The virus. PPE. Part 1

I’m not sure I can be bothered to correct you ... but here goes. The Conservatives and DUP (hard Brexit) got 44% of vote the others (at least anti hard Brexit to varying degrees) therefore got 66% of the voting so on your basis I am massively in the majority and you are pitifully in the minority :).

Our stupid electoral system produces stupid results — note I am not saying either side are stupid.
Correction: senior moment :( 44% versus 56% not 66! :(
Thanks to @broc for pointing this out to me.

@sphexx - the Country is split into areas because these areas have different issues then the candidate who gets the most votes in that area gets elected - sounds the best system to me :) [/QUOTE%]
Sadly, even that’s not true, about the most votes I mean, an MP can, and often is elected on less than 50% of the votes, that’s the system.
@Raymond Lin - so the Government shouldn't follow the advice of experts and should listen to you and your panick about a flu bug?
Well, it‘s not a flu bug, I guess you’re listening to the Trump who has recently opined that the flu vaccine would work against this COVID :(

No, they should consider a plan that shows that it works for this virus. The numbers are right there for all to see.

Problem -> Solution.

And it is not a flu bug, that's like saying chickenpox is just like measles.

Flu has a mortality rate of like 0.2%, this currently has a worldwide mortality rate of 3.4%.

It's like apples of oranges.

No, no, the very stable genius Trump says he feels it is much lower than 1% :)

And I think the 3.4% is kind of skewed, sure a lot of people just have mild symptoms, but of the tested so far, and that is a LOT of people tested, like hundreds and hundreds of thousands of people, that is the mortality rate. That is a large enough sample size to draw a good picture of the mortality rate.

Also, China has the resources to fight this, they can build a hospital in a week. There are no other countries on the planet can pull that off. The mortality rate for 90% of other countries out there will be much higher than China's due to the simple fact that they simply cannot cope. If you go by Italy's numbers of 10% require ICU care, there are no country on earth can cope with that.

Which is why you need to contain it as soon as you can.

Instead, we have washing our hands and hoping for warm weather.

The government are following the advice of the medical experts in their planning.

Raymond - I'm glad I have never been in a crisis with you around! Why don't you go to China for 8 weeks?

Actually, the fact is that it is safer over there, and they will quarantine visitors from countries like ours for 14 days on entry!

Look, I am not saying they should lock down the country today, but they are still putting on all the sporting events, 50, 60, 80k people together. The Italians have postponed of put football matches behind closed doors.

It is only a matter of time that it will happen here, the question is how many people has to be infected or die before you do that?

I know deep down you know i am right, but too stubborn to admit it. Since everything i have said are facts, backed with proof that it works.

I think you may be a little confused. Any developed country (and even a few others) can bring in an emergency tent hospital. They are often used at disaster sites where getting patients to permanent units is not an option. The problem is staffing the temporary units. China may have more spare staff than most other countries but there are only so many skilled staff they can draw on at the end of the day.

Like I said - watch Question Time - they answer your concerns.

Sure, any countries can put up a tent, 1000 tents.

But China built hospitals with foundation, proper quarantine zones and equipment and staff to man them.

They don't unfortunately because their opinions are not backed up with facts (I wish it was), and you have nothing to contribute really if "Question Time" is your only answer.

Are you cancelling all your weddings where there are guests? Are you making them sign a document saying they've been tested?

Have you watched it?

It is not up to me to cancel weddings, I am technically an "employee".

I like how you are changing the goal post though.

Any chance you could just comment, without either blaming labour or saying how brilliant the Tories are?

Might come as a shock to you, but to be honest you just come across as a bit of a pillock.

Shame you don't say the same to all those on here that just 'bash' the Tories - that makes you look like a ******

Not sure about that. Of course you right about tents etc but that’s not the same bricks and mortar like the Chinese. But I think they can deploy far more (proportionally and absolutely) trained people than we can and they will, without qualms, deplete outer areas of trained staff and let ‘ordinary sick people’ in intensive care die for ‘the greater good’ (of The Party) which we can’t.

Anything is possible; not everything is probable.

I’m sure you really believe that. :wideyed:

WHO numbers.

There are no social media leaks (like inside Wuhan), on other cities in China blowing up. Don't forget, the press from the west are still reporting inside China.

But you are happy to attend these gatherings?

Trying to comment on something you haven't watched is quite frankly.....daft.

Giving your opinions on statistics is also daft when the medical experts do not agree with you.

If 80% of the population is infected at that point?

Happy? No.

Obligated and contracted and that I will honour my contract? Yes, absolutely.

Where did I say people themselves to stay at home? I said the government should look at stop mass gathering like sporting events (I actually said that), but you have turned this into "weddings", because you know that's what I do, just to change your goal post.

You are a terrible person in debates, you know that? One of those who changes the goal posts when the facts are not on your side.

On that note....putting on ignore.

If you read my posts it would help!

I told you Question Time covered the point of mas gatherings but you choose to ignore that and make comment on something you haven't even watched!

A doctor on the panel agreed with the expert advice that large events DO NOT cause the infection to spread any differently.

Your opinion which I am making the assumption is NOT EXPERT is different but based on YOUR OPINION of statistics.

The health secretary actually stated that their advice & actions are drawn from areas that have been infected and what has & hasn't worked.

The health secretary also said they had consulted the major supermarkets about maintaining food supplies for people self isolating, something he was accused of making up by the supermarkets today. What else did he make up? How about the 'Dads NHS Army' of retired NHS workers?

Well there wasn't any opposition from the MP's of other parties present last night.

Unfortunately the left wing will criticise the Tories no matter what they do.

And the right wing will always criticise Labour ..... largely irrelevant to the argument that the Health Secretary made up a story that was later proven to be complete fabrication.

I take it you didn't watch Question Time either?

It's hardly difimative proof - a couple of unnamed sources to the biased BBC!

On the evening news they say the shelves are bare in a lot of shops, as people are panic buying. Are they really? Just been in our local CO OP and it seems fully stocked. Doing an Aldi and Asda shop tomorrow, hope they are fully stocked.

Yes I did watch QT, it was almost civilised for part of the programme for a change. The Health Secretary was quite convincing in his story about working with the supermarkets...... at the time I believed him. The fact that it was fabrication casts serious doubts about what else he said. If he had said the Govt intended to talk to the supermarkets he would have got some credit..... instead he dug himself a hole.

Interesting you take the views of a journalist using un named sources as proof he wasn't telling the truth.

Thats a valid point, we should always try and verify news reports and not take them as a given, but the BBC is a reliable news source that has never lost a Fact Check, so there's a strong likelihood that the report is correct.

It's not uncommon for journalists to use unnamed sources for news stories. At least two journalists (BBC & Guardian) were told about the 'discrepancies' in the story about discussions between the Govt & the supermarkets. Both the BBC and Guardian have reported on subsequent discussions between the Environment Secretary and the supermarkets today Friday.

But it's not unusual for the 'unnamed source' to make the story up - may not be the journalist but the actual person that is reporting having alternative motives

I did mention in another thread that the BBC is the broadcasting arm of The Guardian - both have a heavy bias.

Why do you think the BBC and Guardian are biased? What are these biases and where do they stem from? Which broadcasters and newspapers do you think are unbiased and why? Perhaps also say what you mean by bias.

In the news. Coronavirus sees 'large spike in demand' for toilet paper. I wonder why.

Went shopping in Tesco‘s this morning. All was normal until I went buy a couple of bottles of Carex handwash as we had run out at home. My local Tesco has about eight shelves for that product, all of which were empty. Nipped into Morrisons to get some as I had an Amazon parcel to collect from the locker there, same story - no Carex. Plenty of other brands available though, just no Carex oddly. Maybe that’s what the news classes as panic buying.
