The Official Fuji X Pro 1 Thread

This one here , like the majority theres a little play in it but at that price you cant complain.

I've had the x-pro for about a month now, absolutely love it, I found the AF in low light actually better before the latest firmware update. I've actually found it a bit of a steep learning curve but it's been fun. Anyway here are a few shots.

These are great Pix of Liverpool. Just a question. Are they JPEG or RAW. I read somewhere that lightroom has trouble with RAW from this camera or is that now an out of date comment?

They're from raw files. Without repeating all of what I wrote in the blog post, basically, I think they process sufficiently well enough in LR4 for me to continue to use them.

Thank you for the link. I take it, it does not work with Nikon G lenses?

No, but the same company sell a G adaptor as well.

I took a quick shot through the window of Orion tonight, I cant get out at all so it was just a tiny manfrotto modo tripod balanced on the commode beside the bed.

Not to bad given the limited view and shooting through double glazing.

ISO 400 6 seconds @ F7.1

well i cant see an xe1 owners thread so i'll post in here :)

Ive just got one off the refurb site and its on the way. While i save up for a lens i want to use one or two of my nikon lenses on it. I can see there are a plethora of nikon adaptors out there, do any give auto focus? Manual isnt a huge problem, but i wouldnt mind using the 50mm 1.8 and maybe pick up a cheap 55-200 kit lens to use with it since i know how sharp and light that is.

So if anyone has gone down this route, is there much difference in adaptors?

Just off subject for abit.

Why is the 60mm a 2.4, if it was a 1.4 I would probably get another x-pro1.

I really enjoyed the IQ I got from the 35mm but just found it to wide.

My fav all time lens seems to be 85mm 1.4's :)

because it is a macro lens ;)

Could this and the X-E1 thread be merged into a X - Trans thread? Might make it a bit more active, I have an x-e1 and am watching both threads with interest.

Bought the 60mm macro from Fuji refurbed but it needs to go back, hopefully be fixed quickly, the IQ is brilliant from this ens snd it has enough macro ability to satsfy my flora and fauna interest....

do they do refurb lenses on their own? I only found the link to the refurb cameras.

Yes I was gonna get the 60mm too but opted for the 35mm for now.
If you do a search in the store it would come up with a refurb one if there is one!

Yes Ash, I got one recently, no problems at all so far with my 60mm, I would certainly buy from the refurb store again

It was an odd problem with mine. When i attached it to the camera it would only allow program mode at f2.4, all other apertures worked perfectly. After a few hours it would allow f2.4 to be used but would momentarily show P in the viewfinder before showing 2.4.

Fuji have been great, a prepaid bag arrived the day after I contacted them and I received an email when it arrived on Friday. Hopefully should be sorted soon.

Hi all

Have read a few times about discount codes being applied to purchases from the Fuji Refurb Shop. Could anyone please advise me on how this works and where the codes come from ? Are any currently valid ?

I fancy a Fuji as a backup to my Canon gear and the odd few% discount might just make something affordable.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Ha, I think you'll find you'll be using the canon gear as a backup to the Fuji. Then sell the canon cos you won't go back. Has happened to many other Canon togs in the last year

Hi Steve

You may be right but my current walkabout gear of choice is a 5D3 with non-reporting x2TC onboard connected to a 500f4ISL for wildlife. Do Fuji make lenses with this focal length ? Honestly do not know.

I got my daughter an x10 for her to play with and am quite impressed hence my interest in the xpro.

Doubt the xpro will replace the Canon gear though unless Fuji can offer up some serious focal length lenses.

At the other end can I ask what you Fuji guys do for pano/landscape shots ? AS far as I can see there are no X mount lenses which go wider than about 27-28mm (35mm equivalent) ?

Honestly, I'm not trolling, just wondering whether you resort to photostitching and is this done in-body ?

try PAYPAL12 at checkout in the discounts code box and pay via paypal, it worked for me a few weeks ago

Cheers for the linky Steve

Looks like a v.nice collection of lenses on the way. The 10-14 looks v.v.interesting.

Thanks also for the discount code Ian, I fully appreciate it may/may not work but might give it a go if the refurb shop gets any gear in anytime soon. I noticed the EX1 plus zoom lens literally flew out of the shop late last week. I uhhhhhmed and ahhhhhd over this for about 10 minutes and they were gone by the time I logged back in again !

Best wishes to both

Gary

About to make the step of selling all my Canon gear to buy the X-E1. With three small children I am after something smaller and more 'go to' and wife friendly. Anyone care to advice me otherwise? I was looking at coupling the body with the XF35mm f/1.4 R. Many Thanks ~

well i got my nikon lens adapter through today and for anyone interested heres a few shots of it.

It was the Kipon nikon G-FX adaptor, it has an aperture ring that lets you control the aperture of lenses without manual apeture control.

Essentially its just a little pickup inside the ring that butts up against the aperture slider on the lens, you rotate the ring on the adapter and it will open and close the lens. There is no gearing in the adapter so you only have about 1cm of movement to cover the entire aperture range!

You can see the little pickup here

Works fine on all lenses, here with a sensible 50mm 1.8D

And a not so sensible 16-35 f4

The only thing ive noticed so far is ISO doesnt really seem to affect it all that much, i went from 200 up to max and didnt see a lot of exposure change. Hopefully thats just a characteristic of the adpater and not a broken camera!

I did similar, sold the canon gear and bought a refurb'd X-Pro 1 + 60mm (I wanted the 60mm for portraits).

It sounds like a good plan, I prefer the X-Pro as I wanted an optical viewfinder as well as the EVF but which ever you go for, get the grip as well.. it makes a world of difference to the handling.

I found Manual exposure weird with the X-Pro & my nikon adaptor, but for some odd reason aperture priority worked fine, manual should too but for some reason it didnt meter correctly.

I've downloaded LR4.4 and can immediately see a big difference, admittedly I don't have lots of images with small foliage detail (only had an X-E1 for a month so little chance to get some), but the ones I did see an issue with are totally changed. Looks promising to me and removes the one issue I had with the Fuji system....

At last the cloud cleared a little, so had a go at the moon.

Seeing was terrible and made worse by the heat haze coming off the roofs the moon was above as well as trying to shoot through double glazing at night !

I used a canon t mount and 2" nosepiece with a light blue filter, canon -X mount adaptor, and a 2" extension all placed at prime focus on a cheap little Apogee wide field refractor, all on an old photo tripod.

I tried saturn but it was very hard to see tonight, just a fuzzy elipse.

Just back from Focus on Imaging and I treated myself.

One of the great things about the X-Pro is the small size and weight. I would never have considered one of these before with a DSLR kit but had a good 20 minutes hands on with the camera mounted and was sold. No excuses for not getting perfect shots in the mountains this year as it's smaller and lighter than a bottle of water.

17-55, 60mm 2.4 or wait for the 56mm 1.4? Portrait lens dilemma

Phil - Nice one, cant wait to see your shots when you get out there.

Steve - I agree with Will, if you've no burgeoning desire to shoot some macro then hang fire and wait for the 1.4.
I think you've got the 35mm if I remember correctly so you can get in closer to do some for now but the 18-55 wouldn't even make it on my short list for portraits, the 60mm is good, very sharp but the 1.4 I think will be better

wouldn't DOF be a little thin on the 56/1.4 for a portrait or do you think the bokeh will be nicer than the 60mm?

I love using an 85mm f/1.4 wide open on full frame for portraits. Although the 56mm will offer a similar field of view after the crop factor's been taken into account, the depth of focus will be greater also.

So, for me, the depth of field won't be too thin.

If the 56mm 1.4 is as good as the 35mm then I'll be a happy man but my 'benchmark' photographer Damien Lovegrove swears by his 60mm macro. It would be handy for the rings at weddings!
Here's one from the 35mm today, It's a close as I am happy getting unless I want distortion
