The great TP election thread

It's the `creeping` up, the odd penny at a time, that seems to go unnoticed by most folk. (not by me though)
The other thing that makes it less noticeable & has peed me off since they started doing it, is quoting price per litre. ......... it's around £5.30 a gallon!

with you 100% on that, we as a nation just don't complian enough, its the only thing I think that the French could teach us ;)

Again, I agree, IIRC it was around the time it started to hit £1 a gallon that its was then suddenly 20 odd pence per litre and every one went "WOW" that's cheap.

And of course the other thing that really bugs me is the 0.9p thats added to the price, I thought that it was made illegal to sell something with a value than cannot be paid for in legal tender.

just looked up the chart and apparently it was 60.5p in new money .......... but I remember it in old money and I thought it was 4 shillings and 6 pence, (I remember getting 4 gallons for £1) ...... 240 pence to £1 = 54 old pence = 22.5 new pence ....... so not sure how the chart works

Interesting chart, Bill, but I agree it doesn't seem that accurate, I used to get a little change from £1 & 3 gallons,
apparently thats not "possible" according the the chart either ;)

I am going to be honest here and say I do not vote as I really think it is all fixed anyway all parties are corrupt and liars and only out for there own benefits.

I know I used to get change from a quid when putting 2 gallons in.
Think cigs were around 25p & beer was around 15p.

Re decimalisation. pre there were 240 pennies to the £ ................ after, only 100 :( kin robbers!

I don't think it's actually "fixed" but I think we're getting close to rigged if not in whole then in part and I personally think that's we're in a dangerous position and that even the merest hint of gerrymandering should be laughable. Unfortunately it isn't.

Anyone else wonder what would happen if the Green Party won? :D

Of course you still registered your disgust in the only way you could and spoiled your paper. Right?

Soiled my paper more like :)

Of course we all have the option of standing for ourselves. Each of us could even form their own party. It's just a shame that we can't be arsed, and I include myself.

nice idea but the closing date for this election was 4pm last thursday - it looks as though i'll have to save "vote moose for 30 glorious years of dictatorship" for 2020

A great many of us were whinging about our ruling class before last Thursday.

It's interesting that so many of us are apathetic or hostile and yet we haven't seen the emergence of a credible and electable new party for... quite some time.

I think that the turning point for me was the expenses fiasco and it brings to my mind the question "What have the Romans ever done for us?" Apart from roads maybe the best thing they brought was decimation. Maybe if we could revive that practice and have one in 10 of our ruling class shot things might improve?

sound plan, though the romans only decimated their armed forces - the ruling class got offered the options of opening their viens in hot water or crucfixion for displeasing the emperor

I'd have to decimate myself before agreeing to Moose Rule....

My electoral strategy is to tell the proles whatever they want to hear - in your case you might be interested to know that I'll be rescinding all driving bans and implementing a national speed limit of 200mph during the hours of darkness, whilst planning to deport all the unemployed and criminals to iraq and eradicating pigeons from our streets.

Once elected none of these policies will actually be delivered, and parliment will suspicioulsy burn down leaving me with emergency powers and sole rule Muhwahwahwah

My thinking exactly (see the post above) - Julius cesar was granted emegency powers and a ten year dictatorship by the Senate... which didnt work out so well for them

So long as i'm never in london on the ides of March i'll be fine ;)

Some people are unemployed not because of choice Pete.

Revive the practice by all means but could we make it 9 of 10.

On second thoughts....

It's almost here and I'm still undecided. I've never been this close to election day and not known who I was going to vote for. For once I really do feel like it doesn't matter who I vote for because they are all a bunch of crooks and liars.

I'm very politically engaged and our political system has even managed to push me to a point where I can barely be bothered with it.

And they did away with the 1/2p because it was too small, now just look at the 5p piece
I'm very politically engaged
I think you should stand for election then, that beats the rest of the self serving bar-bar-bars

back to petrol...Harriet Harmen, Esq wouldnt rule out using the fuel escalator again, which means adding a penny here and there in the budget. so much for looking after the working people!

I've always voted Labour or independent socialist but I don't know if I'll vote this time. Labour seem clueless to me and are still as far as I can see promising everyone everything but if they win maybe they'll get it right and maybe they wont. Maybe we'll get new hospitals, new nurses, new schools and new everything else and just leave the deficit and debt for future generations to deal with.

To me the economy has to come first and once we're out of the mire we can start to fund the nice stuff but I am worried about election promises and give aways and unholy alliances and the mess we could well be leaving for future generations.

Isn't that par for the course who ever we get stuck with?

With hindsight we can say that some governments have got a lot more wrong than right. I think I'd have pretty high on happy backy to even for a minute think that the last Labour government managed the economy well.

I'm tempted to vote Green and then move to Thailand.

I've survived countless governments and coalitions of various flavours.
I welcome each with an overwhelming sense of trepidation,
I've never been proved wrong yet :D

You know, I wouldn't mind seeing one of the marginal parties get a "proper" majority,
if only for the s***s and giggles ;)

And you never know, they may actually be a breath of fresh air ...
:D

If the Greens won... Actually I don't want to even think about it.

Yahoo states Tories have a 2-point lead over Labour , I hope they are VERY wrong.
