The Official Fuji X10/X20/X30/XF1/XQ1 Thread

I always found mine overexposed between 1 and 2 thirds of a stop, figured it was just a quirk.

Bright light might introduce diffraction if it stops down too much. I found anything past 5.6 started to soften so i'd often sit in A-mode to prevent that. It doea however mean you hit the iso200 and 4000th sec limits quite easily.

As for IR, I don't think the x30 will do the long exposures necessary for a filter.

Exactly what I do and yes, it appears I hit the max shutter speed pretty quickly today and would envisage the sun in Tenerife to be at least as bright as Glasgow today!

Jpg only offers iso100, but that's just a software reduction from the native 200 anyway.
I think I did look into an nd at one point but didnt bother due to a)hassle and b)funny filter size.

Yeah, those today were brought down to iso 100 and were still completely blown. Will just need to stop down further perhaps [emoji52]

Got sick of pocketing the lens cap. A pack of 10 neodymium adhesive magnets later and I have this...

So today I spent a few hours with the family in the Old Kilpatrick Hills behind Overtoun House just West of Glasgow.

Though I'm still not happy with how the X30 performs in extreme light, I'm going to persevere and see what I can come up with shooting RAW and making minor adjustments in camera at the time of shooting. Here's a few examples of what I caught today (yes it is OTT, but I do love Velvia and B&W).

Thanks :)

i reckon a smidge of CCW rotation for that one (y)

i have an RX100mk2 which undoubtedly is a great camera, IQ wise but its menus are poop and its "cold". I, like many others, love the Fuji jpegs - atleast that's the memory I have of my old XF-1 which i ( prehaps romantically ) believe i took some of my best landscapes with. So....how is the x30 ? It will be better than the XF1 but is it worth getting ? I was umming about the X100 but I think the FFL will be too restrictive for me

IMO, yes! I love my XF1s but have hardly used them since getting the X30. Don't even miss the true OVF on the earlier baby Xs - the extra info that the EVF on the X30 carries is worth far more (and the EVF doesn't get partially blocked by the lens as well as parallax errors in Macro mode being avoided.) The only downside is that it isn't pocketable in a shirt or trouser pocket. I even like that it's charged via USB rather than a separate charger, although I do also use a universal charger on it.

thanks - might have a look-see, shame the Fuji refurb don't have any stock

will have a flick through this thread to see how the image quality is. I guess they're fine ?

As long as you're interested in pictures rather than pixel-peeping....

I know - bloomin' thing, never knew what it was up to :)

I love looking through my old photos, I can usually tell what camera took what photo. Have to admit, the XF1 did take some lovely photos.

Wow, not seen this thread so busy in ages. Does this mean we dust off our baby fujis, and get off our backsides and take photos? :)

Been out with the X10 over the last week or two, varying results. Opted for RAW and ISO 800, as I wanted a fast shutter speed. Been using the X10 for ages now, and I still find it quirky. :)

Varying results because...?
Some good, some bad. Probably purely down to user error. Some photos came out a little grainy, I may have had it set to a higher ISO on some photos. I tend not to like going over ISO 800.

I've been using my X10 for "record the grandson" duties. Oddly enough, the pics seem as good as they did a few years ago when I bought it!

I rarely use the OVF now, but it justified itself when we went on a "pilgrimage" to Israel/West Bank.

Although I'm very happy with the images, from time to time I hanker after something a bit more sophisticated, like an XE-2. But then I remind myself I've got a really nice 28-112 (eqt) lens with an f/2-f/2.8 aperture, weighing only 300gm or so. Just can't buy those stats in the big-boy cameras!

Still use mine most days, I used it for doing video clips on our busy lane this afternoon.

Anyone want this? Says x10 but it fits x30 too, probably x20 as well. Just give me a few quid for postage and it's yours.

Up and out bright and early with the X10, got some nice photos and video. Noticed that the screen has a slight wobble, when composing. Does this in both video and photo mode. Must say, I have never noticed this before.

You are probably noticing the IS doing its work.

Where are you based, Jimmy? I would like that petal cap and can collect if you're local to Devon. Better put a wanted ad in the classifieds section to stay the right side of the rules. Happy to pay postage if collection is impractical.

Nod, @jimmyjamjojo only wants postage covering.

Still needs to go through the classifieds - there's a freebies section for just such deals. Wanted ad posted in the wanted area. (Checked Jimmy's classies ratio and he's well shy of any problems there in terms of the 50% rule.)

Sorry guys, didnt mean to run afoul of the rules, it was just an idle giveaway whilst I pack to move house, and figured nobody except the X10/20/30 users would be interested.

No worries, Jimmy!

IIRC, the way to do it is to post the item in the freebies (or relevant section) then post a heads up in the discussion thread.

BTW, fiver ready to go in this evening's post when Mrs Nod heads down to teach.

so Fuji refurb have the x30 back in stock - I kind of fancy one but still wonder if i've gone mad due to having the rx100

I've just tried six times to order one but can't get past the payment page! If I had hair I'd be pulling it out :)
