THE PP GAME!

Hi Jim & welcome to the game

And what a start and, as Rhodese said, you have shown us some excellent cloning skills  So hoping you become a regular. Only one little thing is you need to say if you want feedback when the winner is selected but not 'pixel peeping' type of feedback. John

Thanks John, yes I'll try and remember that, always want feedback, it's the best way to learn!
I really enjoy this sort of thing so I hope to be a regular:thumbs:

Not doing so well on these so may leave it as the ones so far are way better than I can come up with

H

Opened in PS
adjust raw sliders to enhance
cloned out right hand corner and tree on left
added scene from other image into hill
flattened and sharpened.

Come on Helen - for my sake please have a go

In the past, when I've been stuck, I've tried to think 'away from the norm' & let myself get carried away & ended up with some zany entries. Or why not try a radical crop, or mono, or just anything. Anyway Cathy says she would be lonely being the only lass taking part

Another good un & I thought you were going to swap the guy on the bench for a pic of your husband - now that's an idea

PS Ask Helen to get an entry in :)

Lol! John he looks much the same age as my hubby, so no point there :) still laughing at the thought :)

Come on Helen have a bash I bet you surprise yourself !

Much like Helen, thought there wasn't much to be done to these.... so tried to just enhance what was there already...

Took the second as no takers for this one yet.

Brought up shadows, brought down highlights, added detail, upped vibrance & desaturated greens and blues, resize and sharpen.

5-10 mins, feedback fine!

I would love to take more pics but the Pain Consultant changed my medication in July & that was the last time I took a camera out :( But the good news is that the terrible pain I have been suffering has become bearable but the downside is feeling permanently drugged. Sodding side effects.

Octember

And you've done a nice bit of cloning

Hello John,
I sort of know where you are coming from. I hadn’t taken any pictures since August, because of the failure of my X10 (the shutter release fell to bits). :'( Then the autumn arrival of my old friend Arthur, “Arthur Rightus” he always slows me down.
Then a new X20 came my way. I consequently had a short session in the garden, with the missus propping me up so that I could get an angle on a tree surgeon who was pollarding our cherry trees.
(See the X camera thread.)
Since then I keep promising myself I’ll get the rollator out and get round to the local park. Then reality hits, so its back to my computer and the PP game.
Ah well, it could be worse I suppose. My old dad used to say there’s a few down the cemetery that wished they had my aches and pains.
Onwards and upwards then and here’s to swimming with bow legged women.

It is like me as I've had a go at both & still wondering what to do

Note to self "If I haven't got any shots I'll need to borrow some from someone - if I win again"

Just looked at the X's thread & I like the tree surgeon shots very much  Looks like you're like me - can't take them so next best thing is fiddling with them (photographs that is & PP'ing them) I agree with your Old Dad - er I think I do

Well you asked for it so.....

All could think of was a bit of HDR
LR
Clarity and vibrates brushs
Cloned out the coach

Not proud of it

I just had a little play with the park image, NOT as a contender.
The thing is that in the days of yore when I first had a go with PS, there was a technique called dodging and burning but it was more akin to painting contrast.
It entailed creating a layer above an image, filling it with 50% grey and changing the blending mode to “soft light” (the grey layer becomes invisible).
Then using the brush tool, set a low opacity and a very low flow, set the background to white and the foreground to black. Then paint in the grey layer. Black to darken and white to lighten, slowly “very slowly” building up an overlay.
The effect could be quite dramatic, and in some cases, the only alteration needed.
Apart from cloning, it is the only application applied here.
Works well on B&W.
If I have been presumptuous then I apologise. I thought it might be worth sharing.

I'm just very pleased to see you entering even though it took me getting on my knees & begging you & along with Cathy's gentle nudge

As far as I am concerned I am extremely grateful you are always willing to share & I in turn am always willing to take on board & use to expand my PP'ing. So thanks

Wowy you've sure been hitting those sliders but really good to see something different

cheers, always like to do both, and tend to let my hair down on the second thus i didnt put a run through down, just a thread bumper

Great information I will be trying out this technique

Lastminute.com :)

Liked the flowers, so added more :)

Cropped, adjusted curves. Did a bit of work on colour balance to warm it up a bit and then the rest was done in the selective colour adjustment layer - moving various sliders in almost all channels. Made it a bit brighter this way, increased the yellows in the warmer colours and the cyan in the cooler ones.

10mins, feedback OK.

If you like flowers that much we'll club together & send you some :D

But seriously good bit of 'thinking outside the box' or whatever today's 'in' lingo is

I will close at 11.30 am this morning then post my thoughts as soon after as I can but it may come to 'names in a hat' looking at the entries :gag:

Oooops the sound of the clock tick tocking woke me up!!! Now what is it I'm supposed to do this morning???

Pick your nose... no that's not it, Piccalilli... no that's not it...

Jim An excellent first entry  with great cloning skills & the addition of the bench leg. Good control of the sliders to ensure the face colour is life like.

Rhodese again excellent cloning skills & being able to add the leg in  but something a little wrong (IMO) with the colours as the face doesn't look right

Ben I do love the overall look of this & was surprised no one else tried a mono, or similar. Your second pic shows good creative thinking on what was quite a boring subject

Neil Another very competent edit, as always from you. Realistic colours & putting the bench leg back would have been the icing on the cake. Your second edit is good to see - some creativity

Seajay excellent cloning skills but something not quite right for me with overall colours

Graham as always with you a very competent edit technically & with the realism of the end result

Helen thanks for having a go & you always must or you'll get bullied:lol: But a bit too HDR'ish for me - sorry.

Phil I like your thinking to add more flowers  but overall I feel there should be a bit more pop for my tastes.

I've dived between my desktop, laptop & Ipad to check all entries as hard to chose. But my WINNER IS FLYING GIRAFFE - NEIL with Ben coming second & Jim third

The edit I chose to do was the bandstand as I got fed up with trying to do the other for which I just couldn't get inspired. But on the bandstand I've straightened it a touch, added the red in the boring greenery, added clouds as totally blue skies are boring, cloned out the coach, brought the building out of shadow & fiddled with other bit s & bobs.

You married?

You nag your other half as much?

 Only joking ;)

Naff all would get done if we did not nag

Now get on with it!:D

EDIT Well done
