I think we are being prepared for some sad news.

I thought she looked very frail on the news when Boris resigned.

At 96, no surprise that her frailty is showing.

Only time will tell how she well recovers..............and it would be a delight if she can get to send herself a 100th Telegram.

Yup. Best wishes and all to her and her family.

Yup. Looks bad. Best wishes and thought to her and her family.

I used to be a bit of a royalist but these days? Not so much. I personally see Charles as unfit for any public office and will be sad to see him and Camilla as King + Whatever. I think a lot of public loyalty will dissipate with the Queens eventual passing.

I agree, it looks like maybe the end of a long era coming before long. Frankly I hope she passes peacefully soon, rather than drag it out painfully - she deserves at least that after 70+ years on the throne and 96 years of being on duty. I'm ambivalent about Charles as King, but I think he himself sees a need fopr serious modernisation of the role of the monarchy, to avoid his grandchildren going through a life like his (William and Kate are stuck with it). I think we should have a monarchy that is just ceremonial, not functional, like some other European countries.

The news commentary is leaning towards the worst is more likely than optimism of outcome.

This is based on the Buckingham Palace statement (it is rare/exceptional for such health statements) and that the immediate family are all travelling to Balmoral.

I reckon official announcement late afternoon or early evening.

My wife noticed that the back of both of her hands are black/blue. Photos of when she met Liz Truss,I assume. That's the circulation shutting down. I see the family are travelling to Balmoral. Not looking good. The Palace rarely comment on the health of the Queen. Also, during the Commons televised debate at 11.00am this morning re government's announcements re the energy crisis package, notes were being passed amongst the MPs about the news and also Speaker Lindsay Hoyle made an announcement.

Right now I just wished the BBC news was not running "wall to wall" 'talking heads' :(

Threads merged, lets keep it all in one place, and civil.
Thanks

R.I.P so sad.

God bless the Queen :(

I've only just heard, very sad.

Yes, end of an era. The Royal Family can only go one way from here.

God bless the Queen RIP, gob smacking news ! I feel shocked.

The end of an era.

I remember when Princess Di died. I wonder if the floral tributes will be the same?

I really do hope Charles can keep his mouth shut and not bring the monarchy into disrepute. I'd rather he stand aside, but no chance of that.

With respect, I don't think it's appropriate for these thoughts to be discussed here at the moment......

You're welcome to your opinion.

I'm sorry for her immediate family and for those who feel her loss. She served well. May she rest in peace. I doubt we'll see her like again.

And with that and to prevent further offence. I'm most definitely out.

“I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service… God help me to make good my vow.” - Queen Elizabeth 1947

Thank you for your service to us all your majesty.

God save the King!

What has he done? He has spoken out about environmental issues and things that do affect us. What on earth has he done to upset you? Weren't married t oCamilla were you?

Don't be so soft. Everyone is entitled to their views and opinions.

You do it in a respectful way. Someone has died. Someone who spent almost every day until her 90s in public service.

If you have nothing good to say, or didn't like the royal family then why be disrespectful?

Could we please keep this thread just for people to show their respects at the loss of our Queen, please.

Several posters above are derailing and being disrespectful. CEASE AND DESIST.
If you have opinions about the new King or other members of the Royal family, start a separate thread in Hot Topics. Don't do it here.
Any further posts we feel are disrespectful will be deleted.

I am 68, I have known only Queen Elizabeth on the throne and when her death was announced it was all I could do not to shed a tear. My own mother and father seemed to me, as a child, to be very similar in manner to the the Queen and Prince Philip. They died many years ago now and having Prince Philip and then the Queen die in such short order feels to me like I've lost my parents twice. Quite a sad time.

It is so strange to hear people referencing King Charles III, it's going to take a bit of getting used to.

And yes, if you hadn't gathered, I am a consummate Royalist.

I guess it’s not impossible he’ll decide on a different name than Charles, I’m sure he has a slew of them , though I expect it’s unlikely. The Charles 1&2 are not very happy precedents.

I’m not a “Royalist” but I’m not a Republican either. The constitutional monarchy has served us well though a bit frayed at the edges. Actually although the late QE2 did well it should be remembered that her dad did at least as well despite having been unprepared for the job. Looks like I’ve just made into 4 reigns ;)

It has been confirmed he will reign as Charles III.

A sad loss for all of us. I'm not a royalist, but it's impossible not to have admired the Queen.

That sentiment sums up my position, too. It's not uncommon for someone to die not too long after losing their spouse and I wonder if that played a part.

After such a long reign and giving her all I think it's really sad that towards the end she had to witness the shenanigans of Andrew and the backlash from Harry and Meghan.

be a bit weird seeing money and stamps with charles head on instead of the queens...they must have predicted this to happen sooner or later so i wonder if they already have a stock of notes and coins/stamps ready
