Yes
today is the day all the VED changes occur and the £40k car buying surcharge.

Just like car repairs if you can't afford it don't buy it.
Not all car buyers will get clobbered. If I replaced my current car with the latest model it will be £60 a year cheaper from year 2.

Interesting that VW are reducing the price of the Golf Gif by almost £3.5k and upping the spec. You can spec a gti to over 40k. Yet you can buy a fully specced Focus RS for about 38k.

Absolutely outrageous, both of them price wise! Are they gold plated?

Fairly sure if the cost of the electric car is over £40k, it will still be taxed after year 1.

For what the Focus RS is capable of, it's a bargain. They seem to have zero depreciation at the moment too. As for the Golf, like all VW's it is overpriced.

Our pre 2001 registered motor is 150 quid, think that might be a fiver more than the current price

Fractionally faster at the top end, fractionally faster to 62 than mine, I'll grant you, however, it'll ( they'll both) lose a lot more driving out the showroom than mine cost.
They are still way over priced tin cans.

some cracking prereg deals about
wow!

2nd hand Focus RS's are selling for new car money.

Yes, it's nuts. I was looking at one a couple of months ago, and I was actually able to buy a new one for £2K less than a used one in the same showroom... yes I had to wait 2 months for delivery but I would have been fine with that. I didn't buy either in the end as following the test drive I was really disappointed with the performance.

You could have added the Mountune M380 engine upgrade for just over £1k and the warranty wouldn't have been affected.

All I can say is some people have more money than sense in that case !

There's loads of them about, they drive Mercedes, BMW's, Audi's, VW's.
Don't know, not many of them are willing to pay new car price for a used car, bonkers, it's not like the rs is a rare collecters model

No but they are willing to pay way over the top for a new car just because it's "Prestigious". Mk1 and Mk2 Focus RS's are increasing in value. All Ford RS's become collectors models, some more than others.

I bought one because it was what I wanted. I couldn't care less what anyone else thinks. Why do you buy the type of cameras you use? I'm guessing you use some Chinese copy.

I really don't understand why people feel the need to comment on how people spend their money, we all like different things and have our own reasons for buying what we want.

Made in Japan actually and they work well for what I want / need and to top it all I didn't buy them, they were 25yr, 30yr and 35yr long service gifts from work. Another two years and I'll probably get another. (y)

No Ford bias, of course. :-)

None at all it's fact, I get to see what goes into other more expensive makes of cars and the cost difference just isn't there. We have an engine in development at the moment, there is a whirring noise from a gear wheel they are currently trying to eliminate by re-engineering a part. BMW's solution to a similar problem is just slap more sound insulation on the engine and in the engine bay, yet they will have you pay thousands more for a "quiet" car.

Sorry.
Not buying that you have no Ford bias whatsoever. :-)

Buy what you like ;), I see what goes into cars, how well they are actually made, how poor the pressings are on premium brands that with over 30yrs of experience in vehicle press tooling, their workmanship is really not acceptable. Yet people are prepared to pay well over the odds for it. For sheer value for money there isn't a new car that comes close to the £31k base price for a Focus RS nor the circa £38k for a fully specced RS.

I beg to differ, I thought it was slow and totally uninspiring, I was looking to trade down and buy one, as I had always fancied one, but wanted an AWD or RWD if offered. I was completely underwhelmed, thanks for graciously allowing me to buy what I like, I will :)

And I'm willing to bet it's going to cost considerably more or less well specced.

It did cost more yes, but it was well worth it, the value of anything is only what someone is prepared to pay, there are far, far better cars than mine, but I'm not prepared to pay the extra money for something which I don't consider worth it. Some other people are happy to do that, and they are welcome to if that is their choice. I would never criticise someones choice, because that is theirs, if you like the RS, well good for you, I was majorly disappointed, to the point I prefer my 2 brothers cars (Golf R and Audi S3) both of which are too easy to drive fast and have no challenge in them. For some people that is what they want, again, if that's what floats your boat that's great. I have to say that chasing a 911 turbo S over the North Yorkshire moors yesterday I could have kept up easier in either of those 2 cars, or the RS, BUT, and here is the big BUT for me, that wouldn't have required any driving skill from me, just the talent of the car.

Anyway, I'll leave this now, and agree to disagree :)

Be interested what you think about Japanese cars especially Toyota my current car and the previous one was a Toyota
I agree with you about BMW

And it still wont be faster around the TG track or the Ring than a 29k civic....lol

Sorry, I know you work for Ford etc but as a 'normal' car user I can't really agree with this.
From the driver's/passengers seats the build quality of a Ford just does not compare to the last 2 Audi's I've had (got a Nissan at the moment but will be changing in summer).
For full disclosure, my first car was a Ford Escort Mk1, and it's the only Ford I have owned but I have been in a lot of the sporty models, RS Turbo's included. I have had 3 Audi's (one for over 10 years) a few Honda's, Toyota, Nissan and even a Mini GT back in the day. A few of my friends currently have 2-5 year old Fords so I do have recent experience of the brand and in my opinion they do not compare with most of the German makes, sorry.

As part of your job you may well have far more detailed information regarding build processes/costs but from a consumer point of view it's the end product that most make their decisions on not the back end process.

Each to their own though, if you or anyone else wants a Focus RS, new or used then great, your choice. Personally, if I was in the market for a 35-40k sporty car I wouldn't be considering a fwd hatch no matter who made it.

Add another 4k to your fully specced RS and get a new 718 (Cayman) or 2k more than that for a Boxster.

Even though I don't like the fact Porsche have gone over to a four pot on the non-911 models, I know what I'd choose, and I can vouch for the build quality from 13 years of ownership.

Cough - Mustang ;) :D

Shame about the recent crash test though.
