The Great Meteorological Thread

The official stats show we didn't have even 1 single drop of rain in the whole of May, and the average temperature was a whopping 2C higher monthly average. I think it's going to be a hot summer.

Afternoon all from a damp, cold (currently 11.9 C) and overcast Folkestone - like what has been for most of today. A few hardy souls around here has gone onto having the Jubilee street party anyway . . . with the help of a few gazebos. :D

Further proof that bank holidays and our climate just don't get on well with each other . . .

I don't think that the rain has let up once today (Sunday)
And its still at it now :(

Afternoon Cobra, Michael and anyone reading this from a slowly brightening up Folkestone.
This morning was more Autumnal in nature - cold north wind and heavy drizzle - but the sun is now breaking through fluffy cumulus cloud as I type.
Still, it's doing my lawn the world of good - a total contrast to this time last year when my front garden was turning into the colour of straw at it became like a dust bowl.
 
Hi Ian the sky is a bit like a Zebra crossing here.
It goes from fluffy white to not so fluffy black on a regular basis,
bringing the "April showers" with it.
And a high of about 10oC
 
Well I've been out with the camera all morning, doing the Jubilee Carraige Drive in Dorking, weather held , sunny as they drove through the town :D
Did rain when got back to base for a short while, nothing much, now quite bright :thumbs:
It's you Chris, keep telling to to stop doing those rain dances :p
 
Mornin' all from what is still quite a bright Folkestone. Isn't going to stay that way for too long today, though, but at least the weather behaved itself for last night's Jubilee-type going ons.

Anyway, I took this at 4.15 am this morning (June 5th) from my back yard. Been a while since I last saw one of those.

The photo itself saw to absolutely no processing (apart from the crop and border bits).
 
Mornin' all you awakenin' souls from a rather overcast and damp Folkestone. Mmm, going by my own thoughts and the various forecasts, it seems we have skipped summer and going straight onto Autumn.
I still think things willl settle down and become warmer and brighter as we go into the second half of this month (but thundery-type outbreaks continuing to be a regular feature).
 
Met Office amber warning in place for this afternoon in the South West.
Gale force winds, leaves on the trees, soft ground - could make getting home tonight from Oxford interesting.
First hint the forecast is worsening and I getting straight in the car!

I'm here in sunny monsoon Manchester.
Even the ducks are looking bedraggled :(
 
Hi Chris and everyone reading this. After that wet afternoon, it became quite sunny in the early evening and it is still fine and clear. It is a bit breezy, though, but my room is quite fresh and airy with a window open . . . and just as well as I have got quite terrible wind myself!

Set off for work this morning in the rain, got a few miles down the road where it goes over a river, well it did, this morning the river was running over the road :eek:
My trusty car got through if no problem :thumbs:
Been reasonably dry so far, damn cold though, floods have subsided for the moment, water was just lapping the edge of the road fields were a lake, and forecast is for more to come :eek:
Anyone got a boat I can borrow :D
 
I suppose I should stop moaning about how dull it's been up here since February!

We've avoided most of the torrential rain locally. Still cool at 11.5 but quite a few blue bits with white whispy clouds becoming slowly thicker.
The chillier wind is just beginning to make it's presence felt..
 
Hi everyone! Indeed, this is being quite a shocking start to the summer! So shocking that it's leaving everyone speechless! What a total contrast to what it was like when I first started this thread.
Indeed, Bognor Regis appeared to have been the most affected area after two days of continuous rain had delivered over 130 mm. However, my area had got off VERY lightly with only 5 mm since Saturday night but it was (and still is) damp, cold and overcast for most of the time.

Anyway, here's a light hearted look on things . . .

I'm still keen on the idea of high pressure moving in to try and settle things down over the UK as we go towards the end of June. If and when it does so, then whether that'll last into July is another matter all together.

Cartoons are as great as ever Ian :lol: All I see though is everybody shouting abnormal weather and running around like headless Chickens :thinking: There aint nothing abnormal about any of it imo, weather has always been abnormal but hey it gives us a talking point I suppose ;)

I'm here in sunny Manchester, and you kow what? Yep it has been raining
but no where near as bad (or as much) as South of the M25.
Seems you folks are really getting hammered in some area's :(

Hi Chris! Hope you are well. :thumbs:

It's turned out lovely and sunny for most of the day today over here at Folkestonefordshire. It was even good enough to sit in the garden and have caught a bit of sun. :)
That also enabled me to catch up on my fortnightly gardening, and it's good to see the lawn looking all green and lush - a total contrast to what it was like this time last year!
 
Holy thread revival Batman! But indeed, some lively thunder cells has been popping up at around Birmingham and Derby.

Here at Folkestone, bone dry and bright - and quite humid. As per usual. :D
 
We had one yesterday looked like 2 months rain in 30 mins lol and then again today thunder the lot

And up a bit Ian ;)
I was working in Scunthorpe today, it started rumbling around, about mid morning,
and was soon lashing down,
the thunder rolled in and out the rest of the day, with assorted sheet lightning and different "degree's"
of rain fall.
Curiously, when I set out at 5am, it was 17.5oC
Halfway back down the M1 at 5pm it was 27.5oC

Hi Chris! Indeed it has been a day of contrasts as far as today's weather was concerned. It got up to 28 C over North Kent today (my location reached 25 C this afternoon) with nearly unbroken sunshine lasting the day. Have sat out in the garden for hours and now I'm quite burnt.

However, for those who can't really handle the excitment, our weather should revert back to normal mode tomorrow onwards with Northern and Western parts of the UK often being unsettled and cool while Southern and Eastern parts get to pick up the best of any sunny weather, along with it being mostly dry and with temperatures sticking close to average values (around 19 C).
I reckon this will be the kind of set up for the next two weeks, not really getting too hot but nor too cold and wet.
