Tbh Tony its more a case of you don't seem to be able to decide what you want or need so keep posting for advice and then not necessarily listening:
Last month, you were
talking about moving to a D300 because the "400D doesn't have quick enough focusing and and has alot of shutter lag."
Then a couple of weeks later you
ask about if you should buy a 70-200mm f/4 L
You then
asked if you should buy a battery grip or a 70-200m and then proceeded to ignore all the advice given and eventually it turned out you just wanted a new battery so the camera lasted all day.
Now, this is fair enough but what you will find is that if you keep posting these same questions over and over then people will stop answering you. I know its hard to decide what to get, but you need to sit down and take stock of your current gear, what you take pictures of and what exactly is holding you back - only then will you know what you want. Once you are at that stage, use google, get a list of options, research them, narrow it down, then when you are down to a final decision, that is the best time to ask for advice.
Not having a go, just trying to be helpful.
