The Official Fuji X10/X20/X30/XF1/XQ1 Thread

Today I took the X10 downtown (in Porto, Portugal). All taken with the camera at waist level (as I was using the middle focusing point, I ended up missing focus in almost every picture I took this way :p)

For this type of photography, the X10 definitely beats my 40D :D

Look to me like you hit focus spot in the middle every time.
You would probably have better luck setting the camera on face detection for street casuals.

You must be very tall to have taken #1 from your waist... :D
That one was probably more of a chest level rather than waist level... Point is, I wanted to be discrete, so I wasn't looking at what I was pointing at :D

Yes, you're right. When I said I missed focus, I meant I missed focus on the main subject. I'll try to turn on face detection next time. Thanks for the tip! ;)

I don't see #1 as under exposed at all. the angled near silhouette, horizontal lines and white skittles give a very strong graphic composition.
I see that the missus is making a takeover bid. good on her.
Not sure why you went for a cross process but it works well enough.
Reminds me of the story of the wide mouthed frog.

Because I can. :D I like that kind of processing and felt it suited the shot.

The missus is a p&s warrior. Once she learned how to turn it on....

Thanks for the feedback, appreciate it. (y)

Lovely cross leg technique there, sir :o

Taken with the X10 not to show off my skill at photography, as my photography skills are really poop. Maybe more to show off my baking skills, my home made Bread Pudding I just baked. Delicious it was too, with a bit of cinnamon and nutmeg :p

Dammit. I want all of them for some strange reason. Was tempted to chop in my main canon DSLR for an x-e2 but also want an x100 and an x20. What is it about the styling that's so damn tempting? ;-)

Haha, been there mate and not quite done it. I sold my xf to get an x20 but then chickened out and bought another xf... haha. Epic fail.

The x100s would be nice for me, but with the new model coming out then it is going to be (or should be at least...) dropping in price so I'd be holding off for a bargain.

x20's are £300 in Currys atm. ;)

Yeah, the x100 (which is affordable) is so damn tempting despite being fixed wide angle. Is they were a hundred quid chapter second hand I'd have one. I suspect I should just enjoy the xf1 and try and ignore GAS!

Tbh mate I have put the gas aside and have been enjoying the stuff I have and improving my technique using it. I have been dipping my toes into the world of lighting and what settings do what so I have been a little preoccupied. I think it's the 'looking' at gear more so than the acquiring it that I'm addicted to. :D

Yes, and I'm enjoying it very much, thanks :)

I'm at the stage now where I've come full circle and am now unsure whether I even need/want an ILC. I'm half tempted to have just two fixed lens cameras - I general zoom (eg XF1) for family shots, and a fast 'prime' (eg X100s) for when I get delusions of artistry.

Haha, never realised you'd actually recieved it from me seeing as we never see any pics.
Patience is a virtue...
Also, I got a little carried away with the selective colour filter and am too embarrassed to upload my passé shots...

So it would seem i have become a bit addicted to flash... o_O

Fuji XF1
Manual Mode
f9
6.4mm
1/160
iso 100
On camera flash was dialed down 2/3's of a stop

OCF
1/16
Zoomed to 150mm hand held 45 degrees (ish!!) to camera left above her head pointing at her face
Bare flash

Hardly any ambient light. The camera was reading 1 second at f1.8 at iso 100.

Good lighting, David. Would clone out the flash reflection under the stairs....

I wanted something small and light for when a dslr isn't practical/for travelling/family stuff, so after lots of research and umming and ahhing, I've settled for an X20 :) definitely like the black/silver model over just black. I'm in the States atm, and will be in NY in a couple of weeks, I found a store close to where I'm staying which has it for $450 (£270) :) anything specific I should look out for when buying?

Just don't buy from anyone in 42nd St, they saw me coming and it cost me (not Fuji related 'twas in days of yore, an Oly Stylus aka mju 1 here)...

Hi Andrew, Obviously I don't know which store your talking about in downtown NY. But if you get a chance to head on down to B&H Photo they've got some real good deals on at the moment. And apart from that it's very good experience to visit that store.:)

George.

The store in comment was Camera Land Inc, but yeah I did see that b&h was pretty close. Will have to check it out, although on their site they don't have any x20s, but they possibly could have refurbed/ex model ones for cheap?

Heh, I did notice they have an x100s for super cheap! Must. Resist.

XF1 users - has anyone used (or tried to) a lensmate? This (unusually) sunny summer has had me wishing for a CPL...

I've freestyled a polariser in front of my XF. Don't usually bother though TBH, it's a bit of a PITA! If I still had access to a lathe, I might machine up an adaptor to slip over the front of the lens to accept screw in filters but I don't so I can't!

Hi, it’s been a while, guess what kind of establishment I have been frequenting.
(Hint they sell Tribute Ale.)

I have been pushing the little X again, has it performed ?. Itull do for me Tommy.

Just had a bit of a storm ( holy lens distortion  ). Shame I'd sent my youngest to bed as I'd like to have gotten a better view of it. The sky was amazing
