Three Legged Thing

Wow. I paid £180 for that Adrian (2nd gen) 8 months ago.
It's an ok tripod, especially at that price. Only used it a few times though.
The bag it comes in is not good for travel protography, solid tube type thing what takes up half your suitcase (replaced with a cheap jessops variety). One of the feet also fell off on my first outing (oh so that's why all my Blackpool shots took ages to set up) and they never had any others in stock so I had to fork out 30 quid on a full spike feet set.
And it's not completely wobble free, even when everything is tightened up.

Did I just put anyone off?

Just a little! :)

Thanks for sharing your experiences though :)

I just got off the phone to 3leggedthings.com

They are a very nice team there and spent ages giving me advice about their products as well as explaining the process of how they come to the market etc.

I think I will definitely be ordering from them because I doubt many other tripod companies have this much knowledge of their own products and this level of service.

Will definitely update fellow members and write a review about my stickers :D

No ,click the link, it is for the ballhead only.If the tripod is the same quality as the ballhead, then you`ll be ok.But the review above does not inspire confidence, but that could well have been a one off. I would imagine that a lot of tripods are made in China and rebadged. Not saying these are,but they could be.

I use a benro tripod.....I would always say try a tripod in a shop before you buy or try somebody elses, they are a personal type thing and get the best you can afford, works out cheaper in the long run.

Aah I see, so you paid £40 for the head last year? Or was it £129 then?

You see most tripods at the £100 price point (Like the carbon limited-edition ones in my other thread) are designed as £100 tripods, where as these seem to be genuinely reduced.

£40 quid for the head.

Tripods........minefield........:D

I bought cheap twice before spending £300 on one. The cost of the two cheaper ones was £260, they did not do what I wanted, since buying the Benro, i`m not even tempted to look at other tripods.

I have never had the TLT tripod so cannot give an opinion either way.

Can you get one, see if it suits or not,if not return it?

Their site quotes 30 day return if not happy and not soiled but it is always so much messing returning products I feel!

I'm glad you've found something you love, its a nice feeling :D

I'm shocked you say it was £40 last year aswell.

The only advice that I give regarding tripods is this:

Weigh your kit, think about what you photograph now and what you may photograph in the future. If your main camera and lens weighs 5kgs, get a 10 kg tripod, if you can afford it,get a 15 or 20.You may get into wildlife or sports and get the heavier lenses, your little 10 kg won`t hold a long lens securely. So buy good quality and buy once.

Get the best you can afford. Don`t forget, the bigger tripods are heavy and longer than normal ones. I don`t like four section legs, but they fold down smaller. Think about what your requirements are now and could be in the future.

Thanks that is good advice and well received.

I initially was going lightweight but I realised I really wanted compact more than lightweight.

I also quickly realised the 3KG load capacity of the Giottos wasn't enough for my needs despite my setup being under 3KG

Hardest choice is the colour!

Made increasingly easier by the fact that when you click on the blue one it's out of stock! And the black one is in stock!

So I hope you were leaning towards a black one!!

I also bought a ball head from them last year in there sale for £40 and it's a quality piece of kit!! Really can't fault it!

If i`m reading it correctly, the ball head comes with the tripod and the whole lot is reduced by £129, gotta to be worth a punt?

It can always go back, if that means a bit of faffing about, so what.

Grab your nuts and go for it..............:D

They may have sold out by the time you decide.........

I ordered it already! :D

I just was having second thoughts about the black but I think I prefer the black. The blue looks nice but the black is just classier! :D

Why is life so hard haha.

Let us know what it is like when you get please.

Any reviews??

Only had mine since Christmas and have only used it as a monopod;did have an issue with a sticky leg section but I think it was my cack-handedness,otherwise ok.
Oh and mine was bought from the classifieds although it had not been used.

otherwise ok.

Just ok?

Still waiting for mine, they had some issues with stock and their courier but have made it up to me apparently! Great service so far, really impressed with the brand so far.

I ordered mind on Christmas Eve. Was supposed to be delivered on Friday (had a txt message from interlink) but nothing turned up. Seems they have had some sort of courier issue.

Did email them but heard nothing back.

Yes. They had some problems with their courier not collecting despite 3LT hanging around in the office for them.

Theres a few people in your position. I contacted them via phone and they said they had a massive backlog of emails from the huge response to the sale!

Hopefully mine will land on Monday too ;)

Maybe they'll throw in a free t shirt for the delay! :)

Well I didn't want to be too gushing after just using the mono-pod section:lol:
Used the tripod itself today taking some pics of the cat in low light and worked well:thumbs:.Got to give them a ring in the new year as I seem to have lost a grub screw(probably when I was checking it out before Christmas).

Couldn't agree more.

Every time I have called they have answered (each time one of the people who are profiled on the site), been extremely helpful both pre-sale and after-sale.

I collected mine today... and unravelling a "Brian" was a extra bonus!
Haven't tested it out yet, but it seems extremely light, and sturdy at a first glance. Very well made, and a v nice finish.
Have to say they are a v helpful and and committed company.
Cant wait to try it out!

Hi, interested in this could anyone tell me if it will fit onto a Manfrotto monopod I would have emailed them but I am having a problem sending emails at the moment

Hi

All the ball heads I've had including two from 3LT have a 3/8" thread.

The Manfrotto monopod I have has a combined 3/8" and 1/4" thread, so I think a 3LT ball head should fit. If not you can get a 1/4" to 3/8" bush off Fleabay for very little.

Regards

Chris

There website gone ? Just went to get one and appears to be down

Hi

Both 3LT and Studio flash (for Elemental - part of the same group I think) go to default pages for me.

I'd guess it is some "hoo-haa" with hosting fees and the New Year.

Any recomendations for a sturdy tripod from this range.
I am wanting one for long exposures, so as good as it is I need something a bit more solid than my current Manfrotto 190XPROB.
Also I'm 6'4" so one with a decent height would be good but I'm more concerned with stability than height as I can always bend my back.

going to 3LT facilities later today to buy Adrian and their gen 2 AH1. they are about 30min down the road from me.

Anyone got anything they'd like to ask or me to check out?

I did send them an e-mail(and I called them) about a missing grub-screw off the top plate from my Adrian tripod;haven't had a reply or a replacement turn up yet although I was allowing a bit of time for the post.

Brian is the carbon fibre version of Adrian, the difference is that the centre column of Brian has 3 sections where as Adrian's is fixed. This (in my view) means that Adrian's centre column will technically be more sturdy. However Adrian goes to a height of around 1.7m where as Brian is able to extend to 2 metres if the 3 centre columns are also extended.

No, thanks for asking :D
