Sent home from my new job this morning, self isolation for 7 days as my daughter has been sent home from school with a cough, temperature and a sore throat. My wife has also been sent home from work (hygene tech in a dentist) for 7 days isolation.
Oh man, hope she's ok. I know they say kids fair reasonably well with this but if it was my grand daughter...well I would be worried.

Hoping its nothing serious, and you're soon over it.

From looking at the symptoms I'm 99% sure it is a mild case of the virus. I don't feel too unwell other than the fever though, the cough is just irritating.

We're in good health, so I'm sure it'll pass quick enough and timing wise this is probably the best way.

The govt have got my back as a self employed person though, I can claim a massive £73 a week while I can't work.

Made appointment online for my dog to see vet, got a phone call asking about virus contacts, eventually they gratefully accepted my offer of settling for a repeat prescription (which they turned down last time) so expecting a much smaller bill :).

thanks fella, like Andy, she is ill but not overly so, we will just have to keep a close eye on her.

Listening to Sky news, they are saying this s*** could go on for a year! I am genuinely worried, it's like a science fiction film.

My wife has her cancer op on thursday. We've been locked down for over a week now. Can't risk her getting cough, cold or anything that may delay her treatment. Just hope the surgeon and his team dont go down with it.

I'm not religious, but I hope to (your) God she gets the treatment she needs.

Hope she gets her treatment, it must be a difficult time for both of you.

My wife is currently waiting an appointment for an endoscopy she's dreading it, but more so she dreading it being cancelled.

The wait and uncertainty is a nightmare. Thankfully we're in the system early. Hopefully your wife will get it done, clear and mind at rest before the impact on NHS really bites.

Just spoke to one of my Spanish friends. As you know they are confined to home unless they are going to buy food or to a medical centre.
She went to the supermarket this morning and had to queue to get in as they are only letting 30 in at a time.
She described the British holiday makers in Benidorm as “subnormal” (yes that is a Spanish word too) because they are refusing to obey the rules, and are making a nuisance of themselves in the streets. They have no excuse because the loudspeaker vans in Benidorm are making the announcements of the regulations in English.
Every night the Spanish will be applauding from their balconies or terraces a different branch of the emergency services or those that still have to serve the public.
It was an interesting chat.

How embarrassing.

O.K here we go ,yesterday a family friend was panicking everyone that her husband had got the virus ,high temperature and coughing etc so announced to the world that they were going into lockdown for a week ,all well and good but my granddaughter had been with them the day before . so she has gone into lockdown as her husband has just had radiotherapy treatment as cant afford even a cold .

this morning I took the wife to the dentist and right in front of me was the family friend , gave us a wave and bold as brass went into the local Iceland store came out 15 minutes later with 3 bags of shopping .. then trotted off to the chemists .. came out and promptly went to savers for at least 10 minutes ..

this is why unless new have a total lock down its not going work far to many muppets being selfish , factual seen with my own eyes .

next we popped into McDonalds for a bite .. first thing that sprung to mind was the new screens that you have to touch to order , at this moment in time WTF
then as we were eating a woman sat her child down at the mini i.pad screens were he promptly started coughing violently all over them ..we picked our stuff up and went and finished up outside THE MIND TOTALLY BOGGLES .

I hope everything goes well for both your families!

Virgin Airways asking staff to take 8 weeks unpaid leave. That’s harsh.

...and Virgin Altantic is asking the UK government for a substantial bailout, incidentally it's co-owner, Mr.Branson is worth some £4.1bn.....socialism for the wealthy?

Hoping it all goes ahead as planned with a positive outcome mate.

I hope everything goes well for your wife. I know from personnel experience all the extra stress it puts on you when you are not sure when things are going to happen. Just need to stay positive (easy to say I know) You also no matter what, need to make time for yourself even if it's just a couple of hours in the garden waiting for that butterfly to come back so you can get "that shot"

So today I woke up to a bad cough and a temp of 38.3.

Thankfully no weddings for a few weeks

I was going to 'Like' your thread but that doesn't seem quite right.

I haven't travelled much in continental Europe(France, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, Netherlands) and apart from Luxembourg, where my visit was very brief, I have seen British tourists behaving appallingly in all of those countries and I feel ashamed that some members of my nation behave in such a manner.

I'm not trying to alter the direction of this thread but I think, and would really like, some Brits to consider how they represent their country while abroad.

Apologies all, let us get back to the topic now.

UK’svsewage system in danger of gridlock from toilet paper substitutes;
There was a massive campaign maybe a couple of years ago, telling people not to flush baby wipes because many were ending up in the sea (?!)
But of course all of these, are not designed to disintegrate quickly in water..
Some European countries don't flush the paper down the loo. And have a specific bin for the purpose ...
Can you see many Brits doing that?
No me either ...

https://www.theguardian.com/comment...l-distancing-coronavirus-stay-home-government

'So what should the government do? Here, I think policymakers should allow for the possibility that scientists don’t yet know which narrative is right: whether covid-19 can be stopped, as the fire narrative suggests, or whether it’s an unassailable tide. The virus is new, and its behaviour is relatively unknown. But a huge global scientific and medical effort is under way to understand the genetics, mutation and transmission of the virus, to model its spread, to learn from the experience of other countries, and to explore the viability of vaccines or cures.

The government’s bet that the virus is unstoppable – and its decision to allow it to spread through the population over the summer – is a move that, if misjudged, could lead to hundreds of thousands of unnecessary deaths.

A basic principle of good decision-making under extreme uncertainty is to make choices that are robust to whichever narrative turns out to be right. Right now, surely policymakers need to buy time; and that means slowing the spread as much as possible, while we learn more.

The most honest and credible narrative is surely to admit our ignorance: that the government doesn’t, and can’t, know yet what is best. In the meantime, we should hold back the virus with every resource we have, until the science around it is clearer. I would like to believe that, as a nation of pragmatists, this is a story we can all get behind.'

I’m half-way there with that. I have a very long run of sewer until it reaches the boundary which regularly blocks (usually after I’ve had family staying :() and it takes all my 3 sets of drain rods to clear it :(. There’s never any obvious reason for it, just overwhelmed with paper I think and of course Australians (@boyfalldown ) don’t flush the loo very often (those not on mains water) :).

Isn’t it wonderfully refreshing to see how people come together and help ease each other’s burden at the time of crisis...... no wait.

I'm not gonna like that post as its a true WTF? moment

Without wishing to be argumentative my Grandson has had a cough since early in the year, doctors just don't seem to be able to get rid of it for him but he's not infectious, none of his immediate family have gone down with it and they have been close to him since it started. Bl**dy annoying for the rest of us though and I'm sure anyone not knowing the history would be terrified seeing/hearing him, especially now.

I have had a cough for a couple if years. Comes and goes. Been xrayed etc. They think its a allergy but not identified.
The govt emphasis a new and unidentified cough. But as you say, people seeing you cough in public will assume the worst.

Isle of Man TT 2020 is another casualty , it's just been cancelled.

Time to cancel my sky Sports TV package I think
