I've been thinking about gettting a a compact camera, this would fit the bill quite nicely. Love the look and the lens sounds great. Be nice to read some reviews soon.
Not nearly as sexy as in a DB4 or DB5!

You will probably have to wait a while as it's not due until early 2011. I'm not sure how early people get the pre production models for review but it will be interesting how it compares with the Leica X1.I've been thinking about getting a a compact camera, this would fit the bill quite nicely. It's a lovely looking thing that conjures up all sorts of romantic notions, but why any sad retro geek should actually want to part with serious money to own one is a bit lost on me.
It's not a very useful picture taking machine is it? Any more than a DB4 is a very good way of getting around, but at least you might get laid with a DB4![]()
So you don't 'get' it? I am sure people who are not sad, retro geeks will and be happy with it as a picture taking machine. You make it sound as if it will burst into flames every time you press the shutter button!
LOL No I think I do get it. It's a lovely thing!
What I don't get is all those people who apparently know a bit about photography and have the Full Monty DSLR outfit, can suddenly be pursuaded that all you need is a fixed lens compact, and that foot zoom is the answer to everything. They want to believe it in moments of romantic delusion, but it's not true. Which is why nobody has used cameras like that since the 1950s.
It's a sexy little pice of retro chic. But very limited as a camera.
It's a lot more modern than that. Retro chic innit? The problem with this camera is that you will have to buy a 60's E-Type Jaguar so you can look at the camera while it is sitting on the leather passenger seat. How sexy is that!!
Test the market with a camera that works. If it sells there is probably a chance others will jump in and develop the idea. Why fixed lens???
Voigtlander, are you listening? That's just plain daft. If it came with a a nice set, like 21mm, 45mm and a 90 or 105mm I'd be getting in the queue now.

Of course Fuji will be happy to sell you a X200 with interchangeable lenses 18 months down the line, it's how they stay in business!Gives `em a chance to decide whose mount to use and sell again to the the early adopters as well as those who wouldn't jump at a non-interchangeable lens design.
i dont really get the anti fixed lens argument. if it came with interchangeable lens then that would take away one of the big selling points, the portability, people would just end up with another camera bag full of lens. this is surely design to be a slip in the pocket high quality compact, not full system.
It's exactly what I'd want from a digital camera ... except for the fixed lens and probably the price!
This site reckons around $1200.

So convert that to UK pounds and you get roughly £820 which is what I estimatesSO give it a few months in the shops and the price may fall a bit which would be nice.
Let's hope it's not that after a few months otherwise I will have to spin the wife the gear buying yarn of the year!
Of course it will be very expensive. Posing always is.
It's probably not cheap to make, especially in small numbers, and then there is the pose tax on top.
Retro in everything but price if that is correct (and ¥150,000 currently is about £1100). Shame.Plus Vat etc, in reality it'll be nearer £1100.....
This is a 'compact'.I'm sure it will come as a shock to those that only know them from the compact market.
This is a 'compact'.![]()
what I meant was people that know fuji only for the finepix cameras are not going to know that they are also behind some of the finest medium and large format kit ever made. Including all the lenses for the Hassy H series cameras. You and I know this is likely to be a quality piece of kit. I suspect it will well be 'worth' the money they are asking for it too (even though I will be waiting and see how it compares with whatever else is available when it is launched!) But for the 'older' photographer or those that may have 'given up' or those who are just looking for a simpler camera than one that steers by the stars and predicts earthquakes - are going to be somewhat disappointed when they see the price.what I meant was people that know fuji only for the finepix cameras are not going to know that they are also behind some of the finest medium and large format kit ever made. Poser tax? If it was a leica I would understand but it's not. I doubt anyone but other togs would recognise it and I don't hang around with other togs that much. I am not sure why you seem to be spoiling for a fight here.
Sorry Jim, I'm not spoiling for anything.
When I say pose I mean it's form over function, styling before shooting. Which is okay I guess, and it pulls off that trick pretty well. I'd be lying if I said I didn't find it more than a little alluring![]()
Frankly I would say it is 'reassuringly expensive'.
Edit: the optical-electronic viewfinder sounds fantastic![]()
Everything is 'styled' though. When I say pose I mean it's form over function, styling before shooting. Which is okay I guess, and it pulls off that trick pretty well.
Most of my life, my walk around camera has had a fixed focal length. From Rolleiflex to Olympus XA. and everything in between. I have always also had other Professional Kit for work, but rarely took it out and about.
This looks a fine camera. I expect they will bring out a big brother with interchangeable lenses. They could use the EVF option.
