If folk really are that upset with DC, instead of moaning on here WRITE to your MP stating how upset you are. Then they can sack him if enough folk moan then move on to someone else, or sack EVERY ONE who messed up and sit back and watch many many many many 1000s die (y)

They stayed at a house near his parents, not in the same house and it is going to be fairly difficult to have expected to find someone to provide childcare for them at home, regardless of how much he earns or was willing to pay. Would you have gone into a house to work for 14 or more days, knowing someone in the house had symptoms?

I still believe that he should not have done it don’t want to argue about the details especially as it turns out he also went out somewhere different in public as well

Quite clear that he did definitely break the rules. They're either assuming we're all too thick to realise they're lying to us when they tell us it was allowed. Or they just don't care that we know the rules don't apply to them.

So there is no news apparently, so the media, who are the scum of the earth imho, are back on hanging people, the story about DC and their anonymous sources is a joke, and now the papers are analysing the governments response to the virus, of course with all the current data !, So it looks like it is back to the total and utterly embarrassing garbage political nonsense and inacurate media coverage we are used to.

The editor who spent weeks making the DC story has said its not political its about how the public see a figure apparently breaking the rules, well the public wouldn't know you stupid cow, YOU told them......... its like dealing with primary school children.

People around the world are DYING, not just from covid, the war zones and conflict areas haven't stopped, the planet is still spinning. And I have seen at least one hour of coverage this morning on TV about how one man went to isolate with his family !

Correct. It doesn't mention it under the allowable reasons. And expressly forbids traveling to second properties to stay in isolation in.

It also ends with "Leaving your home - the place you live - to stay at another home is not allowed."

Did you actually read the guidance page? Or does your brain automatically filter words out that show you're wrong?

I have seen reports that the virus in Europe is no longer the same as that in China etc. If that is true, that could be a factor.
But aside from all that, there is no guarantee that even if we had reacted a fortnight earlier, that tens of thousands of lives wouldn't have been lost, that can only ever be an assumption.

Some valid point but Germany have tested far more than we have so will have more confirmed cases, but we are not making a fair comparison. Also, there was evidence early on that for some reason it was affecting younger people in Germany than in the uk which is one factor why deaths are lower.

It seems to me that we're in a much worse position at this point than we should be. That in turn appears to be because British politics have been taken over by fanatics and thugs. This quote from a review of Jonathan Sumption's book Trials of the State sums up where we now are and explains much of how we got here...

Were you not one of the several pro tory ostriches on here telling everyone that there should be no analysis until we pass the peak of the crisis " there's time for that, etc" So, now there is you're still not happy. As for dealing with primary school kids, I mean, your pro tory / pro cummings / butter wouldn't melt ostrich attitude reminds me of a playground "it's my football so I say who plays". :cautious::cautious::cautious:

Therein lies the underlying motives of the slimy weasels in the Westminster bubble. They sneak about hoping to stumble across some dirt on people they have a grudge against then attempt to turn it into a crusade under the guise of acting in the public interest. Next thing that happens is that the perverse press etc. indulge in a feeding frenzy and swallow a grossly disproportionate amount of time that should be used on critically important problems.
There is a seriously high death rate in English care homes and an even higher death rate in Scottish care homes. That should be attracting a massive outcry from all these bumdusters in Westminster and Holyrood and not the tripe that is filling the news 24/7.
BTW, a short time ago I heard Andrew Castle on LBC refer to the large number reporters and photographers at Cumming's house there to ask questions related to his alleged failure to adhere to the social distancing guidelines. Were these people 2 metres apart ............ have a guess !

Coming into this thread is like being a character in 'Life on Mars' - I feel I have gone back 50 years to my primary school days with the 'Torry Haters' snitching about little Jimmy having a wee behind the tree - how utterly pathetic!

It is because there is no news so media scum are searching hard for stories that don't exist.

My Doctor smokes loads - should I change Doctor, should all health care proffesionals be banned from smoking? How rediculous that would be; they can still give very good advice.

So a married man travels to visit his familly whilst his wife has an ilness that could kill her - mmmmmmmmmm - If he did then it would be the same thing most married men would do.

Then there is the debacle of the earlier lockdown - modelled by a climate scientist modeller - you couldn't make it up! He would be better looking at his woefully inaccurate models of the climate!

We haven't got any method of enforcing a lockdown in the UK, so any comparrison with other Countries is a complete waste of time.

Lets grow up and listen to the members (e.g @myotis , @ancient_mariner , @cambsno etc) who contribute some really good info regarding the virus not the anti-tory bitching this has decended into for the last several pages.

Yes I did read it. No my brain didn't filter out words that show I am wrong. I used the bits that prove to be right, it is all down to interpretation.

You really do need to get a life or at best, find a hobby.

And the >100-fold lower per capita deaths in South Korea? Maybe it's the kimchi or those Samsung phones hoovering up the 5G signal, but all the smart money is on their early and aggressive campaign of 'Tetris' (testing, tracing and isolation).

Numbers of infections are harder to compare than numbers of deaths, as we don't even attempt to count most community cases. The real numbers are probably at least 10-fold higher than the reported numbers.

There's really no convincing evidence of different strains of the virus with increased virulence (capacity to cause disease) or transmissibity (ability to spread). Several papers have made dubious claims about this that were picked up by the media, but most virologists aren't convinced.
 
Question, if Cummings and his wife both work what do they do in ’normal times’ for child care. Wasn’t that ‘emergency option’ available ?
 
My mum in law was taken into hospital this week with her parkinson's disease. Not allowed any visitors at all, it's really s***. My 77 year old father in law is now having to look after himself at home, and despite him being the well one, he really could still do with a hand.

But we're not Dominic. So we just have to lump it and deal with it without any support, or even being allowed to go into his home to help with the washing etc.
 
Watching the Marr show this morning with Grant Shapps being interviewed:-

He did not look that comfortable fielding & answering DC related questions.

He repeatedly read from his notes and in one answer read a more detailed document about the lockdown instructions that I could hear/'see' a more nuanced interpretation that slightly addressed Cummings actions.

Now, at the press conferences the lockdown instructions were never nuanced in that more comprehensive manner. So it seems that maybe Cummings was within "an" interpretation of the lockdown instructions......but not really in the spirit of them, based on the way everyone else is and was expected to behave.

I repeat my earlier comment that because IMO he was not acting in the spirit of it ~ "do as I say, not as I do...." :(

If he requires care, then the rules allow you to visit.
