The virus. PPE. Part 1

Great contradiction in one sentence!

I think you have agreed with what I said - washing your hands will only slow the spread of it.
I’ll have another go. Though car analogies are always a bit dodgy. If you wear a seat belt it may save your life in a crash but it may not and it may also kill you. The crash could be so bad it crushes you completely or some insecure luggage may take your head off :(, but also the belt may save your life but then kill you because it hampers your getting out from the ensuing fire. See, loads of possibilities but no contradictions :).

Wonder how the figures will compare in a weeks time?
Don't forget to pop by and update us....
Since the virus was detected in December 2019, around 350,000 road deaths vs 3600 virus deaths, I could do this daily but you can use the Internet so look up the figures yourself.

Just to put this all in context a recent survey has shown that 100% of people who died recently failed to contract the disease post mortem. :wideyed: :naughty:

I think I may know my first case: someone who works in a shop in Oxford dealing with lots of students, so quite possibly exposed to more international contacts than many. Hopefully they will get tested in the next couple of days.

Apparently there's no fever - I suspect they just have a cold.

But we'll wait & see. Trouble is that there's nothing about this infection that makes it stand out as obviously different, at least early on.

That's not what I asked though.
I'd expect road deaths to remain fairly consistent, but doubt coronavirus deaths will.
I'm sure you knew what I meant :-)

Ok, I was doing it daily for accuracy, Roads deaths are averaged at around 3600 per day so in a weeks time the deaths toll will be around 372,000 we can check the virus figures next week :). As a side note 1.8million people died as a direct result of smoking tobacco since the virus was detected 3-4 months ago.

I have been sneezing all morning and my throat is a little dry, I am not panicking or anything, as I have been rummaging around a dusty cupboard. :)

the road death analogy is a red herring and those clinging to it and similar ones are simply unable to see it.

I despair. English is clearly not your strong point, though you seem to be a native speaker so maybe I should say “logic” rather than English.Your inability to understand fairly simple statements makes it nearly impossible to have discourse with you. I have persevered so far because I think it helps everyone if we try to understand why you think the way you do but I think I have failed in that :(.

It's impossible with you, yes - you got caught writing rubbish and now you have become condescending - oh dear!

@sphexx - lets face it; the only reason you are posting is an attempt to criticise the Government like you do in all your postings.

Yes, that GP in Melbourne said he just had a slight cold and didn’t fit the criteria for testing but went ahead and test later and was found positive — of course there are almost certainly false positives, not to mention cockups, in testing :(.

I was in hospital Saturday - Tuesday and the chap in the next bed was coughing his head of, this am I’ve been coughing too but probably it’ll pass (or I shall :() :).

My old ma survived TB, Cancer, Pleurisy, Yellow Jaundice and lived in the East End during the Blitz and 50's smog
Got killed by a car crossing the road to go shopping, its gonna get you one way or the other.

Well, at last you got something right! I always criticise HMG (of any political stripe), it‘s what they are there for :) but no, it’s not the reason I am posting here. :).

Sorry to hear that.
Of course it will get you one way or another. Or you may die naturally if you're lucky.
Doesn't mean everyone should be blasé about coronavirus.

I just hope they release that new olympus long range lens before I get it :olympus::ty:

And the reason you're posting?
To correct and inform?
Or to argue with anyone that has a differing opinion to yours?
As you do in all Your posts.
Apart from your photography posts......oh wait...

Just go about your business as normal, should be covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze anyway.
Same goes with washing your hands and chucking away soiled tissues

Is it so bad if this thins the herd a bit, its what nature does, always has and always will (hopefully)

........and there was me thinking it was a discussion board? (.....and it takes more than one to argue!)

I post because I can't believe the traction and fear this illness is causing with people; well actually I can because people love hanging on to disaster stories:

Nuclear war
AIDS
Climate change
Coronavirus

Nature always finds a way......if it was nature :woot:

On here?
You obviously interpret things differently from me.
As you said, it's a discussion board......

I think one problem is that trust in experts has taken a bit of a bashing in recent years as time after time they've been shown to be contradictory, incompetent, biased or otherwise not worth listening to, on so many topics and on so many occasions. I suppose some of this could be media/chattering classes panic. Lets hope so. Talking about all this last night with a nurse she was convinced the masks are next to useless but I suppose they maybe make people feel better as wearing one is something they can do.

I was also thinking about the numbers who die from flu every year and if we view all human life as precious and every life lost a tragedy maybe we should react as positively as we seem to be reacting to corona to the flu epidemics we see so often.

Northern Italy is now under a people movement lockdown due to the unfettered infection rate. An overdue action IMO.
Despite that two flights from Milan have landed at Heathrow this morning and the passengers were allowed through with out being checked. More flights are due into LHR & Gatwick this afternoon and other UK cities. That makes no sense.
China and Iran have prohibited flights from Italy.

I don’t think you’re right about all experts contradicting etc.
I don’t think the masks are useless, maybe limited utility but every little help. I think if you wear any mask it may catch droplets and stop you passing the disease on and it will stop you touching your mouth and maybe just raise your awareness of what you should be doing.
