Unbelievably not everyone has access to online shopping .... or any slots available anytime soon.

Ok, I was only answering that it's an option? My father in laws online shopping used to be ordered from over 100 miles away by the wife and delivered to him.

Knew it, but do you really think any PM would turn the army on its own citizens?
We are in the UK, not Afghanistan or Iraq
You are living in cloud cuckoo land, it's not a computer game.

Actually I think this is exactly on the cards. All we need is a nice big riot and people will be pulled and pushed all the way to the limit to get there. I really want out of this hellhole. Maybe I'll stop paying f*****g rent and all the bills, and then leave as soon as a I can. Then what?!

I have been looking through Facebook for a couple of hours and the majority of people can’t work out whether or not it applies to them or not ,various trades and industries need clarification . To me it seems like a semi lockdown to many different ways to interpret it . Sorry boris but you have not delivered this in strong enough terms for most people to understand clearly .

I think the panic/greedy/idiot/tosser shopping has a secondary effect.
Because shops are limiting (understandably) what people can buy , instead of doing a weekly shop you have to pop out 2 or 3 times. Which is exactly what we don't want. This makes sensible shopping and supply chain management a key tool in stopping the spread. (In my view anyway)

Correct. Or, when you go what you need isn’t there. The other day the big Tesco nearby had no potatoes, fairly basic staple.

That said stocks are ok, they even had some own brand Pasta in today. Although very few sliced loaves. Lidl though had very good stocks

Why are you here at all if you loathe my country so much? Just curious ...

It seems quite un-ambiguous to me. Does each individual require BJ to ask them individually? Basically everything except essential services stop tonight, those being key workers already having been identified.

Syria or Iraq are warm this time of year :beer:

It was a fair suggestion but Sainsbury’s, Morrison’s Waitrose, Tesco are all seized up at present.

And how do you think that would work now for a new sign up?

I have no idea, i was making a genuine suggestion and not actually trying to be snippy to be honest, but the undercurrent in this thread does seem to make everyone automatically assume every comment needs to be sniped at for some reason? :cautious:

:sorry:

Oh don’t go, we‘ll miss your sunny disposition :).

I fear it will get worse before it gets better, with millions more at home, no more staff restaurants in the workplace, no cafes, restaurants and fast food outlets.

Very good question. Maybe ask your globalist pal Boris. I would even prefer Putin at this point. I'm not sure I've got a viable exit strategy at this very moment; that is the real problem

I'm sure I can still troll you on TP :)

The supreme commander Borisov says it will be good to teach you proper discipline

So, if you don’t work in essential services, you don’t go to work tomorrow?

Tonypandy 1910.

Then Home Secretary Winston Churchill's decision to allow the British Army to be sent to the area to reinforce the police shortly after 8 November riot caused much ill feeling towards him in South Wales.

Ok - he wasn't PM when it happened, but the British government turned British troops on British citizens before, there is precedent.

I've got a word. t***.
I would fine him 10k per second. Minimum charge- 8 hour working day.

I think bring back public executions would be more effective. Well, it would have to be televised executions on this occasion. :)

About half hour after last night's announcement I recieved this email from our allotment manager.

As the allotment is an open space, we shall be allowed to exercise once a day, singly or with a family member and by keeping our 2-3 metres distance we shall be ok. I have not had any information from the Parish Council, but being aware we shall be safe.

Now part of me is thinking that being able to grow our own food, especially while shelves are bare and shops pose the greatest risk of coming into close contact with other people, is actually a good idea. I can spend a whole day there without getting closer than 20m of anyone else, let alone 2m.

However classifying it as exercise seems to be a bit of a stretch to me so is it really allowed?

Also what happens if restrictions become even tighter and I can't get down there? That will be a lot of produce gone to waste. We are seriously considering ripping out the plants from our flower beds at home and growing what we can there, but it would only allow a very small amount.

How long do you think your vegetables etc will last once folks hear about the allotments?

Here's something that I hadn't considered until reading a local news item this morning.....a drug addict attempted to run down Gendarmes at a checkpoint whilst out trying to locate his next fix (he's now incarcerated).

With the suspension of flights, and movement in general, the 'mules' won't be arriving and supplies will inevitably run down in the coming weeks. I just wonder what the are implications for society when addicts start to suffer withdrawl effects. I appreciate that the supply network is very well organised but I'm sure that the current situation is something that will tax their resources.

So a lockdown, but a woolly one.

All shops closed that sell non-essential goods. But what about services, is the garage I take my car to still open this week?
I have read that garages are listed under businesses allowed to remain open

So, if you don’t work in essential services, you don’t go to work tomorrow?

That's not what he said at all...

If you can do your work while practicing social distancing, and you don't work in a non essential *shop* then you can go to work as normal.

They're similarly exempt in France but most have closed voluntarily (to protect staff and some have a minimal service to keep the vehicles of essential workers and businesses on the move.

Dont apologise on here mate. I've "met" our Ricardo before. His attitude needs no further explanation than this thread displays. NOBODY with any degree of sanity would hinder you caring for your mum. Shes a lucky Lady.
I thought he was quite restrained, he never wangled racism or The Daily Fail into it once. ;)

Reading news from Spain (in France)......

The Spanish Army arrived to disinfect a care home for the elderley and found the residents in bed, some dead and the staff gone.....deserted them.

What a world we live in.

It's pretty secure. I am in a semi-rural area and the site is gated and only key holders can gain access.
If things descend into anarchy we may see people ram raiding allotments, but I would hope that I would have harvested my spuds before we get to that point.

A street party held from the confines of peoples individual homes?

Not looking for a loop hole but the PM says you can go out once for exercise Now I go for a walk with my camera Birding but do drive there it's an isolated place and I rarely see anyone it's a Marsh so no one would come near me surly this is ok
We went into lock down last week so I do take this seriously .
Rob.
We are still restricted to "essential travel" only.

Any travel by car, even if you intend maintaining social distancing, still adds to the risks of spreading the virus. Albeit a small addition. But this virus is contagious enough to warrant, where possible, avoiding even the smallest risks.

The measures announced by the PM last night unfortunately needed doing as some appear unable to understand the real and potential seriousness of coronavirus.

Policing them will be very difficult but I hope the announcement and the possible threat of police action will reduce the numbers on the streets.

I would have liked the PM to have given a list of essential services and said something like, "If you do not work in jobs on this list then you must not go to work and your employer must not attempt to require you to do so", but also that they will review the list as necessary.

I don't know why it is still OK to go and get takeaway food. Is the provison of takeaway food essential? Are there that many people who eat only takeaways?

Dave

Some people on my social media feed, who are one man Ltd companies, pay themselves minimum wage and then top up with dividends to reduce overall tax and NI burden. Are now saying it's unfair and they should be treated as self employed if self employed are going to get 80% of their earnings as help.

I suppose they'll all be happy to back pay the additional tax and NI too?
