Laura trott just had a cracking elimination race in the omnomnomnomnium. even had time to wave to the crowd as she crossed the line, she looked like she was going to be eliminated halfway through the race

What a fantastic setting too - National Maritime Museum, Queen's House, etc, etc. Whoever worked out the setup at Greenwich knows a thing or two - http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Guardian/Pix/pictures/2012/7/31/1343741398703/12.jpg

On telly you could just see Cutty Sark's masts behind the stand on the left.

Yep, it IS a stunning setting, looking forward to seeing it for real during the paraolympics

Another good day today, nearly at Beijing medal haul, fingers crossed for a few more yet

That's half the point of the games :), "Hey world look what we have to offer in London, come and visit sometime " I didn't see much of the marathon, but expect the route was past nearly every iconic London landmark .

At last its Beth the Medal at the olympics :)

The girls will nail it in the velodrome (Laura T & Victoria P) - come on girls!!

Hope so, despite the success, still trying to not count chickens and all that! ;)

I wandered briefly down victoria embankment yesterday, it was very quiet people wise and even the traffic was relatively light and moving well considering it was gone 5 and well into normal rush hour time - quite pleasant infact....can we have more olympics please  On a slightly serious note though, I can understand why businesses in central london have been shocked by the fall in business when they were expecting an increase, so I hope for their sakes, the 'legacy' is even more visitors in the future. Many small businesses collapsed when congestion charging was brought in, it would be very unfair if the Olympics, an event paid for in no small part by Londoners, was the cause of even more of them losing their business/jobs. In fairness to the organisers though, they have certainly used the event to showcase the country, not just around London, but over at Eton Dorny and Weymouth, Lee Valley, all are looking fantastic and are a great advert for getting people to visit the country

woop woop well done our boys gold and bronze

Yorkshire 11th in Olympic medal table. 4 golds - Ennis, Clancy, Triggs-Hodge and Copeland - Silver for Wilson, and Bronze for Armitstead and Clancy (again) - puts god's own county above Japan, South Africa and Australia! And there's the Brownlees to come in the Triathlon too! :woot:

another2 medals in the mens triathlon, amazing athletes!

woop woop well done our boys gold and bronze

Two more medals for Yorkshire :) that must put God's own county higher than 11th in the world rankings ?:clap::clap:

I think it's 5 golds, 2 silver and 3 bronze for Yorkshire, with 2 more medals guaranteed for Adams and Campbell, we're in 10th place on the medal table at the moment, just behind Germany!

Anyone else think it's insane to make the triathletes stop out on track for a time penalty?

Surely that's going to have far more of an effect than just the stationary time due to muscles cooling down/ tightening up.

Wouldn't It'd be fairer (& safer)to just add the time on at the end?

Can't say I'm impressed with that decision.

Seems a shame as the rules designed to stop riders being pushed up/ blocked into the wall isn't it?

Guess they must not have any leeway in the way the rules worded :(

Yeah, I think I remember them saying that when the Brits were relegated before. :(

The cynic in me thinks they're being as harsh as they can because the British team has been so dominant.

Let's face it, they've already tried to limit the dominance by adding all the entry limits.

Good ride from the Aus to win it though. She did look faster overall.

Terribly unjust decision for that first race. Credit to Pendleton for the way she's taken it. Incredibly sporting. I can't hide my contempt for the style of race Meares always rides, it's horrible.

hoy hoy my boy

It was a tough call over Pendleton, but the ICU did warn all nations that they were going to be very strict with the rules at these games.

Chris Hoy

Might not have been shown all over Britain, but a great piece on Look North, showing how the detractors back in the 90s over building Manchester Velodrome really have been made to eat humble pie, let hope we can say the same about London in 20 years time.

IMO they should have penalised the Aussie for ramming tactics. She's good at that sort of thing.

Something that has surprised and delighted me, this games, has been seeing the abject misery of the Team GB members who have failed!

... Let me explain!

There has been a whole change of mindset among British Olympians which I cannot remember ever hearing before in quite this form. More than one athlete who has failed to perform has been interviewed bemoaning that they let their teammates down and hadn't done their share!!

There are still a few [a couple of girl swimmers I heard interviewed] who either couldn't think beyond or possibly couldn't speak beyond "it just wasn't my day today but I've enjoyed my Olympics" but for others, there has been an interesting psychological development of how success breeds success!!

Team GB members have started to expect to be winners rather than galant losers!
