am always happy to have a chat with anyone even old hissy!:)

This is not directed at you Allan just the thread you linked to.

Oooohhh no, I've hit the like button.

Tit for tat might be too strong to say, it might be because if you look back on last years 52 comments would be a lot. This year it seems to of dropped right down, but some have dropped out so it could be down to that too
Well I am enjoying this years 52, I think there have been some great images produced and I have received some useful critique that have helped me improve my photos.

I also think it has been a s*** year in the outside world for just about everyone I know and a general air of malaise appears to of spread around the country, just my opinion of course but it would not surprise me that a little of it has worked its way into the 52.

People are grumpy this year, but I blame the weather, it has been so nice we british have not had the weather to moan about so we found other things!:dummy:

I've read it and replied. If read between the lines your'll get the idea.
Particularly the bit about reciprocating or even saying thanks for the help or comments ;)

But I might not reply :p
Oh f***, I just did :D

Yes exactly, I was amazed by the original post in the other thread by someone who was always to busy to bother commenting but seems surprised that he wasn't getting any feed back :wideyed: its a funny old world

@Bearair I agree with your posts above though I don't think the weather has anything to do with it, just some sense of privilege if thats the right word

@Dave70D people drop out every year Im really sorry you have been left with the rest of us, never mind eh

It happens in other forums to, ;) If someone helps me or comments on my images, I'll always return and say thanks.
And vice versa, I expect a thanks or even a like will suffice, its just manners ..... some people rarely if ever do.

I am not fussed Allan, as there are still some great photographers in the 52 what I said was, it`s a shame so many have dropped out :p

I'm afraid the glue that held the 52 together has been missing for some months -- Dark Knight.

how about bringing the subject up here? my problem with the 52 is that people don't get involved, so whats your excuse?

The post you are talking about was in ref to my tree frog on the front page, and therefore nothing to with the 52.

Plus, when I posted that I was leaving the 52, I gave my reasons fro doing so then.

I did get very involved for a while, but I always asaid that I would only comment on pics I had soemthing to say abnout, I dont like the "like" thing and also wastefull "nice shot" posts.

Youve obviously got a bee in your bonnet about me.

No bee in bonnet here about you Mark but you seem to have a problem with the “tit for tat” commenting here as you put it

Fair enough and I agree it is different this year, but is that not down to people not getting involved.
I also don’t like the use of the like button or the “nice shot” comments but I don’t let it worry me.

Anyway Mark I really don’t have a problem with you, enjoy the rest of your day

And I will bid you all farewell, if the mods on here are going allow people to be insulted by loud mouthed ass holes just looking for arguments, I cant be bothered. Really enjoyed my time here on the 52 with people actually interested in photography.

There are plenty of assholes on the forum Roger don’t let them ruin it for you.

The moderators job is a hard one, trying to balance healthy debate and outright rude aggressiveness. I think i know the thread you are talking about and the member, which is why I left commenting on that thread a while ago (although I do still read the thread). I would hate to think that the actions of one person would make you question the need to stay or leave the forum.
Carry on on here and just ignore (with the ignore button) those you have no intrest in hearing from. :)

Spot on
If we banned everyone that was an arse at times, the membership would soon get thinned out :D
TBH we try and let it "ride" until there are direct insults.
( & the kind that gets caught by the swear filter).
And I will bid you all farewell,
As Dom, said, Roger, you have a facility that the mods don't have, its very useful at times.
Try using it and not let one person spoil your enjoyment

Just had a quick tot-up, 15 people have posted 40 photos since the first Thursday of August, it's a bit skewed by a couple of fairly big catch-ups but there have been 3 Thursdays in that time so we should be at around 45 photos. Also August is a holiday month so there could be people away but I didn’t spot anyone obviously missing. Out of that I recon there are about 10 consistent weekly posters, the others tend to post catch-ups in batches.

Question is, what do we want to do? I want to see the year out, even if just for my own enjoyment but I think there are too few regulars now for the lively vibrant community this once was. Thoughts that come to mind are:
  • Carry on regardless and accept that commenting will be somewhat dull
  • Carry on but drop the commenting, that is not to say people shouldn’t comment but no one should expect comments
  • Publish the remaining 19 weeks of themes in one go and effectively shut the thing down but this would still allow people to carry on if they want.

I’m sure there are other suggestions but it feels to me like we need a plan for an orderly finish to the year rather than people falling away one-by-one

Ah don't shut it down. Its my first year and ive really enjoyed it. Ive had a bit of a blip recently on the comments and posting in the past 3 weeks. But im gonna get caught up and try to get back to regular comments and stuff.

Question is, what do we want to do?
I take all those points Chris
  • I don't mind posting 19 themes in one hit, in this locked thread if thats what people want,
  • If its to continue next year I think someone else should keep the crib sheet ( and or finish this years ( excel is beyond me) as @Dark Knight seems to be swamped with his business (and good luck to him  )
  • If someone ( I know you sort of mentioned it before, Chris,) wants to take up the baton and run it, and inject a little life / different perspective into it, that's fine, if *you* start the threads, you will be able to edit them, there will be some stuff *you* won't be able to do though, but thats OK just shout, I won't be far away ...
  • I'm always open to suggestions & I do feel though that it is starting to die on its feet though :(

It's a tricky one, I don't have a real answer to. I'm happy to carry on as is, I can't see the point of a no need to comment plan. Commenting is part of the challenge, learning process. But what ever is decided I'll go along with :)
