There's a real irony with Steve.

He's against radical extremists coming to our Christian country and trying to force everyone to their views, through their laws. He has strong feelings on:
NATO membership, yet never served in the force.
Christian views, yet doesn't belong to a church or attend regularly
Regularly says I'm not a racist but spouts bigoted messages
Doesn't want sharia law but hasn't a clue what it is, what it's teachings are, or possibly even the differences between Sunni or Shia Islamic faiths.

For someone who's so against radical extremism, isn't it funny that he himself is one?
An extremist is someone who takes their views to the max, beyond what normal people think is acceptable.
Speeding, most people have a certain limit. 85 on the motorway, 90? You see some people up to 100, but that seems to be the accepted maximum to even the fastest, but that's not enough for Steve, he has to tax it way past, to the extreme.
Immigration, most people would say we need to exam the abuses, but Steve want to deport, or torpedo them before they even get to our shores, or better still let them drown before they get here. Taken to the extreme.
Someone breaking into your house, stab them, hurt them, not call the police, make a noise, discourage them. Extreme views.

None of this is wrong in Stevens eyes because he's proud and British, in a Christian country, yet he misses the whole point of Christian culture, like so many other, forgiveness, welcoming, acceptance. Yet in every way he's a British extremist, culturally equivilant to those he's so alimentary about. The irony is, he doesn't see it.

Integration, mixing, learning from each other. Walk a mile in the others shoes. Only through understanding others views will you stop the hatred.

We don't need to wake up and stop the incoming flux of sharia law taking over our country, because it isn't happening. We need to wake up to the bigoted views that are starting to rot this countries values. Racial, cultural tolerance isn't being soft, it's an essential part of the modern world to allow all to live together peacefully.
 
Whilst there is, in my opinion, a good healthy portion of dramatic expression in the posts, it shouldn't take away from a situation that if we aren't able to discuss these kind of topics they may disappear for ever from a certain social acceptance to discuss them. There are many who seem to love to deny and sweep under the table, yet the mere existence should mean we shouldn't ever have topics that can't be discussed.

As a foreign national myself, an having resided in many different countries this isn't about racial or cultural (in)tolerance. This is about fitting in, about making an effort. On a very basic level, when I reside in England I speak English, in Italy I spoke Italian, in Holland I spoke Dutch, in Germany German, in Ivory Coast English :P But you get my point, to me these kind of things are not just basic courtesy, it is part of the fun and adventure of moving about. Bending over backwards to translate government services in multiple languages as an example etc seem daft to me...Surely it is kinder to motivate people to fit in and speak the language. Feel free to swap language for anything else, the concept remains the same to me...
 
When I speak of fascism I. England, I'm not necessarily thinking of Mosley and his pimpled followers. English fascism, when it arrives, is likely to be a sedate and subtle kind ( presumably, at any rate at first, it won't be called fascism) and it is doubtful whether a Gilbert and Sullivan heavy dragoon stamp would ever be much more than a joke to the majority of English people. But what I am thinking of at this moment is the racist attitude of the mind, which beyond any doubt is gaining ground among people who ought to know better.

Dejong, whilst I appreciate your point, it does make it easier to explain our laws, expectations and customs, whilst they are learning the language, as it takes some time to learn the basics, never mind the difficult words used for financial or legal terms. Plus the British are shameful at learning other languages, we are spoilt as a lot of the world speak some English.

I agree that it is shameful. However, people from many other countries have a bit of a head start over us. English is a fairly universal language so you are likely to hear it used in other countries, especially European countries. However, all we hear over here is English.

I guess we disagree on this one. I always see it as my responsibility to ensure I understand it when I want to consume services or sell my skills in order to get what I want.

Other than for successful asylum seekers to help integrate and rebuild their lives, i find it hard to find a valid reason.

They have a head start because they learn English. Learning a foreign language here really isn't seen as important. I find that shameful. Frankly we British are an embarrassment when abroad.

I got there because we were discussing illegal immigrants and they do come in by sea.

I should have guessed in the context it was that it was two random kids that drowned on a day out to the seaside. Because that would be relevant to the thread/discussion....

No. I never said anything to lead you there. Neither did I make you think they were illegals. However, it is quite a famous photo (and story) about the racism and disregard held towards one ethnic group within Italy. The girls had next of kin to.

I had thought maybe you were aware of the story, or dared hope you might atleast spend two minutes reading the story before jumping to conclusions. Sorry about that

I think that's true. I had French and German lessons at school but they didn't teach me much. I learned a fair amount of French about twelve years ago but wouldn't consider myself to be fluent as I still translate it to English in my head. I think a true sign of fluency is using the language without having to translate.

And as for German, I can ask where the cat is and tell you it is on the table... but not much more than that!

· NATO is for powerful wealthy countries, not bankrupt ones.


On people fleeing their country for a better life.
· IMHO what should happen is if a boat of these illegals are found, they are not rescued to deter future lots from trying the same.
· Tough decisions have to be made sometimes. It comes under defence of the realm.
· IMHO if the Americans shot illegals they caught in the act of breaching their borders or even illegals in the USA, they'd find the problem would soon go away


On seeing bodies on the beach
· There's nothing wrong with what I see there.
· We are all such delicate little flowers, my main issue with the image was the background was OOF
· We just shouldn't rescue them
· It's practical IMHO. What happens to these people breaking in, its karma IMHO
· Nor will be there be armed guards at calais / dover shooting those found under lorries etc.


On sex offenders
· I never said the perp should be shot in the face by the TP justice mob, but I think the government should do it or legal channels exist to kill those guilty of those depraved crimes.

On ISIS
· Don't they (ISIS) marry pre pubescent girls?

On Immigration
· I do have a big problem with those that come here, complain about our education system, complain about dogs (they are a part of our culture) and refuse people bus travel because their dog offends their religion.
· If they wish to live with that, they can, and should be made to live elsewhere, irrespective of being born here.
· Don't be obtuse, a lot of them will work their way through Italy and France to here. It's a big problem. One the Royal Navy could solve by torpedoing the ships...but our leaders are too spineless to protect us from Illegal invaders.
· Why must we be a dumping ground for the dross of the world.
· They are guests until they intergrate, marry into the natives a nd abandon their old customs/ways for the customs/ways of the host nation. It doesbt matter if they look different, that's their genetics but they have to wholly fit into, adopt and embrace the ways, methods and customs of the host nation before the hosts can feel they are one of them.
· Arranged marriages, honour killings, burkas. These are ones that aren't ours but ones we see in Muslim countries and now it's happening here.
· we've got about 100years of Jihadists to look forward to
· We're getting invaded alright, just in a different way
· the shape of our lifes will slowly be eroded. It must be resisted. The Islamification of our culture needs to be resisted.
· many areas of Britain are now no longer British but islamified, and they'll spread and spread...
· The ones that actively try to destroy us, should be shot dead.
· many of those born here have completely failed to integrate to British life and worse still seek to destroy it


On religion
· Christianity is the host religion of Britain. If you proactively practice a religion that's not ever been here, how can you truly see yourself as British?
· trying to spread a religion that's wholly foreign to the ways, culture of this land isn't on.
· That means prosecute that practice sharia, arranged marriages and other barbarous customs in this land.
· Fact. Islam is rearing its ugly head with its barbarous customs here.



On the legal system
· Because of the stupid laws that pander to people who are nothing more than guests here.
· Eventually as our Islamic population grows and their radical members drum up support the mix of the population will be predominantly Eastern/Semitic as opposed to Arian. I hope you are ready and willing to see Sharia law, Halal, Islam become the new norm and live in a regime thats more akin to whats in Saudi etc than what we have. Best practice getting up at 4am, you'll need to for when you are forced to go to morning prayer in future years once Islam becomes the new norm. Fundamentalist Islamists will stop at nothing to spread that religion here and convert people to it.



On Luton
· A town where the taxi drivers could barely speak English, where there were significantly more women in Burkhas than not..

Don't get me wrong, I understand your concerns, but having struggled through some legal meetings in France, a language and country I thought I knew quite well, I had to resort to an interpretor to assist with some of the more difficult aspects of legal and financial terms and understanding.
As such I can put myself in others places, not understanding, in a strange country. Leaflets printed in a familiar language to take away and digest are a cheap method to assist with information

Fully agree and so do I. However at my own expense as it was my choice to move here. I just do not think this should be provided by the government.

A lot of sense there even though you've removed the context of my posts.. If you are happy to bend over backwards and appease others at the expense of your own, you do that. I for one won't change my ways to appease foreign people.

I see you've missed out the comments I've made about welcoming those who've intergrated, the fact I have foreign friends, the fact I have said we should tolerate other people (but not to the detriment of our own) and as such if you wish to paint me as a hate cleric to suit your agenda, that is fine. But let it not be said I've made myself clear.

My sister in law had to do exactly the same thing when she had to deal with a French insurance company to handle a claim on her house in France.

I can make myself understood in France for general day to day things but I think I would struggle with things like legal or engineering definitions, etc.
