The Official Fuji X Pro 1 Thread

Yes, serial numbers start with the digit that indicates the year of manufacture. (The second digit indicates which quarter of the year)

Mine is 5 so they are definately still making them (or were until very recently)

@allanm

I use the original OEM grip on mine, the one you have to take off to get to the battery/card

I really like it, it makes it easier to grip the body, and for me at least, makes the thumb sit more comfortably on the back.

Of course we all have different hands, and different ways of holding the camera... Also, I managed to break the knuckle/little finger of my right hand in 3 places falling off a motorbike (many, many yrs ago) and it doesn't have a great of strength and limited movement (tmi?) so FOR ME I'm always glad of some extra grip in a camera body... Obv, YMMV and your hand probably works properly!

HTH?

Rather puts the kibosh on the argument that they are firing them out cheap to get rid of an X-Pro mountain.

I have been thinking about the up coming Xpro 2 but I used to have the original Xpro1 and to be honest it was perfectly suited to all my photography.
Don't know why I sold it now.
I am coming round to the idea that an Xpro1 will be fine?

Maybe...

Perhaps there was a mountain of XP parts that needed assembling into cameras and selling.

Perhaps Fuji had a supply agreement with their component suppliers, that stipulated they'd buy X number of units over X of years, and the inaugural production run took ages to sell, and Fuji wanted to drop it, but contractually they couldn't

Who knows.

One thing for sure though... It took Fuji over 2 years to sell all the XP1s they built in 2012

If wifi, gps, focus tracking AF, super fast OS, lightening fast AF, super sharp and non-laggy EVF, electronic shutter, loads of Fn buttons are not important to you, and APSC is good for you, then you could do far worse IMO.

The XP1 and the 3 original primes is my go to these days. They all fit in a pretty small bag too! (Unlike some of Fuji's newer lenses)

I had one of those the first time I had the XP1. It's a good product, IMO shames the cost of the OEM options.

I PERSONALLY prefer the OEM one because the grip suits my hand shape better.

I think its funny when reviewers mark cameras down for not having lightning fast AF and a touch screen. I've had touch screen cameras and never use the touch screen, I even have a touch screen dash cam, I mean, whats the point? Then they brought out touch screen tv's. I had a touch screen tv remote too. Absolute rubbish. But, I suppose with a touch screen tv you don't need a remote...........
First priority for me is a good quality viewfinder, I hate looking at a screen to compose a shot, you just look like a tourist with a camera phone. MY old XPro1 was fast enough at focusing, I even got shots of an owl in flight through the woods near our house at dusk using a 55-200 lens. Fast enough for me.
I still have a dslr when I need something faster, but I love the images from my Fuji's, nothing else comes close.

It's proving to be ideal for me at the moment as it has arca swiss style plate built in aswell and give access to the required doors battery and sd card but I appreciate what is good for one person isn't for another :)

I also picked up a Hotshoe thumb rest from ebay but not sure its now needed in my case as Grip/plate/bracket appears to do the job for me.
All images with XT10 and xf 18mm f2.0 this is fast becoming a favourite lens :)

Agree I hate the touch screen on the Canon m but you can switch it off unlike my phone :(
Just a another fad to sell more cameras I guess ?

My thoughts exactly.

I assume there's a market for all that stufff (or at least a cottage industry) as it keeps appearing on cameras!

Anyone wanting all that jazz isn't best suited for the XP1 but for those that just want a good little camera, bereft of gimickery and kissed with great IQ won't go far wrong IMO

And still the only hybrid OVF/EVF mirrorless ILC game in town!

X-trans rendering isn't to everyone's taste and not everyone gets on with the raw output, and that's 100% fair enough and for them, there's other cameras!

That's just the same as the L bracket I used to have!

Apologies for what will sound like a scare mongering post.... But PERSONALLY I've never seen the wisdom in attaching approx. 2.5cm of leverage to a hot shoe...

Plus my thumb isn't that far over when I hold the camera!

Loads of people have used them without drama, so I don't think there's a real problem... It just doesn't sit right with my mechanical sympathy!

I had a thumb rest on my X100t, well, I didn't because I didn't like it. I think they were originally designed to make your camera look like it has a winder, anyway, I found my thumb just didn't feel comfortable sticking up. I know they are good for one handed use though.

Ditto it was recommended to me by a friend as with arthritis in my hands and fingers I really didn't feel i had a good grip on the camera :( as its turned out to be something that will probably sit in a drawer or bag.

Is there something wrong with the forum, I posted an image here this morning and its gone....

I linked a flickr pic here earlier and it's still here, but I haven't tried an upload!

Edit:

Will do a test upload (from my ipad, and yes taken with a XP1 ;))

I'll try again then.....hang on.....

Here we go ( I hope) took this a couple of years ago with my first XP1. I think it had a 55-200 lens fitted.
Bit of sunshine for everybody..........Sunflowers.jpg

So, my newly purchased used X-Pro1 turned up this morning, complete with 3 genuine batteries and oem hand grip.
All in fantastic condition, not a mark on any of it. can't wait for the rain to stop so I can take it out

:)

Nice one
Where did you get yours from?

Ebay. I was the first and only bidder, couldn't believe it when the time ran out and no one else had bid. It was a very good price, especially with the extras. Serial no starts 43 so, its just over a year old, looks like new though.
Happy as Mr Happy, the happiest man in Happytown........

Great stuff hope you like it!

Congrats, looking forward to seeing some of your shots.

Sounds like you scored a deal and got a late model one, there's not any physical different to the original ones, but the newer models come with more rounded triangular strap clips, which stops the lugs wearing out!

Edit: a teeny bit cyber stalky.... But I just searched ebay sold items and if you scored the one from Plymoth, then you did get a good deal, about £30 less than the others and you got the grip (same one I have btw) and the 3 batts.

It was from Sutton Coldfield, 3 Fuji batteries and Fuji grip ( £225)
Last one I had was a refurb from Fuji, I sent it back for repair because the OVF focus point was off and the lugs were showing signs of wear. It came back working perfectly and they had modified the strap lugs, they had steel inserts in them to stop them wearing away
I thought about looking for a 35mm lens but got tempted by an 18-135. I'll keep the 18-55 on the XP and use the other lens on my XT1.
I'll have to save a bit for the 35 now.

My first XP1 ended getting new lugs (well its a whole new top plate) under warranty, its a shame they didn't include the bushed lug top plate in the 14 & 15 builds...

My 18-55 lives on my XT1 and the 35 is seldom off the XP!

Adam, how do you rate the 35? It must be good if you keep it on the xp

The 35mm f1.4 Fujinon is a fantastic lens.
Sharp as a sharp thing and renders beautifully.

I don't need to reply, the two posters that already have used exactly the words I would!

I HATE the XP1 M9 comparisons.... But FWIW... IMO The 35 f1.4 is Fuji's 50mm summicron.

It's not for pixel peepers in the farthest reaches of the corners, according to reviewers... But the contrast, pop, colour, rendering (the stuff that's important to photogs, not reviewers,) just have a bit of magic to them. Iirc.... It's not an optically corrected lens either (unlike the new 35)

Fwiw, the shot I posted above is with the 35... Maybe its a dull shot, badly framed, but look at the colour contrast pop detail of the graffiti and how the lens can combine subject isoloation with DOF.

Also, that 35 (& 18/60) were made for the XP1 literally, hand in hand designed together, like the 23 on the X100x or the 35 on the RX1, those 3 original primes are exactly designed around the XP1 sensor, and of the 3 primes, the 35 is by far the most charming! Imo / ymmv

EDIT:

I'm not talking about the shot I posted above (although that's also the 35) but I got confused... I just got up!!

This shot I mean! (posted elsewhere on here on the same day)

Despite having the much more complete XT-1, I still love my X-Pro1 and don't think I'll ever sell it. In fact, it's got me thinking I may by an original X100 if I can find one at the right price. There's just something about the imperfection of not being fast and precise and making you slow down to get the image I love about it.

Well my last two lens purchases were the 35mm f1.4 & the 90mm f2.0 but so far I haven't fell in love with the 35mm f1.4.
Which is a bit of a surprise tbh as I have always had a 50mm of some description on full frame cameras that I have owned.
I find the 18mm f2.0 to be my go to lens it really is a little gem:) And I'm enjoying the 27mm f2.8 as it's a good inbetweeny for the 23mm=35mm and the 35mm=50mm.
I guessing time will tell if I will use the 35mm f1.4. For me the two lens that came with my Xpro1 were a perfect package :)

I completely agree about what you say.
I'm finding it really enjoyable it does slow you down a little, and makes me think more about the image I'm taking,a bit like the film days with my first camera and film.
I'm finding it a real joy to use :)
Love these two winter shots especially the 2nd one !

I had a Leica X1 when they first came out. It was so slow to af and when I sold it, I bought a new X100. X100 a/f was like lightning compared to the X1, but every X1 image had something about it that told you it was taken with a Leica lens. The X100 images were pretty spectacular too and very like the X1. Maybe, as you say, it's the fact you slow down and have time to think about composition more instead of just firing off a shot.
You've got me thinking now, should I complete my Fuji lineup with an original X100.......

Oh well that little trip down memory lane prompted me to dig out the Xpro 1 with my fave 18mm f2.0 to snap a pic of my first camera:)
jpg straight out of camera shakes and all :( should have used a tripod :runaway:
