The iOS 6 Thread

Are the maps for over there really that bad? Over here they're clear and simple and far better than the google maps interface?

Yeah, well i updated, and 2 friends did. One doesn't even have maps showing when he opens the App. One just shows Reading where we live as a Giant Pixel. But it works great for me :)

The maps themselves are pretty good around my area, I haven't found any problems with the mapping and the satnav part is much better than the older google version.

The problems really lie with the horribly inadequate satellite mapping and non existence of street view. It looks like Apple used 10 year old satellite imaging at half the resolution of Google.

My issue with the maps is the route planning. On the old version you could get the walking time, ideal for our New York holiday next week. The new one only seems to have driving time

Got my iPad 2 weeks before iOS6 came out :D

Many hours have been happily wasted playing around with it and getting used to things. The family had great fun on maps looking at all the old houses they used to have and looking at the pics of what they look like now. Mrs Z was quite upset that the trees she planted at her old house have been pulled up.

I am grateful that the iPad has NOT automatically updated itself to iOS6 - I think I would have gone off it quite quickly by the sound of how things are going.

Re the last up date - was it 5.0 then 5.1 then 5.1.1 and sorting out all the bugs in each step?

Perhaps wait out until version 6.x??

Yes! The satellite version anyway.

The only issue and it is minor that I'm seeing with my IPad 2 is when I switch it on and hit to go on the Internet, it takes a few seconds longer to find my wifi connection.i get a screen saying I need to connect to a wifi connection then t disappears and I eat connected- never had this until I installed IOS6

Perhaps reset your network settings, that isn't normal, none of my ios6 devices do that.

On from standby or powered off?

All of Gloucester looks like that. It's practically useless.

I know it's a disgrace. Completely unusable.

I've noticed today my entire iPad is getting really buggy, and things keep crashing.
Think I might go back to ios5, this is getting infuriating.

Only does it from being powered off when I power on again. I'm only talking 15 secs or so more where as it would be ready straight away with IOS 5

Might have just changed the startup order or something, wouldn't worry about it. Not like iPads spend much time off.

Reading all your feedback I'm going to hold off a little longer before I upgrade my iPhone4. The iPad is a v1 so can't go to iOS6.

IT at my work place had to update software on all access points and make update to whole WiFi after 6 was released as no one was able to connect to network.

I can ask tomorrow if I don't forget;)

Must admit I wish I had read all the iOS6 stuff before our recent upgrades

Sold iPad1 to get iPad3, I was stunned by the "lack Of" Quality in the maps, I use it when out and about a lot (Or at least I used to), its now unusable, and as the iPad3 installed it straight away after I bought it and plugged it in, I don't think there is anyway back to an older version, unless some wise soul here can advise.

Anyone got any charging issues since updating? When I plug in I get this 'Accessory isn't supported' Taken 8hrs to charge to 10%. Tried various chargers [Apple]....

Tried x2 wall chargers, looked this morning and there are quite a few posts on the Apple support forums....

All really - iPads, iphones all types. Seems pretty random - the worst kind!:)

All mine are fine :-) but maybe that's just my luck? My maps are fine too!

I've got the iPhone 4...
The above post is what I've found out on the Apple forums - effects all devices but pretty random

You must live in the 10% of the country they mapped when it was not cloudy, or they had access to colour film :D

I don't use the satellite maps :-D I also live in Australia :-D vast majority of my country is sunny

Out if interest do you know what APs?

Trapeze.

now under name Juniper like switches etc.

new iOS, does not accept SSL over WiFi!!!! our network always was forcing our own SSL certificate to be accepted and iOS 6 does not take it. So we have it off for now...

so it wasnt update on software, just temporary fix...
one of the IT guys here is fuming about new iOS :)

Well my iPhone 4S battery has suddenly become a joke. I am now going from 100% to zero in 4 hours. I suspect an App update following the change to iOS 6 is to blame.

I'm loving the iPhone 5 battery, they seem to have nailed battery management with the new hardware.

7% drain in just under 15 hours, with 3 hours of use.

Impressive! It would be even better if you turned bluetooth off

you must have the brightness turned down pretty low to get that usage
i am down to 65% after nearly 3 hours use and 10 hours stanby

Not necessarily. My screen brightness is about 75% and my battery is sitting at 55% currently after 2h 24m usage and 2 days 9 hours of standby
