The Great Meteorological Thread

Very nice shot Michael ...

Morning campers.. The weather here is cool but not cold and looks set for the next five days and thats 15c daytime and 8c at night, being a bit warmer on the coast.

Morning all..

Not a cloud in the sky so thats very boring.. well thats my weather forecast today. :D

:D

Just had ten minutes of drizzle, That band of . . . er . . weather has passed over us and yet the top soil is still bone dry, didn't even touch the sides.

Skies are clearing and it is now quite sunny, and it's not really that windy.

Hi Ian.. Just been for a walk to take a shot or two and its a nice warm day at about 22c..

Well thats you banned then :p

After quite a heavy rain fall overnight,
it turned into a pleasant day with virtually no wind here either.
But I doubt that it hit 10oC

Looking at that sky now, I wouldn't mind betting that I will have to scrape
the ice off the van in the morning though :(

Cheers mate.. Thats the nicest thing thats been said to me all day.. :D

..
:D

Well I was correct had to break out the ice scraper :(
A nice clear fresh start to the morning, but it seemed to get colder as
the day went on :(
at one point it even looked as though snow clouds were forming, but the temp
stayed about 8oc so that was a none starter too ;)

Its been a heady 22c this afternoon.. lubberly jubberly..

Didn't get the frost this morning as winds had picked up during the night and came in from what is still a warm Strait of Dover.

Anyway, just had a cheeky look at the model outputs and it does look like the next ten days will be quite lively and changeable as far as our weather is concerned. Starting with an active cold front sweeping eastwards across the UK tomorrow.
Then it's likely to get stormy by the weekend. Possible tidal surges over the East Coast on Saturday, one to watch I think.

Morning all you lot in blighty..

Todays weather is sun.. goodinnit.

Aww, that's sad. And does look like it's only going to get worse over this coming weekend as most of the model outputs are showing a rapidly deeping depression system off to the north-east of the UK on Saturday. Well worth keeping an eye on that one as we get nearer to the time.

And yet, it's amazing to think that this snow event occurred on EXACTLY right now on this day a year ago. This is what I got to see at my former workplace on the morning of Nov 29th 2010 . . . the Great Late Autumn Cold Snap had started.

Hi ian..
I will just go and get a jumper on while I look at these pictures.. :D

Made me shiver too :D

Very wet and very windy first thing, the rain has all but quit now
but we are left with very strong winds, the poor Pere x Lanner was panting
after 2 laps of the land fill this morning ;)

Been persisting down all day here in sunny(!) Exeter - cat now has lovely fluffy coat but doesn't want to go outside again now. Currently 6.2°C out there and a starry, starry night so wouldn't be too surprised to see a frost in the morning.

Evenin' all.

Over here, the tiny spitty bit of rain we have had this evening hadn't even touched the dusty top soil and now skies are clearing again. Seems that the underlying drought situation continues. According to my records, the last time I saw rainfall that came to more than 0.5 mm in a day was 6th November - that's a clear three weeks ago - and even then it came to 2.5 mm!
If it keeps this up for the whole of this winter, we could be facing serious water shortages, along with agriculture-type crops struggling to get going come next spring.

Having thought about it, suddenly the metered water supply system has become a good idea now.

It does look like being quite wet on Thursday for this neck of the woods, but it's going to need a LOT more than that to bring our reservoirs back up to normal levels.

If those showers expected for tonight and tomorrow morning doesn't produce anything - then this month's total for my location would come to 22 mm (less than an inch - the November average should be 70 mm - or nearly 3 inches).

You've got to be kidding!
It's horrendous here in Snowdonia!!!!

Snapped through the windscreen this morning.

Apparently this was just 'normal' for this time of year - last Saturday there were gales and bad floods, that was properly wet.

That does look properly soaked through!

Nope, not kidding. Yesterday, while I was on my push bike to visit a friend, I took a short cut through the local sports field and the soil was still rock hard (whereas it should all be soggy and muddy).
My lawn is actually getting by just on morning dew alone!

That does look a tad damp Duncan!
Chilly breeze clear sky's and no sign of rain today.
That'll do for me:thumbs:

Has someone moved the white lines to the right of the road..

Its only a shower.. :D

Evening one and all.
The weather here is sunny but not over hot at 19c today.

The latest batch of posts in here does clearly show that the Atlantic has finally woken up and is now starting to have an influence on our weather.

Tomorrow will provide further evidence of that as the latest model outputs seem to suggest near-continuous rain over the South East of the UK as from midnight tonight and into tomorrow and not easing until Friday morning. A quick bit of guessimate adding-up suggest I could see up to 30 mm of rain between now and the weekend - that would be more than the whole of November put together for my location (I recorded 22.5 mm for my location for the past month!).

And you know what I think of it? I say bring it on because finally it's something noteworthy . . . and we do need the rain badly, at least speaking from my back yard.

Then next week, things will take on a more wintry flavour over the northern half of the UK as colder air start to move in from the north west. Snowfalls will become a regular feature over Scotland and even over high ground further south.

And pigs might fly :p :D

Thanks for the Update Ian

Mornin' all from a increasingly cloudy Folkestone. There was some brightness at dawn this morning but cloud is thickening up fast and rain is not too far off.

Amazing to think that it was on this very day a year ago this happened. A band of general heavy snow swept in from the east in the evening. That enabled me to get these three photos of Folketone town center at 8 pm as the Great Late Autumn Big Freeze dug in deeper . . .

WHAT
The forecast for here is dry and wall to wall sunshine (unlike the last few days) - how bizarre is that!

Cheers

Actually, it may be okay for your location as most of the rain should pass by to your south.

Here at South East Kent, I've had an hour's of heavy rain this morning. 6 mm in just that space of time - on top of 2.5 mm's worth of drizzly stuff of last night. It actually chucked it down properly, real man's man's man rain and not the silly spitty stuff blowing about in the wind.
It's brightened up a bit now, but I'm expecting more rain to move in from the Channel as I wear on into the afternoon.

Mornin' all you awakenin' souls from a very clear and sunny Folkestone. A total contrast to what it was like here at Folkestone yesterday. 26.7 mm of rain fell in 24 hours at my location yesterday, according to my digital rain gauge - that is more than the WHOLE of November put together for the same location!

Anyway, right now, on this precise moment on this day exactly a year ago, I woke up to this . . .

Dec%2B10%2Bsnow%2B1.jpg

I did NOT fancy trying to ride a motorbike to my former workplace in that, so I wrangled the day off - but still went for a walk . . . with camera in hand of course.

Later on in the morning . . .

And then in the afternoon as I took to the hills.

At this point the light was growing poor as dusk approached, but managed to fit this one in . . .

Great shots Ian

I'm glad you finally got your rain too.
'Tis a cold and frosty morning here.

Brrr indeed :)
But I guess at least your daytime temps are still higher than ours.
