I got a call from Eileens phone earlier from a stranger.......saying Eileen had fallen off her bike, so off I went to pick her up she has a nasty gravel rash down her face and yes she had her helmet on but they only protect the top of the head, also she is very sore all over with cuts and bruises and a stiff elbow...never got a proper chance to thank the young lady who stopped to help her as she was on her way home from work.
So I put the top down in the rain so I could get her bike in the car .... what a sight we mus have been ....... convertible with the top down in the rain, anyway say hi to her as it will cheer her up a bit:thumbs:

I cringed as I read this. Poor thing, hope she gets better soon.

Kind regards

Sarah

Hope Eileens well and recovering from her incident. I used to live in Oxford and unfortunatly had to stop and help a few shocked souls so have seen it before...

Good exceuse for a couple of drinks tonight and hope your doing the gentlemanly thing ie. topping the glass up and ordering the takeaway :D

Hope you're feeling better soon Eileen. Chances are that you'll be a bit stiff tomorrow though.
You take care.

Kev.

Firstly Pete you are a wussy!
I always use to drive my drop head with the top down, even in the rain,
you hardly get wet at all unless its ****ing down and you have to stop at lights
or something :D

Secondly Eileen, I hope you are OK, but milk it for all its worth,
Get Pete running round with the tea and sympathy.
But get well soon, of course

I'm lying on couch nursing my cuts and bruises and my face is more hot than anything .it was numb up till 1 hour ago.Pete's made a pad and put in on my face. Its my arm that hurts the most, see what i'm like in morning :'(
I would always tell people to where helmets now as it was my head that hit pavement first and its got a few grazes on it so it protected me /

Best wishes for a speedy recovery. Your GP may advise a tetanus jab.

Thanks everybody for you thoughts :)
.Photon I might just go see doctor tomorrow see how best to treat my face as ive read conflicting stories on net as how to treat graze wounds.

BEST WISHES !!

hope you are on the mend soon and totally agree withthe milking it bit!

get well soon and take it easy after you have been to see the Doc.

Only just spotted this. You have had quite a few tumbles from your bike, I think it's time you put the training wheels back on. Get well soon.

Sorry to read about this Eileen. Get yourself checked out by the Doctor and then try and have a good rest.

All the best Eileen, it usually takes a day or two for the full stiffness to set in.

Here's wishing you a full and speedy recovery.

Oh and make the most of pete waiting on you hand and foot, I'm sure you can wangle a few weeks of housework out of him

Wounds heal and chicks dig scars...it's what cycling's all about...lol

hello peeps
been to docs, got a *******ing for not going to A&E last night, she thought maybe my cheek was broke but until the swelling goes down ,don't know ..she cant understand why I have no pain either but have just got to keep an eye on it.I've got a right shiner too..my elbow she thinks is sprained so gotta put a support bandage on it
Just gotta watch out headaches etc
so i'm just sitting on couch licking my wounds :(

Ouch :shake:

Sorry to hear about your predicament; and do keep a good eye on your cheek.

Hope it all heals well, without any more issues.

As has been said, capitalise on your misfortune and get Mr. DM to spoil you rotten :p

I got home from work today and the swelling has come along with a nasty looking black eye, which along with the gravel rash looks pretty nasty.....I even did the shopping today.......... ........looks like shes done a couple of rounds with Bruno

Poor lass, that looks quite sore.

It does look sore Frac but she hasnt moaned about it once, she is just her normal bubbly self

I was reading this thread wondering how a tog could have missed the opportunity to get pics!

looks like a nasty case of gravel rash

GWS

The only damage we can see on the helmet but its going to Bell for a check as advised on the paperwork and a replacement bought if needed

thank goodness no worse - good helmet = good protection

best wishes !!

I agree, a good helmet is a must and this one took the thump away from the head so could hav possibly saved her from a serious head injury or even much worse

ouch that does look like a classic case of gravel rash, All the best Eileen

As you say Pete, a good helmet is must, I'd much rather spend £40-50 on a replacement helmet than not be in a position to have the chance!

Eileen is on the Bell website and they want the helmet back for tests to see where it took the impact and they are sending her a new Velo for a cost of £17 which isnt bad considering we paid £59 for the original helmet ...... now thats good service by Bell

 good on Bell, that seems like good service to me.

Bit of grit still embedded in her ear-lobe...

Oh Eileen - that looks so horribly painful.:( Make sure it doesn't get infected.
