The virus. PPE. Part 1

Persistent, as in almost continuous, racking cough lasting more than a year, including occasionally passing out briefly + hallucination. GPs couldn’t find any treatment but eventually I got to an ENT man who could also find nothing wrong and said he thought it may be post-nasal drip + silent reflux and that he would prescribe a “not clinically proven” treatment lasting 6 months altogether. Within 2 weeks the cough had gone :) and has never returned to the same degree :).

Isle of Man TT 2020 is another casualty , it's just been cancelled.

Time to cancel my sky Sports TV package I think
Good, hopefully some of the "old" boys will now retire gracefully and live a long and happy retirement instead of having "one last go" and killing themselves much to the extreme sadness of all of us that have enjoyed their past performances. I really hope the likes of McGuiness will bow out, it would be so sad to see him killed.

yes not very nice BUT does his mother in this moment in time then take him to McDonalds .. and if so a drive through would surely be the answer ...
Agreed. We are supposed to be going out with them next weekend and tbh I hope it doesnt happen for everyone's sake. Although (Lord knows why) his other Grandparents are coming up from Wales, who also have aged parents themselves, so I suppose it will go ahead so as not to disappoint them. My vote would be to cancel it.

I have had a cough for a couple if years. Comes and goes. Been xrayed etc. They think its a allergy but not identified.
The govt emphasis a new and unidentified cough. But as you say, people seeing you cough in public will assume the worst.
Mine comes and goes, allergic to dairy produce (if I have too much) so not sure if my current one is Covid or not, no other symptoms so my guess it's not.
We've all been sent home as we can work from home, yippee (logged of work hours now, so dont feel guilty posting in my own time).

Can you let me know what he advised please? You've practically described my case.
Acid reflux was flagged as a possible cause for mine. PM if you wish. Cheers. Brian

I concur, I think I would be tempted to postpone it too.

The positive news is that that figure is far lower than the number of deaths in Spain and Italy. We shouldn’t forget that others are suffering much more than us.
My understanding is that the death rate is worse in both those due to the tighter family social structure. Eg more grandparents living with families. Kinda makes sense.
I agree we need to be mindful of people suffering everywhere.

Go out where?
I don't think you should be going anywhere with anyone elderly.
They should be staying put

Boris has just said that people should now avoid going to pubs and clubs. Somehow I doubt this won't be adhered to. They are going to have to get tougher with panic buying and enforcing best practices if that is the way ahead, otherwise everything is just a waste of time.

It would have been an "open" venue.
His other Grandparents (daughter in Law's parents) like us have aged parents and I'm amazed they want to circulate and risk getting the virus and passing it on. Hopefully Boris' request will be adhered to by them.

I think I understand the principle of herd immunity. However, given the never ending movement of people all over the planet the herd is never just those living in the UK. The herd must the entire world population otherwise there cannot be herd immunity.
I suspect that the bozos in the press have locked on to this "herd immunity" term and made something else to be sensational about.

Herd immunity is based on vaccination programmes though.

Sent home from my new job this morning, self isolation for 7 days as my daughter has been sent home from school with a cough, temperature and a sore throat. My wife has also been sent home from work (hygene tech in a dentist) for 7 days isolation.

@mex Your 7 days just became 14 days for your whole family :-(

I’ll PM you, cooking at the moment and I’ll have to think about it :(.

I believe it was Sir Patrick Vallance our chief scientific officer who first mooted Herd Immunity. Although they been desperately trying to put that cat back into the bag these last few days!

Havent they just? Just watched a Cambridge GP on BBC on a questions session who mentioned it and then actively avoided it saying "thats a whole other question"!

Macron has just given another address to the nation here in France.

Everybody must stay at home for the next 15 days and there'll will be sanctions for those who don't obey.

A very Churchillian speech and didn't once refer to "squashing the sombrero"

There was a massive campaign maybe a couple of years ago, telling people not to flush baby wipes because many were ending up in the sea (?!)
But of course all of these, are not designed to disintegrate quickly in water..
Some European countries don't flush the paper down the loo. And have a specific bin for the purpose ...
Can you see many Brits doing that?
No me either ...

I recall a few years ago an article on BBC Breakfast where the BBC interviewed a manufacturer of wet wipes who said they are safe to flush down the loo. The BBC then went to a sewage works with 15 foot+ piles of wet wipes they had to drag out of the system because they definitely should not be flushed.

I quite like the idea of loo/poo paper going in the bin, When I collect our dog's poo I put it in the bin, so why now ours? Is this a bridge too far?

Dave

As I mentioned a few days ago, everyone at work able to work from home is doing so from today.
Instead of working a full 8hr shift, we were told to leave 3/4hr early this gives cleaners 1/2hr to clean shared computers, desks, and doors before the late shift arrives. We have been told that this is likely to continue for 4 months.

I was planning on going to Silverstone for the BTCC media test day tomorrow, just learnt that spectators won't be allowed in tomorrow, but the testing will still go ahead. The season is supposed to start at the end of the month, don't know if it will go ahead without spectators as race day is televised on ITV4 or whether the start of the season will be delayed.

Macron has just announced that electricity, gas and water bills along with rents will be suspended, Johnson suggests we don't go to pubs, clubs etc and avoid contact with other people....but keeps schools open, odd one that for me.

They've got a plan, and so far it appears to have worked.

It stood out that when BJ was asked about support for business etc he gave airy fairy answers. I would have preferred something solid, like reducing business rates by 10% each week until zero while the crisis is ongoing.

A lot of small businesses don't pay business rates, so that only helps the larger companies who need it less.

Yeah I know. It was just a top of head example for illustration not a modelled suggestion. :)

I think the CSO and CMO plan has been good.
The guaranteed support packages for businesses and individuals, not so.

So far, it appears to be.
I'm not saying that won't change though.

I'm pretty sure things will change dramatically over the coming days/weeks/months, but I really do feel that the government should be looking after it's citizens in a more proactive way, if only Johnson would follow Macron's announcements regarding house bills etc or Spain's Sanchez's announcement that private hospitals are going to be nationalised for the duration, we on the other hand are looking at renting beds in private hospitals at the tune of (IIRC) £2.5m a day.
