Thanks for the link to the sign up page. I'm not really exposed enough to be suitable, but I've signed up anyway & if I get called then all the better.

I maybe missing something but what you have posted is not bad IMO.

His wife was ill, now vomiting is not one of the symptoms of Covis and he said she did not have cough/fever which are the main ones. It could have been simply food poisoning or a bug, especially as after being sick she felt better. Based on what you have written I would have done the same as she seems to not have had covid symptoms.

Whether or not his wife had coronavirus Dominic should have followed the guidance below as both Boris and Matt who he admitted to working in close contact with had been confirmed as having coronavirus.

27 March
Downing Street announces that Boris Johnson and the health secretary, Matt Hancock, have tested positive for coronavirus. Soon afterwards Cummings is seen running along Downing Street. His wife, Mary Wakefield, later wrote that Cummings “did rush home to look after me” when she developed symptoms, but she did not specify when this was.

One of our employees has been in direct contact with someone who has a confirmed case of the coronavirus – what should we do?
The employee should be advised to call NHS 111 for advice. They will probably be advised to self-isolate for 14 days even if they are displaying no symptoms. If they subsequently become unwell, they should contact NHS 111 for reassessment, and they may be tested for the virus. If the test result is negative, the employee will be advised to remain in self-isolation until 14 days has passed. However, you won’t need to take any special measures.

Michael Gove has stated the only reason he snorted coccaine was to test if his nostrils were working OK.

Me too, but apparently many of those who did flout the rules yesterday were quick to point a finger at Cummings pretty much saying if he can then so can we!
Well why am I not surprised.

Some maybe, but they were fined. The thing is that his household was symptomatic. Going against distancing is one thing, but when you are symptomatic its far worse.
Who have? There's people near me that have had barbecues, people in my local supermarkets being d****, all those people in parks and yesterday on beaches. I haven't heard that they've been fined?

There must now be millions of people who have disregarded the legislation & guidelines. Disregard started from the minute that the legislation was enacted. Only a comparatively minute number have been fined. The punishment or the fear of being caught is not remotely a deterrent.
People who do all sorts of wrong often try to justify their action by claiming that they were inspired to do wrong because someone else did it. A pathetic excuse that flows from the mouths of liars.

A scientist ?? :wideyed: (wide eyed). I've read several posts by LLP and I'm truly taken aback, dumbfounded. That's astonishing. No appropriate emoji available for shock.

Nearly everybody on TP is a scientist John, experts in visual science* at least :). A friend of mine likes to call me a “word scientist” :) ... can’t think why, I’m sure he doesn’t mean pedant ... I think :).

The stupidest virus is cleverer than the cleverest virologist (George Klein - virologist)

This is quite a frightening read:-
https://www.rse.org.uk/cms/files/events/reports/2009-2010/viruses.pdf

There is about 4 pages of text written in a form that us unqualified "scientists" can follow. I expect it will be child's play to Toni & Retune.

' a government adviser had since stated that there was no "formal review" of lockdown fines'.
Who are these people, I'd like names instead of some snitching unnamed p****.

Me?

I thought he returned to work when they were all recovering?

Anyway. I've said what I wanted to and although you don't not agree I'd rather urge a little more understanding and compassion and even forgiveness than be a part of the crowd condemning and calling for sackings. As I said, I may have done the same. I'm not going to change any minds so with that I'll bow out.

would this be the understanding and compassion we’ve all being desperate to display but couldn’t? When my friend died from Covid (& I know I’m not the only member here) his wife had to continue to self isolate for a further 7 days. Can you imagine how difficult it was not to be able and go and comfort her? He’s just laughed in the face of everyone who’s suffered or made sacrifices through this

There are conventions about describing various sources of news. I‘m not sure what “government adviser” means but it sounds like an official source (ie a civil servant) and his/her name would not be very helpful.

I would like to get some advice on purchasing PPE for my wife and me, we are both in the high-risk category and as such have only been out twice during the lockdown and then only for a car ride.
We would like to start going out on our scooters away from the crowded areas,i understand most face masks will offer us very little protection but i think we would feel better wearing one, at least we would feel we are doing our bit to protect others.
We are thinking of getting full-face visors and wearing disposable gloves.

Anyone got any links to the best places to buy these from and recommendations as to the specifications we should be looking for.

Thanks

Robert Jenrick on BBC this morning " he's [Cummings] done nothing wrong, he did everything within the rules....it's time to move on" says the guy that also broke lockdown rules, who clearly doesn't want himself, the PM's boss and his party to be scrutinised.

Is the Cummings saga nothing short of a smoke screen? Ok, there's nothing quite like a good 'ole conspiracy theory, but take 5 minutes and have a read of this:

https://truepublica.org.uk/united-k...-a-cover-story-obscuring-something-far-darker
I don’t think it’s correct to say the Cummings saga is a smokescreen but the rest of it is broadly accurate. It’s the same sort of thing that is happening in the US, Trump is making lots of changes to federal regulations etc which are going largely unnoticed behind his Twitter storms. Cummings is on record to favour “chaos” to bring about “reforms” I believe :(.

No idea about masks etc (except there are lots of videos on homemade ones) but I’ve always bought gloves from Amazon:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B008NIRXRY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

but I see those are “currently unavailable”. I’m not sure the usual disposable gloves would stand up to scooter riding/extended use, they tear fairly easil :(.

An N95 mask or a P3 half mask will do you. Unless you're going to go up close to people that are coughing you won't need a visor.

And unless you're going to change gloves every time you need to touch your face or whatever, then you're much better off just washing your hands.

I've emailed my MP, just to confirm that if either me or my wife get ill, are worried about childcare locally simply because we didn't even try to make any arrangements. It's fine for us to drive the 260 miles to my parents in the North East.

Wonder if she'll reply.

I agree with this I take out hand sanitiser with me, partially because I hate some of the stuff the use in the shops
and it is far more useful if you are planning a picnic or anything whilst you are out

This ^^^

My wife had to pop into B&M the other day, I waited in the car. I saw quite a few people going in and out pushing trollies and wearing gloves. Utterly pointless as they'll no doubt touched stock and shelves and then touched other things spreading germs all over the place. the only way to use gloves effectively is to change them every time you've touched anything.

To borrow a phrase, someone knows where the bodies are buried.

Do any of the Tory supporters on here believe Cummings story for the Barnard Castle trip?

This really bugs me - I see people round shops buying stuff in gloves and, if there are germs there, will no be on the tin of beans etc... you see them on a mobile which they probably dont wipe!!! Using PPE badly is more dangerous than using nothing for the general public

He was appalling. He could hardly wait to get in, "we must concentrate on.....".

I wanted Louise Michin to follow his comment about Dominic Cummings by saying, "I understand that you have now said any parent who has symptoms of Covid19 and has concerns about child care if they become ill can now travel anywhere in England to be closer to child care should they need it", and leave him to deny it.

Given that Laura Kuenssberg and others political commentators have indicated a number of ministers have said, privately, they want Cummings to go, are there any ministers (apart the Scottish one who resigned) who have a spine? Or is the suggestion that some ministers want Cummings to go another allegation that Boris would call, "palpably false'?

They have been wanting to privatise the civil service for years looks like they are doing it now under cover of the virus
Very worrying that they are getting away with it

In normal times I use rubber gloves all the time when at the farm, partly to keep my hands clean but mainly for winter warmth (very thin but they make a huge difference, and act as a wetsuit when handling water. They do tear easily but as long as I wear the "extra large" ones - one size above my normal - I get reasonable use out of them.

At my local Asda, which I now visit once every two weeks, I put gloves on in my car when I arrive, put on my face mask and do my shop. Both are then discarded as soon as I've put my shopping into the car. In my view these precautions are worthwhile, especially as there is zero enforcement of social distancing once I'm inside the store, with a lot of people ignoring the one way system.

It seems to me that many if not most of the other shoppers seem to think that the risk is now over and, perhaps because most of them are in a low risk category, they are endangering those of us who are in a high risk demographic, so I feel that any extra precautions that I can take are worthwhile. Also, I've been to a few east asian countries where wearing facemasks is normal all the time, so I don't feel that it's weird to do so - not that I care what other people think anyway.
