A nice looking camera but I can't see that fixed focal length appealing to many people other than the ones with cash to burn.
I don't have cash to burn but it massively appeals to me, thats a simply stunning camera!
I's also expect a wide and telephoto accessory to be available to give some flexibility with the lens.
What about it appeals to you? Fuji used to do a 0.8ish wide angle converter and a 1.7 teleconverter that you could fit onto lenses but they never did good things image quality.
The styling is simply stunning, it's compact and has an APS-C size sensor what about it wouldn't appeal. To me it looks like the digital rangefinder lots have people have been waiting for and if the sensor lives up to some of Fuji's previous efforts this could be simply the best street camera on the market.
Modern convertors don't have quite the terrible reputation of old and I'm sure if done well and with conservative power that fuji could produce something that doesn't decimate image quality on such a big sensor.
I agree it looks nice and APS-C might be nice but I'll tell you what doesn't appeal is that fixed wide angle lens. Stick a TC on the front and it won't be quite as compact any more. I think something like a Pen or a GF has got to be more useful than this, even if they're not as pretty to look at (which is the main reason to buy any camera).
Learn to manual zoom then! I think the point is that it harks back to the superb fixed focal length range finders of film days. My dad has recently dug out his Konika and the IQ is just astounding but you just have to think differently when using it. If I get one I will use it without anything else and just position myself correctly. I like the fact that you can't change lenses and therefore don't feel obliged to carry round extra ones. I guess it will just not appeal to some people!
Your right lots of people won't get the fixed focal length so would be better of with the Pen or the GF, personally I love a single fixed focal length and approximately 35mm is quite a nice usefull one I wouldn't want any convertors. Forces you too think about the shot and your positioning and not to worry about gear which is a blessing and Fuji's sensors have in the past been something pretty special which I would love to see continue.
If it is a reasonable sales success I'd expect an interchangeable lens version to follow.
You're joking right? As if walking backwards and forwards is the answer to everything. The other side effect of fixed focal length apart from the need to move for your framing is the distorting effects of focal length combined with the camera to subject distance. If it was just a case of moving backwards and forwards then why do we bother with zooms at all, why don't we just all use a 35mm (FF equivalent FOV)? Because frame filling portrait would look like crap is why. 35mm might be fine for certain applications but it's not the answer to everything and neither is walking back and forth.
It's not just about leg work, or lack of it Andy. As you know different lenses offer mire than a different field of view. I'm glad that most folks in this thread will consider this camera a great buy.... BUT how many will actually get one? Sigma do something very similar, even has a full frame sensor and is said be fantastic. I've never actually seen one or even a post on here from someone who has one.
Fuji are probably the best lens makers on the planet right now, how fab would it be to see that talent come to the small camera market.
IMO, if they're going to do that then stick something with and equivalent to 50mm FF on there.
I think you are missing the point of this camera completely and I wasn't joking. Its not a full DSLR kit replacer, its the small but high quality camera you sling in your bag or jacket when you don't want to carry everything else. I recognise its not as versatile as a bag full of lenses, or even a single zoom lens but its not the point, is it? If you don't see the use for the camera then why rubbish it? Its obviously not for you!
The 'using your legs' bit was a bit daft as in some cases it is impossible to get near or away from the subject you are trying to take a pic of.
Horses for courses etc...
What Sigma camera with FF sensor are you talking about? If it's the SP1 or SP2 then they are APS-C sensors, not FF. If I'm wrong then you are free to poke me in the eye!![]()

There's a lot of discussion on http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/forum.asp?forum=1000 if you don't mind the, rather more robust, exchanges on dpreview.
I look the look of it, but I think it's going to be expensive and will probably be a niche camera. It's certainly not going to impact sales of the big zoom, pocket, point and shoot!
My god that place is full of brain dead idiots! Makes me glad TP exists!
The problem with this camera is that you will have to buy a 60's E-Type Jaguar so you can look at the camera while it is sitting on the leather passenger seat. How sexy is that!!
