I see nothing that reports it was a woman.

I never said that. Actually, the Liverpool Echo does suggest it was his girlfriend. Either way it's unacceptable, but if it proves to be true then the little **** needs a slap. I guess he'll be backed by the club though because he has value.

I hate football.

Actually (and not specific to Liverpool but with all clubs in general), this does seem to be a default position when a player is charged with something other than a motoring offence. Any other business would probably suspend the employee but I wonder if Planet Football's support for their players almost condones their activities (at least in the player's minds).

Anyway, back to Sterling - he's pleaded not guilty so at least his girlfriend has got about 6 months to decide not to turn up as a witness.

He'll get off. She'll be talked around or paid off. Shocking.

So, JWH has said Suarez isn't going anywhere at any price as it's too late to find a replacement. I accept that, but think this is a dangerous game with such a volatile player.

Time isn't the reason you'll be unable to find an adequate replacement...it's a long time until September 2nd ;)

With the protracted way most big money transfers happen it is. Especially when Buck likes to have his players in before the season begins.

I'm sure Wenger will be bidding £300,000 for him soon. ;)

Januzaj looks pretty good.

That's why I named Januzaj as 'player I'm most looking forwards to next season' when somebody on here did that questionnaire. I just hope he's given the chance as he's the potential to be a special player.

I didn't watch the stream but I watched on SKY BT Sport. Bit of a carp game really and didn't feel like a testimonial.

Downing to West Ham then. Odd because for the latter part of the last season and in pre season he's looked very good. The only reason I can see to offload him now is financial rather than footballing. 80k a week at 29 makes him surplus to requirements.

I agree. He had a good season from Xmas, and looked good on Saturday in the friendly with Celtic. If you have younger players, who can do a similar job, for less money, then it makes sense. At his age he needs to be playing regularly, especially with a possible World Cup next year.

Liverpool seem to be trying to work towards operating within the Financial Fairplay Rules as much as they can. They have overpaid, both in transfer fees and wages in the past, and the present owners seem to be trying to correct that were possible. Whether they can do that and be successful, only time will tell.

We remain eternally (stupidly) optimistic.

Henderson, Adam, Downing, Carroll - didn't Liverpool chuck £80,000,000 or so on those ?

Selling Suarez would terrify me if I was a Liverpool fan.

Henderson and Adam were (are) on less. I still maintain that Henderson will prove to be good value. He got better and better last season and scored some brilliant goals.

Keeping Suarez and all that he brings with him disgusts me more. I will struggle to watch him in a Liverpool shirt again.

Good value? £22m for him in the market 2 years ago was crazy money. Thiago went from Barcelona to Bayern Munich this year for the same money to put that in perspective.

Where do you get your figures from? He cost £16m which is going to prove a good buy. He's improving year on year, is willing to learn and has become a decent player under Buck.

I was going from memory. It appears it was actually £20m:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...erson-from-Sunderland-in-20-million-deal.html

Even at £16m my point still stands. He's certainly not a bad player and he is improving but at his age and performances to date he certainly didn't warrant a £16-20m fee. Of course his transfer came at a time when Liverpool also paid something like £55m for Carroll and Downing!

Yep, Liverpool have overpaid for quite a few players, :( :bang: which is why they are trying to balance the books now, as much as they can, and hopefully still improve. ;)

Overspending tends to happen when a new manager arrives and quickly wants to change the team to 'his' team. New managers generally tend to arrive when their predecessor hasn't done to well too, and so are backed by the board/owner to quickly change the team. Mistakes happen unfortunately. If all buys were successes, there wouldn't be that many transfers. ;)

Although Henderson has improved, there is no way he was worth the money we paid imho.

No idea what he's like in real life but he was always a beast of a DM on FIFA

That's a strange one.

I thought he was on a fairly new long term contract.

That reads like he's managed to get a revised deal so he can jump ship next year because no suitable buyer / offers have come in this year.

More likely he's had a cast iron release clause added. ;)

He signed a new contract last year, which has 3 years to go I think, which is why Liverpool are in such a strong position with him.

So it will depend on what the clauses are. If it is solely based on Liverpool transfer qualifying for the Champions League is one thing, but to also put in a value at which he will be allowed to leave which is below is market value, is another thing.

Liverpool don't actually have to give him any contract.

Although, if in this (supposed) new contract he took a huge drop in wages (highly unlikely ;)) then that could offset a lower transfer fee they expected if the clause kick in.

Maybe put him on £10k a week, (I think I could live on that ;)) and also during any suspensions he pays back £100k a week. That could give Liverpool £5-£10m to add to any fee he negotiated to leave for. ;)

More money to make him happy. That is all that ever works.

That's why I thought it was strange for Liverpool to be offering him anything different.

Whatever the changes - the PR is going to be fun.

We'll be back to Scousers loving him and Gooners hating him again.

Anyway

England v Scotland tonight.

My life will be hell if we loose.

I won't be loving him.

Martin Charquero - the same guy who said Arsenal had signed James Rodriguez last summer and how did that turn out? I'd be surprised if he even spoke to Suarez, let alone if that's what he was told, but I'm a huge sceptic when it comes to the honesty of 99% of (sports) journalists!

After the farce that was Thiago and Fabregas, United are today being linked with Ozil. I'd be over the moon but I really can't see that happening.
