The Official Fuji X10/X20/X30/XF1/XQ1 Thread

remember trying an X20 in Currys, couldn't find an on/off switch neither could the assistant or his lol.how do they switch on and off?

Did you sign the Fuji secrets act?

If you want to take pictures you remove the lens cap and turn the lens anti clockwise to at least the 28 mark. This positions the lens and turns on all functions.
If you only want to review pictures, You press and hold the green button on the top left of the back, for two seconds.

thats some Greater than Gatsby plugins in PSE and a bit of tweaking ( I can't remember which ones I did :( )

Quick question to all you X10 / X20 owners; do you use a UV filter with yours? If yes, do you prefer the screw directly onto the lens approach, or the hood, adapter, filter approach?

Cheers

Nick

Quick answer, Nick - no, I don't! In fact, unless I'm in adverse conditions (wind borne debris/spray) I don't use UV filters on any camera. I have a flower type lens cap on my X-20 which keeps the lens protected when the camera's off but as the camera's turned on, the extending lens pushes the petals open. Obstructs the OVF slightly but not too much.

Thanks Nod, I dont generally use them myself either, apart from if im in a situation where a hood wont really protect the front element. Im thinking about a windy day at the beach, so possible sea spray and sand.

These days, I just use my Nikon 1 AW as a beach camera - and keep the cap on until the last moment! If the wind's enough to be a problem with sandblasting the lens (6' off the ground), I'll be back in the room/car/café!

Thanks. The XF seems to suffer from long exposure noise. Maybe I should switch the LENR on to see if it helps. Not like it's imperative I don't have it on because I'm taking another shot straight away. Takes an age to process the shot and write it though anyway without LENR. o_O

Did a tour of Parliament this week, shame that you're not allowed to take pictures as it's such a beautiful building. I was able to take some quickly at the end in St Stephen's Chapel, part of the Palace of Westminster and adjoining the central lobby. Had to use a mini tripod on the base of some statues with my X10, shot with RAW and processed in Lightroom.

Hi David, Great set of images there, really like the B&W and the light trails.(y)

George.

Thanks George. I felt they'd fell apart a bit in PP if I'm honest but I s'pose they're ok. Didn't fancy taking my dslr incase I got robbed. I also turned the b&w shot into a fisheye effect for my ETC project. I'll post it in a bit but it's on my Flickr if you want a look.

My favourite is the one inside the bus station with the orange seats. I thought it contrasted well. And the light trail with flashing lights, I couldn't get across the road fast enough.

Hi David, Thanks for that I've just had a look at the fisheye effect and some of the other shots. Like them very much.

George.

Hi Martin, A couple of great shots there, the first shot is right on the money.(y)

I know that they are in the garden around the stream and pond but don't see them that often. Tricky little buggers to get pictures of as whenever I got the camera close it would shoot the other way:D

Are you getting one when it comes out? :(

Oh dear, that looks seriously good:) Tilting screen and OVF. If they've kept it the same size it'll do well.

can't see it giving a quality improvement over the X20 so I will wait to see what the X40 offers.
At the very least I had expected to split the Exposure and focus lock buttons.

As I use all the buttons on the X20.... and the X30 has less of them, it seems one would have to use the menu screens rather more, which I would not like at all.
As I hardly use the back screen for composing, the articulation while nice is not a priority for me.
