The Official Fuji X Pro 1 Thread

Thanks for the replies folks.

Just ordered the 35 & 55-200 from Wex. Anybody have any idea how long the £300.00 cash back takes to come through?

Also, I need a new bag. I would like it to hold, body, 16-50, 35 & 55-200 and possibly the 60mm. I used to have the Crumpler 6000 light delight for my DSLR which was great from a lightness point of view, but I would like a little more padding for the Fuji. Ideally I don't want to spend more than £80.00. I like the style of the Crumplers / Messenger type bags. Any recommendations greatly appreciated.

The X-M1 cash back (being handled by the same company) took just under 4 weeks, mine arrived a few days ago. I wouldn't assume it will be anything less than the quoted 28 days.

Up to a month, my cashback took a little longer.

My cash-back took quite a few weeks to come through at least 28 days, over a week longer than the free lens I claimed at the same time. Another advantage of the refurbished store if you're juggling cash-flow with purchases.

Has anyone got the 14mm 2.8? Was thinking of getting it to compliment the 35mm 1.4.

Any thoughts on this lens?

I didn't set out to, but I've just put the payment down on a Carl Zeiss 50/1.4 HFT Planar - QBM mount to use as an adapted lens with my X-Pro1

Anyone else using QBM lenses with the X-series? - I already have the 135/4 Teletessar and I find the QBM versions are generally better value than the m42 or C/Y mount versions.

I ordered an adapter from Amazon last week which arrived today and I couldn't wait to try out my Samyang 85mm f1.4 on the X-Pro1 (just a standard one with no aperture controls on it as the Samyang & Rokinon lenses I plan on using it with are manual aperture lenses anyway). I love this lens on my Canon DSLRs but find it even easier to use on the XP1 using the EVF. As I don't have any jobs on until the weekend, I used one of my usual models (aka Daughter number 1) once she got home from school (doesn't she look happy? lol)

I just wondered, if anyone is using any off TTL flash via a third party cable as Fuji don't appear to make one. Anyone using non TTL flash via the PC socket ?

I've used the ex 20 via a canon ttl cable (and scratched my hotshoe:mad:) and also used a strobe via the pc. Both work as they should.

Quick question...

What form does Fuji's cashback come in? I'm not expecting a wad of tenners! Is it a cheque or a prepaid credit/debit card?

Cheque.

Have a look at a Think Tank Retrospective 7, I think you would not go far wrong with one of those and you might just drop on a good one on ebay etc

Samyang 8mm FTW.

Thanks for the reply Jonathan. :)

Is the Samyang really that good. I had discounted initially for 2 reasons, the first was it may be too wide and the 2nd was it may not be anywhere near the Fuji or Zeiss lenses. At that price the Samyang may be great in addition to one of the others. ;)
I have never owned a lens this wide and wondered how much use it would get.

Visiting this thread could seriously damage my bank account.. :(

I've just bought a Retrospective 7, it comfortably holds X-Pro1, 35mm, 18mm, 60mm, 55-200mm, small flash, spare batteries, memory cards, 7" tablet.. and enough room left-over so that I know it will work nicely as a day-bag with guidebooks, maps, light jacket, etc. I'm going to do the double-ended rear cap trick (when the caps come through from Ebay) and that will make even better use of the space in the bag.

If you don't insist on pine stone, the other two colours are a) available in-stock with most sellers, and b) up to 1/3rd cheaper.

Got home from work today and my free 35mm had arrived from Fuji.
Only took 9 days from posting the form. Praying for some decent weather over the next few days so I can have a play. Will be bag hunting soon as well.

Is it noisy?

Personally I like it a lot - though you have to realise that not only is it VERY wide, it's also a fisheye so you get some fun distortion. I'll dig out some of my holiday snaps on it later, in the meantime it's another excuse to share this one....

BTW shame you just missed @antihero 's 8mm in the classified. That was a bargain ;)

Also check out the Domke range. The small one (F5XB) happily holds a Fuji kit - either one body and 2 - 3 spare lenses or 2 bodies with lenses on.

It's been a strange month for me... My Better Half thinks I'm going through a mid-life crisis!

In the past two months I've bought a French car (something I said I'd never do); I've switched from Canon to Nikon (something else I said I'd never do) and now I've gone and bought an X-Pro 1! :D

So what are you doing next month ?

I'm trying to decide whether or not to send my wife's new 35mm back to Fuji due to the noise it makes (or the noise I perceive it to make!)
I reproduced this noise by repeatedly pressing the green review button on the back of my X Pro 1. It is made by the aperture blades as they are resetting. It makes the same noise when you half press the shutter button to AF and as well as the noise, there is also a slight wobble or jerk. If you click on the link below it will take you to the sound file. Can you let me know if this noise is typical of other 35's? I tried it out at the back of a Church the other day and the whole congregation turned around when I took a shot  :$

Yes, that's what mine does (though TBH I'd never really thought anything of it).

It's the focus mechanism racking. When you press the preview button it (obviously) goes to preview and moves the lens to a "rest" position. Press it again and it gets ready to shoot - it returns the lens to the last focus point and then it steps the iris. IMO the iris makes a much quieter noise than the focus. You can make the noise a lot longer/louder by engaging the macro function ;) How much noise depends on where it was last focused.

My 18mm makes a similar though different noise.

Just been looking at your recommendations, and they both look great, thanks. I have also seen some Tenba & Vanguard messenger bags, anyone had any experience with either of these?

My 35 & 55-200 didn't turn up until 15.40hrs, I was beginning to think Parcelforce had forgotten about me. Quick first impressions, the zoom is almost silent compared to the 35. Also, the 35 hood has some movements as mentioned earlier in thread. Hope its fine tomorrow so I can try them both out.

I will also sell my M42 lenses and Fuji adapter now, as I am where I want to be with my kit.

Quick snap shot with 55-200, baring my shoulder disabilities this seems a very sharp photo for me handheld. Looks promising.:D

I looked at both the Vanguard and Tenba before opting for the TT 7, I wanted a bag for my travels that was unassuming and both the aforementioned look a bit too professional for me the TT just works for me, if you need to check them out I suggest ordering from Amazon and sending them back if you don't like them, they even pay for return postage! But I would never do that! :exit:

Thanks for the Amazon tip ;)

I will have to wait until next week to order, Clare is off now for the rest of week and our PC is in living room. They are now £126.00 on Amazon and I initially told her I was going to spend £80.00. With me buying the 35 & 55-200 yesterday I don't want to push her to much. I will be spending more on bags than her!

Simon, if you're going to be getting the cashback for buying the 2 lenses, maybe you could use that as a bargaining point? Not trying to get you into trouble or spending your money, just offering a possible excuse/justification!

So how useful is the 14mm? By that I mean its only 4mm wider than the 18mm (6mm wider in FF terms). I have owned the sigma 10-20 (15-30mm equiv) and the tamron 17-35. Both were fine but I do like fixed aperture lenses. I doubt it but are there images out there showing the same image at different lengths to see what the actual differences are? At times I could do with wider than I have (24-70 on D700) but don't really know how much i would use it. Looking back at images i took i would mainly use it on days out (like trips to london, out with kids) and sometimes for the odd landscape i may do.

14mm - 90.8 degrees angle of view
18mm - 76.5 degrees angle of view

That's a substantial difference, 4mm at the wide end is a lot more significant than if we were discussing telephotos.

Hi Mike, Thanks for the above link, very interesting. I think I'll hang on for the 10-24mm to see what it has to offer before committing. Not too long to wait now.

The differences in the two lenses can be found HERE
This is also very useful to determine field of view HERE

Thanks - very useful, and it may save me some money!!! There does not seem to be a huge difference imo to the 18 and 14, especially as it will be a £325 or so cost to change. I guess I will see how i get on with 18mm and go from there.

:plusone: To all comments. I love wide angles and that's probably why I resisted CSCs for so long but I reckon a 10mm should be wide enough for me - especially when the weight's taken into account when compared to a 12-24 Sigma on a D700! Not sure when the 10-24 is likely to be introduced or how much it's likely to be but I think I will suffer from severe GAS when it's available. Luckily I can afford the cure!
