The Official Fuji X10/X20/X30/XF1/XQ1 Thread

Thanks all. I've discounted a monopod. I'm looking for a 'proper' size tripod really - something along the size of the Manfrotto Compact Light.

AL

There's a Manfrotto BeFree for sale in the Accessories sales section.

I like the look of those ultrapods. Are they actually any good? Can't decide on ultrpod 2 or ultrapod go. Go looks better but 2 is more expensive lol

My Ultrapod II easily copes with my Sony RX10 so is more than enough for a Fuji X?0. I've added a 25mm Arca clamp to mine plus a 25mm plate on the X30 ( and 38mm plate on the RX10) so it's faster to use. The official QR for the Ultrapod is not very nice in comparison.....

No but I have a brasher walking pole that doubles as a monopod.
I love monopods, and walking, so this sounded like a great idea. It appears they no longer sell them, however. There are some alternatives, that I'll be investigating.

Any of this, that or t'other should do. Even at £28 the official version is expensive for what it is. I think the connector does have to be micro-USB rather than 2.5mm but I don't know it's generic or Fuji specific.

Thanks for that. I don't think the last one is compatible BTW - it's an RR80 rather than RR90.

Any specific recommendation Terry?

Thanks,
AL

As well as those listed you can also focus and fire using the microphone input socket with any third party release, this is the usual sterio 2.5mm fitting not 3mm as I said earlier. This is mentioned in the X30 hand book.

So it is. I hadn't realised that - must RTFM more. That opens up a whole load of remotes intended for Pentaxes and lower-end Canons.

Interesting. Did a search after reading this and found someone on the DP Review says a Canon RS-60 E3 works perfectly, is better made than most cheap eBay copies and much cheaper than the fuji branded one. This was for an XT1 but assume would also work with the X30?. Half the price of the Fuji one on Amazon.

But there are plenty of non OEM versions of this, including the Ex-pro for £5.97 delivered. I've used Ex-pro chargers and batteries in the past and also now have an Ex-pro battery and charger for my X30. I've been happy with them so might go with them again.

Thanks for saving me over £20! :)

Something I salvaged from this afternoon's walk that never was.

"Autumn Firebrand". Love the Velvia film emulation mode at this time of year - it makes just a smidge of a difference to those autumn colours!

Darkened the background by around a stop with a brush in Lightroom - it had a distracting glare from the quite strong sunlight on wet, shiny stones and I wanted the leaf to stand out more. I also added a vignette and did a few minor tweaks to the red and orange sliders

(JPEG mode, Velvia, size large (12mp), DR100, Auto ISO (3200) - camera chose ISO 100, shutter priority mode, -33 EV on the exp comp wheel).

A couple of shots taken on on last night's caving trip.
Victory Passage in St Cuthberts Swallet is a fairly strenuous trip, so the big camera got ditched in favour of the X30 and a minimal set of lights.
I wanted to have a go at mixing two very different styles of cave photography - the classic back-lit shot with flash and lit up like a show cave with continuous lighting.
The clash of styles probably means they are going to to be a bit Marmite.
Love to hear your thoughts!

Both are 1/5s hand-held - only one of the 10 shots I took has any blur.
Can't fault the IS on the X30 - it's brilliant!

Just received an Ex-pro remote http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004AKKIT4?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

Works as it should - via the X30 microphone input socket.

I like them, however I would like to see the foreground darker in no2 ( or the light a little less frontal )
The 3/4 side light in no 1 gives far greater depth.
No chance for me though... walking under a railway arch is enough of an adventure for me.

Anyone know if there are any deals to be had on the X30, Ideally I want it for Saturday so looking to order today or tomorrow so grey route no good. Currently they are a £284 using camera pricebuster for UK models. Would have been nice to get one with the hood, case, filter bundle Wex were doing a few months ago.

Have had two X20 in the past and a XF1, so would be nice to see how the X30 performs.

Cheers Terry
The trip was tough enough I'd have been happy not taking any camera gear at all.
It was pretty much a pure caving trip; two hours at full speed trying to get back out in time for a swifty at the local caver friendly pub.
These images are a bonus - to go back there with the big camera would be a full day trip.

I'm enjoying my caving - this wasn't a photo trip; it was for the pure enjoyment :)

Like Swag's astro shots, I always look forward to your caving shots, Duncan - even if the do make me feel a little claustrophobic!

Is it just me that thinks the top one looks like Katie Price's toy box?

Some more from my recent trip to Marrakech with the X10. I used the camera in video mode - not altogether very successfully as it had trouble locking on to anything in the low light - but I've added some stills and a bit of soundtrack so you'll maybe get a bit of the atmosphere. This is in the Jemaa El Fnaa square in central Marrakech on a Friday evening.

In the evenings the square becomes crowded, with Chleuh dancing-boys (it would be against custom for girls to provide such entertainment), story-tellers (telling their tales in Berber or Arabic, to an audience of locals), magicians, and peddlers of traditional medicines. As darkness falls, the square fills with dozens of food-stalls as the number of people on the square peaks.

For video I have my X10 AF Mode set to Center, needs a steady hand and slow panning, to give focus time to catch up.

Must say i'm loving my x30. Several times now i've gone out for the day with my canon dslr and ended up putting it back in the bag in favour of the fuji!

I do like the X30 and I would have bought one, but I am keeping the X10 until it dies. When the X10 does die, I just may go Sony ;)

That is like being offered a prime steak and all the trimmings .choosing tripe and onions

WOW!!!!
The first image is an absolute stunner!
Well seen and a good capture :)

Thank you - to be honest I find having the X30 inspires me to shoot more - Love it

Another today on a family walk.... Basically straight from camera with a little contrast and darken edges a little bit

On the right of the photo, it looks like a face munching grass

Uh Oh....
Has anyone else had an X30 which wont turn off?

At the weekend I grabbed the X30 to take out with me to photograph the sunset, formatted the card as usual, but noticed the X30 wouldn't turn off.
Having a closer look there is also a faint ticking noise as I zoom which wasn't there before; it does this even with the battery out.
I suspect something has broken.

It'll be off to Fuji shortly
Thoughts and opinions much appreciated.

Oddly enough I read a post on the Fuji Forum yesterday where someone had a similar same problem. Fortunately it hasn't happened to me.
