The TP iPhone Apps and Updates Thread

theres some great apps here
and recommend the gorillacam app

Min_U Guide: XXX

Where XXX is D700, D300, etc etc etc

Very useful.

I'm probably being a bit thick here, but does that allow you to make your iphone manually adjustable to any exposure you want for the scene?

Or is it just a light meter

You can change the settings, ISO, shutter f stop etc. You take a picture and then it selects what setting. So lets you want you a shutter of 1/250th and you using ISO 400. Take a photo then the app tells you the f number.

Hopefully that helps out, I'll try and do a video or something of the app soon

Matt, Darren, thanks for the excellent suggestions and for taking the time to post them on here!

Cheers!

great thread

new to iphone so nice to get some recommendation.

would be interested to hear more on the camera side of things

Welcome to iPhone

My fave app by far is Hipstamatic - a simply awesome and stylish camera app. Check it out :)

I have just installed 'shootit' it is a free app to download that enables you to take a pic or use one from library and then send it as a postcard. in the UK it costs around 80p ($1.20) to send. You get one free trial postcard which I am currently waiting for so will update with its quality etc but on the face of it, it looks like a fairly cheap good idea

Cool Steve,

Let us know what the results and service are like. If peachy then I will add to the list. Thanks matey

My sim should be here Monday, I feel like a kid on xmas morning:D

Just received my free sample in the post today!

I sent it from the iPhone on Wednesday and received today (sat) so not a bad turnaround. The postcard was pretty good quality overall, same size as a standard postcard with same format on back for writing ie address on right text on left. Text was a good size, picture quality of printing was good.

I will re-use this app in the future. From the website the postcards are printed in the country of destination (it is not worldwide at the moment so if sending to outside uk check the website) mine came from Berkshire.

Very impressed!!

Iphone camera: are there better options than standard?
so i've tried free ones: gorillacam, camera plus, but find both to be slow on taking pictures.

any other suggestions?

Hipstamatic - non standard camera but VERY FUNKY lomo effect shots that seem to make more of a character of the iphone camera...

Nice! Cheers for the review Steve! I must admit when I read your first post I thought you meant it sent it through email rather than a physical postcard! Very cool!

All up to date :) Thanks all for the additions - especially those who took the time to include the links to the app store and website in their post - makes it soooo much easier to keep up!

 No worries Steve! More than happy to share yours - looks a great App! Will use when on holiday FoSho!

Is there a decent app similar to a paper filofax? Someone told me about Pl lite but can't find it

Vintage Video Maker App - Superb and versatile retro video maker - lets you create effects from the 1920's through to today! Fantastic grainy retro feel.

Any more updates for this thread? I'm looking for some addictive games, at the moment I keep switching between

Flick Rugby
Angry Birds
Words With Friends
Flight Control

Add to this TuneIn Radio, which I can now listen to while plying these games, I simply can't put this new iPhone down,

Struggling to find time in the day for anything else at the moment!

I love threads like this one. Sometimes looking you can miss loads.

Is there an app that can allow a timer function on the iPhone camera?

Just spotted this and am suprised there seems to be one app missing that is awesome, particularly for photographers.

The Photographers Ephemeris
It's an app that allows you to see the direction of the sunrise, sunset, moonrise, moonset - all on a google map at any point on the earth. it also shows you azimuth, height above horizon (for when planning sunrise shots to know when the sun appears above the mountain you're at the bottom of).

It's also available on the Mac/PC too.

I also use World Tides 2010 for when I venture to the coast. Does as it says on the tin - tells you when low/high tide is for any location.

Spot on..!

Scott Kelby, photo recipes. Watched the first few chapters, basic but good. All about light :)

Downloaded on iPad...not tried phone version...

Hi Gary,

I got this too after seeing your post. It is pretty basic but that's ok for me. Figure it must all be stuff you already knew though?

In the clamshell 2 tutorial I noticed he uses a flash as his white backdrop. Considering the lengths people go to in order to make sure their white backdrop is only 1 stop overexposed is this really a good idea?

Cheers,
Dub

Havent seen this one mentioned yet..an app that was recommended to me.

Camera +

http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/id329670577?mt=8

Its a camera application like the standard camera, but with some great features.

use one finger to pick your focus poin and then touch the screen with another finger to set the exposure. it works great and then once you have taken the photo you can apply some effects.

£1.19 from iTunes store.

Cheers
Chris.

Superb. Thanks all! Up to date - including my iPhone!

I highly recommend Skobbler, it's a SatNav app.
Details can be seen at: http://www.skobbler.co.uk/
The 'Lite' version (which I use) is Free to download from the Apps Store, or there is a £1.19 version which has the Speed Camera warnings included

http://download.cnet.com/YouTube-Downloader/3000-2071_4-10647340.html

Not exactly an 'App', but a great little program to complement use on the iPhone.

It's a video downloader and converter. e.g. you want to view or keep a youtube video on your phone but the download each time takes ages. Download it to your PC via this and then transfer it across to the phone via iTunes. If it's not a compatible format, it will do a conversion of any saved video you have too!

It's a totally free program (spyware free, no registration, etc), which imo works a treat

GoodReader is fantastic. It gives you a "finder / explorer" interface for your saved files. I have put my PRICE LIST on the iPad now and use this at viewings instead of printed price lists... It renders PDF files perfectly.

Gary.
