The Great Meteorological Thread

Luckily, I should be able to park in town when I have to go down at 5.45 so can sit in climate controlled luxury for a while!

Last night was a bit sweaty...
Should have slept in your car then :p

Even I am too environmentally conscious to sit in a running car purely for comfort's sake. Of course, I could have taken a camera out storm chasing...

Even better news, Mrs Nod will be coming home rather than staying at her Mum's so she can drive down to town to lock up! Might have to go with to take advantage of her AC!

Keeping the storm-related theme going.

As our Kentish weather actually became interesting for a while . . .

I missed all the fun! Went to crewe for a train depot open day and it rained most of the day. Get back home to find an almight thunderstorm with lots of lightning had knocked the power out for about 6 hours in the end.

Errrr...Ian. ..we're getting a repeat of Friday night here in Sittingbourne! !

I like that, shoot the messenger
:D
Just hot and sticky here.

Leave it alone then!

:-D A small isolated thunder cell did pop up in the middle part of Kent and then near Sheppy today, but the lot then trundled slowly to affect London and Essex.
Over here at Folkestone it's just been boring overcast carp with occasional rain all day.

I think it's size may have been a tad underestimated...or it's speed.
It was another corker. I just wish it had been dark again :-)

Currently uder a fair sized thunderstorm. I've been hearing it for the past hour or so and it started raining heavily about 30 minutes ago. Cat no likey! Not seen any forks. Hot and steamy as well - headache central!

Just looked at Will it Rain and seems apart from a small patch in Scotland yourselves and cornwall are the only wet bits :D

:thumbnose:

Lucky aren't they? 28oC coming home at 4:30 tonight :D

Very much so, we could do with a decent storm her, too damn hot, roll on the snow :D(y)

Well, even though the storm seems to have passed over now, it's still more sultry than Kate O'Mara and stinking hot! Keeping an eye out of the West facing windows and am ready to make a dash for the viewpoint at the top of the hill if there looks to be a decent sunset.

Can not believe how low the water levels are in Llyn Llydaw at the foot of Snowdon, especially the amount of rain we have have prior to this dry spell.

And yet, here at East Kent, I've measured 70mm of rain so far this month which is actually twice the average for this part of the world. In which case, at least water restrictions are unlikely to be an issue just yet and my lawn is looking lush for it.

There is going to be a marked cool down across the UK as we go into tomorrow with more in the way of cloud cover and some rain over Northern and Western parts while the far South East hold onto that warm air, then it'll be fresh everywhere on Monday with sunny spells and showers as our wind turn in from the N.W. quarter.
Then it looks like being a two-way split across the UK for the rest of next week with the best of the sunshine as well as temperatures being slightly above average towards Southern and Eastern parts while tending to be cloudy with some rain over Northern Ireland and Scotland.
One thing for sure is that I'm sure most of us should be able to sleep better as it become less humid by night time. I'm sure that would be most welcomed.

Thanks for that Ian you've made my day, I really don't enjoy the heat, roll on the winter :D

Looks like it has been a morning of fun and games for those living at Brighton and Hove as a line of very slow moving thunderstorms brought torrential rain, lightning and hail to that region.
Yet it has been dry and fairly bright all morning here at Kent - just 80 short miles to the east of all that action.

A few rumbles and flashes here and about an hour of fairly steady rain (which has now dried up!) about 7.30 this morning.

....and I am about 10 miles west of Hove (actually) :D

I know its a bit far ahead but whats it like next week. Off to the isle of wight on saturday for a week.

It is a long way in forecasting terms. I'm hoping that the rest of this week and the coming weekend should go along on a dry and settled note while staying on the warm side, more especially towards Southern and Eastern parts while tending to be more cloudy with some rain over Scotland and the Western side of the UK.
There are signs of things becoming even more unsettled and changeable towards Northern and Western parts as we go into next week as the Atlantic begin to stir. Just have to hope that the Southern half of the UK doesn't go that way as well.

Torrential rain, hail, thunder, lightening for about 3 hours this morning and I'm 30 miles north of Brighton :)

Its been rather a nice day up here, some 40 miles to the North of London.
A few spots of rain earlier, never even dampened the path :)

Had to go to town this lunchtime to run a few errands, pay bills etc.. Got there just after 11 and went to John Lewis for our August free coffee and cake - sat out on their roof terrace. Did the errands, bills etc. then it was lunchtime - shame! The outside tables were chocka so we went inside and ordered at which point I glanced outside and the heavens had opened! Pretty soon all the inside tables were full of damp people seeking refuge from the downpour but by the time we had finished eating, the Sun was blazing down again so we got back to the car in the dry. On my way back to the car, the people in front of me walked under a tree which overhangs the road just as a squirrel decided to leap onto the branch overhead... Shouldn't laugh but I did!

Well, its certainly been a damp evening down here,
Its been raining for about 5 hours.
I love tracking these things :)
Snap shot taken a few minutes ago and the "weather" is "tracking"East by North East.
Obviously the darker the colour the heavier the rain fall.

The remnants of ex-Bertha is now arriving at the South West approaches as I type this. Indeed, in a nut shell it is going be wet and windy across most of the UK tonight and into tomorrow as the low pressure system deepens while tracking north-eastwards across the country.
Gusts of up to 50 mph may occur over prone exposed hilly and coastal areas and there will be thundery showers/thunderstorms embedded in the mix, thus a risk of localised flooding.

Conditions should improve over Southern England and Wales by tomorrow afternoon even though it'll still be very windy while it'll be staying wet and windy over Northern England, Ireland and Scotland.

Monday will be a day of sunny breaks and showers across the UK as that low pressure becomes anchored off to the north of Scotland, slowly and gradually losing it's identity as we go through the week.

It was (probably, given the branches and wetness on the roads) a bit wild and wooly last night but I think we missed the worst of it. I think South Wales took it full on though.

Right HERE, we're reasonably protected from the westerlies by the ridge but get hammered by the occasional easterly blowing up the valley.

We seem to have had a fair drop of rain over night.
Its still raining and breezy here, but nothing to write home about, as they say.

Well today we've had a cracking thunderstorm with lightning strikes close enough to morrisons petrol station for them to close it lol.
Flash floods and gusty winds.
And I was caught out in it :(

Gusty wind here too - but that could be the fava (yellow lentil purée) I made last evening!
