Any predictions of what its going to be like for half term? Hubby is off and we are supposed to be getting out and about with the kids, so want to be at least semi-prepared

Welly's, wax cotton and a fur lined bikini
(in case you head for the coast)
should just about have it covered,
going on past experience, of a May bank holiday week-ends,
I would have thought :D

:D Chris.

Hi Kelly, I'm afraid there seems to be little signs of any real summer-like conditions for next week as it'll remain cool, unsettled with sunny spells and showers.
As simple as that, really. Even my thoughts for at least a settled and dry first week of June seems to be in jeopardy so it looks like it won't be until the second week of June that it'll be worth me looking out for the first bit of actual summer-like weather.
Not quite what you had to mind but even so, next week is quite a long way off in forecasting terms anyway.

Have just watched my local weather forecast for the next couple of days ahead, possible snow on summits, nearly June and I could be adding images to my winter landscape folder lol

And that bit of wintriness could even reach as far south as the very high ground of the South East - perhaps some sleetiness in the heavier downpours.
Looks like it'll be a mixed couple of days for my location (Kent) with sunshine, showers, hail, possible thunder and of course, generally feeling rather cold especially in the northerly wind.

Summer has arrived. :D

Ah for the May of 4 years ago . When i had my youngest (she turned 4 on monday) it was baking hot for the next few weeks, she lived in just a nappy and the occassional romper suit :) Too much to ask to have nice weather when the kids aren't at school i guess .

Thanks for that Ian :p

My pleasure. :D the way this Spring has been the coldest for 30 years, I'm surprised The Great Meteorological Thread still has that five-star rating. If this is a restaurant, it would be stripped at least four stars. :gag:

Been quite a windy day with quite a cool edge to it, temp has reached about 16c today, but certainly didn't feel like it, though more washing dried though :)

Certainly being one of those days where I'm experiencing all four seasons in one go. So far today, I've had rain, hail, sunshine and cold wind, the only thing missing is lightning - but that may occur later on this afternoon.

As this Spring continue to struggle to get going . . .

LOL Ian :D

Winds?, check.
Rain?, check
Sleet?, check
Hail?, check.
That's pretty much
covered it for today (so far)

Oh and the sun has condescended to show its face occasionally too :D

Hi Chris! The only thing missing is thunder and kitchen sinks, have to admit in feeling disappointed about that as it wasn't really a "classic" stormy situation (it's an amateur meteorologist prerogative). Still, the lawn does appreciate the 2.5 mm of rain that had fallen so far today.

Blimey that's a fair bit Ian!
We have also had quite a bit, today,
but at a guess its probably less than half that.

I still couldn't believe that there was wet snow falling here though
early afternoon!

Indeed, some of the heavier showers had the effect of dragging cold air down from aloft, which caused temperatures to fall down to 5 C to 2 C, hence was able to support wet snow/sleet in places.

Tomorrow is set to be quite miserable, wet and cold over Southern and Eastern parts of the UK but things should slowly improve as we go into the weekend - but I'm afriad it does look like things will go downhill on Monday with rain moving in from the north west.

Summer has arrived. :D

I drew the short straw and will be in Manchester working "landfill" tomorrow
I guess that is going to be even worse up there?

Actually, the further away from the south and east of the UK you are, the better the chance of you being away from all that cloud and rain. It's still going to be a rather bleak ol' day all the same where you'll be, though.

No change there then :D

Thanks Ian

Just driven back to Somerset from Oxfordshire, the car thermometer plummeted to just 4deg C driving across the Ridgeway!
That's flippin cold for this time of year....

And yes - it was hail and sleet at the time - between the driving rain...
Five mins later sunshine and dry roads with a relatively pleasant 8deg C - mad ......

Been the same here, haven't even ventured out into the garden check the temps today, but on the school run I can safely say it was stupidly cold for this time of year  Winter, I love you dearly :bat:

My trip to Manchester was sort of a waste of time in the end,
but it rained both ways with very strong winds, and is still at it now.
It was 4oC at 5am
and is only 3 degrees (that's a great name for a band don't you think? :D) higher now :(

Over here, it's not actually rained that much so far today (1.2 mm which isn't a lot considering) and it even tried to brighten up at times. But, nonetheless it is very cold for this time of year as temperatures ranged between 3 C to 9 C over the South East, with a few lucky hot spots touching 10 C or 11 C. Oh dear.
I'm going to see winds and cloud switching from it coming in from the west right around anticlockwise to it coming in from the north east as we go into the rest of this afternoon as a small but quite active low pressure centre passes right over the South East.

Watch this space for a cartoon explaining why we have this wet weather. Especially now I have warmed up and the feeling have returned to my fingers.

According to the web thingie I look at,
We are supposed to be getting around 3mm/hour
as its been ****ing down the last 2 or 3
and raining steadilly for the 7 before that
I guess that all adds up to a fair drop :D

And over here it's chucking it down properly. 4.5 mm so far, but most of it fell in the past hour.

Spring really has sprung a leak . . .

LOL Great cartoon as always Ian

Oh and I just nipped outside for a minute, and there is bloody sleet in there again!
FFS!

We're expecting to see snow next week. Not falling but a lot further South than might be expected. In fact, almost as far South as you can go and stay in Europe! The Levka Ori (White Mountains) in Crete are so named for their snow capped peaks which usually last well into June (on the North facing slopes). Quite surreal to be wearing swimmys, parascending over turquoise sea in front of golden beaches packed with sun worshippers with a backdrop of snow capped mountains not many miles inland!

Hi all, and hope y'all are having a great long Bank Holiday weekend.

This afternoon, while I cut the lawn, I felt this strange sensation on my face, I think it's called "warmth" and it came from the sun.

I'm frightened, what is that phenomenon?

It's currently 15.8 C with 53% humidity but it feels quite muggy and warm - probably is when compared to how chilly it was under overcast skies this morning.

Tomorrow, Southern and Eastern parts of England is expected to hang onto this bit of fine and warm weather but it'll be a completely different story over Western parts (South West England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Western Scotland) with overcast skies and rain (which could be heavy in places).

THen the rest of the week is expected to go along on a rather changeable note with sunny spells and showers where the risk of thunder will never be too far away.

But I'm still sticking to the idea of a more summer-like start to the first week of June. Whether it'll be a short lived spell or it's a trend leading to a decent June is another matter all together.

I think I might have. All of two hours, it's quite a shock to the system. Now I know how Dracula feels like when he is exposed to daylight. Hissssssss.

Not sure what happened with my duplicate postings, though!

That last one was a single!

I'll let you know what the SW's weather's like tomorrow - forecast doesn't look ideal so Mrs Nod's mowed the grass in preparation for out departure next week. Hoping next Thursday is fine in Bristol and there's a tailwind all the way down to Heraklion with a hint of a westerly there to allow an easy, gentle landing (it's usually a southerly coming down off the mountains and the runway runs E/W - makes landings... exciting on occasion!)

I'd better not show you those youtube videos of planes trying to land in a cross wind, but have a lovely break. I shoulld imagine it'll be like a jungle when you get back what with it being warm and damp over here.
I've just given my garden a mow and trim, this is actually the first spring in two years that I'm looking at shade of greens and not browns.

Seen 'em! Only really had one poor landing - the chief steward commented on that one and thanked the pilot for all the landings, especially the final one! It's a bit unnerving if it's your first time landing there and you're sat on the starboard side for a runway 27 landing - all you see out of your window is sea until about 2 seconds before the wheels hit the ground! After the year we had in 2012, we're really looking forward to this holiday especially showing all our Cretan (and tourist) friends how well I am now (I was really quite ill last year and was probably the only person not to realise that!)

Just setting up an automatic watering system for all the gro-bags we've got planted along with a couple of troughs of beetroot. Nod's law says that if I go to the trouble, it'll rain solid for a fortnight! We'll get a neighbour to deal with the front lawn and there's not a lot of back left after the conservatory went up!
