The General Drone-Related Thread

Fantastic shots! I was only 20 miles away from there that day "as the drone flies" but was shrouded in thick fog the entire time. It was so dense that my Mini 2's downward position sensors kept putting the drone into landing mode whenever I pulled down on the stick, even when it was 50 feet up. I imagine a drone with more sensors would have been unable to fly at all.
We left there and back to Monmouth. The fog was horrendous!
Weird as it was a Crystal clear night at Blaen Y Glyn where we stayed overnight, and it was sunny and clear until you hit Merthyrm then solid fog all the way home.

I wouldn't think so... Not until a clear replacement is launched which wouldn't be for quite some time yet. Demand seems high. You might be lucky if you keep an eye on the likes of Amazon, but depends on how quickly you want to buy one. I watched the regular mavic 3 for months and didn't get an offer. It's the usual sods law. You'll wait and wait - and there's no movement. You buy. Then they reduce it by £50 :)

Once is probably enough for me - at my age and fitness levels, my knees were well goosed by the end of the walk! :)

I have to admit I've never managed to get as far as your drone went up Black Brook! It's a nice amble along the Goyt though. Might have a run up that way later seeing the sun is shining today.

Rivington castle area might look good from the air.

You can see my position is at 4:10 just as the drone goes up - I'm stood at the very top right corner of the view.

I've thought about Rivi, the Trough of Bowland, Darwen Tower, places like that.

I don't think I've got that far! Admitedly I haven't tried that path. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. Some of the old farms up there might be worth a look, the less remote ones.

The octagonal Jubilee Tower on Beacon Hill, overlooking the town of Darwen, was completed in 1898 to commemorate Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee and also to celebrate the victory of the local people for the right to access the moor. It was opened to the public on September 22 1898. Standing 85ft in height, walkers can climb to the top of the tower via the internal staircase to admire the breath-taking views of the surrounding moorland. Music: Amarantine by Enya.

I’ve received my Mini 3 Pro today  and the fly more kit.

I’ve put the batteries on charge in the tri-battery bank, and it appears that they are all charging at once. Is that right? I thought they charged sequentially.

Update.
The charger is now only charging one battery o_O

It will usually charge the lowest one first then one at a time.
You really want a PD type charger with at least 45w output though it will get here eventually.
You will need to register on a DJI account and there will be updates available if not confident about those you can leave it for now.
I think the last one did fix minor problems rather than offer major new features.
Please don't get impatient and try first flight in small outside area or worse in the house.

Thank you 4wd. I have registered with DJI. Firmware updates tomorrow morning and first flight outside planned!

I’ll check out the PD type chargers thanks.

I've only done a few vids so far - and for me, it charges one at a time.

Have fun - I am! :)

Here are my two latest attempts.

2nd one is a longer journey - sit back and enjoy the views and the music in that one - it's got quite a nice bit at the end which just worked out right - nothing was set up... :)

The Japanese Lake is part of the Rivington Terraced Gardens built by the founder of the former Lever Brothers company – now known as Unilever – Lord Leverhulme, who was inspired by one of his trips to Japan.

Lord Leverhulme commissioned a replica of Liverpool Castle to be built on his Rivington estate of Lever Park, near Horwich. The castle is a direct replica of the original medieval Liverpool Castle, which was located near the waterfront in the city. However, that was demolished way back in the 1720s. The castle was incomplete by the time of Lord Leverhulme’s death in 1925. Work stopped, though the majority of the intended layout was in place. Today the castle sadly has its fair share of graffiti...

Well we successfully flew this morning :) I'm really happy with drone. Image quality is impressive. RTH is fab, 32 satellites helps! More training tomorrow, I have couple of places I'd like to visit and then I'll post some images if they are any good ;)

Very nice indeed ;)

I have thought about sending mine up at night, now I most likely will :)

Just a few yards from where Rigg Lane meets Beacon Fell Road, is a little lake with a tree-filled island in its centre. It's small and the water is a little on the brown side, but there are few people who seem to find it, and the ducks are often the only residents....

Located about ten miles north of Preston and on the very western edge of the Forest of Bowland. the picnic site and nature trail (sometimes mistakenly called ‘Brock Bottoms’) is a beauty spot along the river. Brock Bottoms was once the site of a cotton spinning mill, with about 20 cottages built to accommodate the workforce. The mill was probably built in the 1790's.

Salt and pepper Pots - North Yorkshire.

The (Lund's) tower and (Wainman's) pinnacle sit at opposite ends of the rocky outcrop called Earl Crag. Lund's Tower is a stone-built folly situated to the south-west of the North Yorkshire village of Sutton-in-Craven. It is also known as Cowling Pinnacle, Sutton Pinnacle, the Ethel Tower, the Jubilee Tower or, in conjunction with the nearby Wainman's Pinnacle, the pair are referred to as the Salt and Pepper Pots. Here you see Wainman's Pinnacle first before a look at Lund's Tower.

Getting fed up with MPB.
Bought a Mavic Pro 2 or 3 years back and despite stating the batteries had been charged less than 10 times when I received the package all 3 had been charged around 30 times.
Customer Services were next to useless in finding a resolution. Eventually they sent me another battery (with 38 charges on it!).

So 2 weeks ago I saw a Mini 2 Fly More combo on there for £364 in as new condition with 4 charges on the batteries.
I thought I'd give them another chance at that price.
I phoned them after 2 days as no email stating despatched having paid for 1 day delivery.
"Oh, when being packed they found it was faulty."

So obviously they don't test them before advertising them on the site.

What a waste of everyone's time.

I’m new to video editing, never shot video at all! So, learning curve coming up :)

What editor do you guys use please? A free one would be great;)

DaVinci Resolve is free and brilliant (but I have no room in my C drive to install it and it insists in doing so). Instead I use my now rather old Filmora 9 which I have had for years.

Preston North End FC is a professional football club in Preston, Lancashire, England.

Preston North End was a founder member of the Football League in 1888. The club's most famous players have been Tom Finney and Bill Shankly, who are both commemorated at Deepdale by stands named after them. Outside the ground you will see a sculpture, set in a fountain, which depicts Preston North End legend Sir Tom Finney sliding through a puddle while controlling the ball on a waterlogged pitch (based on a photograph taken by John Horton).

This morning I found I had a broken propeller blade, so had to attach a replacement set of blades, which then needed testing. UAV Forecast said it was not a good day to fly - with some strong winds around, but the Mini 3 Pro coped fairly well.

This is the short test video I made, of The Ribble Millennium Link Preston. Opened in July 2002 The Millennium Ribble Link is Britain’s newest inland waterway - the six-mile navigation costing almost £6m.

Question,

Do I now need an A2 CofC to fly a drone under 2kg but over 250 gms?

Purely for recreational use?

I believe I can fly 150m away from people or buildings without one.

Is this correct please?

Many thanks,

Terry.
