I'm beside myself. We're supposed to ease our way into being contenders, not do it all at once! I can't cope!

I am very nervous, I don't expect us to do it....but would hate to be in the position Utd found themselves a couple season back. Not sure I can cope with it all.

Definitely got altitude sickness....

Quite surprised by Spurs. Really thought they'd give us a real test. But thankfully not :D

Six wins away from the championship. I'm a little excited. Great result for Everton as well. It's like the 80s.

Genuinely in dreamland now. Even I'm staying to think we could actually do it.

I think the fact Liverpool started the season as underdogs with the objective of a top 4 place maximum has lightened the pressure on them. With Chelsea and City starting the season knowing they were both expected to win the premiership the pressure has been on them to win at all costs. I'm starting to think we (Liverpool) can win the title but I think all the top 4 teams will drop some more points before the end of the season. The games against City and Chelsea at Anfield are make and break now and we've all seen how Liverpool can demolish top teams there, Spurs Arsenal and Everton to think of just a few. Considering how they finished last season I personally would be happy with a top 4 finish, very happy with 3rd or 2nd and absolutely ecstatic with 1st. I dare to dream.

I wasn't - I'm glad it wasn't more of a thrashing. Defensively we're poor, we haven't a quality strike force yet and Liverpool are playing out of their skins for the boss and at home. It was always down as a defeat, just how much

What's amazing is that it's been overlooked that Liverpool will be back in the Champions League next season, that's an amazing achievement in itself!
It's neither been overlooked, nor is it amazing

It shouldn't be an "amazing achievement" given the money they've splashed out!

Are people now seeing Liverpool as the plucky under-dog?

Lest we forget the amount Spurs spent......

Or utd with 60 million.

Splashing the cash is no guarantee of success and at least their coach has made some of the players better.

It's all relative. Liverpool, given where they finished last season, compared to the teams ahead of them, they were considered underdogs at the start of the season.

Depends on who you are comparing them to. The richest club in the World, (Utd) 2 clubs that have spent hundreds of millions over the last few years, (Chel$ki and Cit€h) and a team who have spent twice as much as Liverpool over the last two years. (Spurs) Not saying Liverpool are paupers, but to be anywhere near Chel$ki and Cit€h this far into the season is an achievement. :)

So what Wenger has achieved in the past 10 years with even less money is unbelievable. The man is a Genius!

I won't ever say or hear a bad word said against the Mr Wenger again.

Ignore the bitter bluenose.

West Ham winning can only be a good thing as they are now as good as safe.

Neither was I, Sherwood doesn't seem to have any idea about tactics. I've read he didn't want to watch the home defeat as he wouldn't learn anything from it! For footballing reason you have to say if Liverpool did win the title it would be a good and a kick in the teeth to both big spending City and Chelsea. The Kop will need to suck that ball into the net against both clubs like they did in days gone by! Have to say it's one of the most exciting Premier league finishes for sometime.

Someone's bitter!

Who cares what they spent 10 years ago.

And there it is, the usual response from a Kopite when they have nothing else to say! I'm not bitter. What's 'bitter' about just pointing out the facts of what has been spent from 2003 to 2013? if you cared to read the table properly.

Ok, if you want more relevance as to how the 'plucky underdog' may win the league this year; a table for total spend since the Premiership started, the difference between the top 3 spenders and Liverpool, is the quality of the signings made by Chelsea, City & United, IMO:

# Nett Spend 92/03 - 13/14 Purchased Gross Sold Nett Per Season
1 Chelsea £951,099,000 £305,075,000 £646,024,000 £29,364,727
2 Manchester City £806,380,000 £234,953,000 £571,427,000 £25,973,955
3 Manchester United £613,850,000 £318,740,000 £295,110,000 £13,414,091
4 Liverpool £650,305,000 £362,470,000 £287,835,000 £13,083,409

20 Swansea City £51,177,500 £29,860,000 £21,317,500 £968,977

Funny how an Evertonian is a bitter, but there's nothing but hatred, spite & bitterness between Kopites & Mancs; but that gets pushed under the carpet.

He has done an amazing job, but I'd stop short of genius. ;) They have needed players in key positions for years, and seemingly had the money to spend, but he hasn't done it repeatedly. It didn't even take a genius to see where they were lacking.

Great job keeping them in the top 4, but a little bit of spending may have won them something in recent years.

Had a big reply written out as to why Everton fans are bitter. Not all of them are. The ones my age or older are boss. Friendly rivals who know the shared history of both clubs. Young Everton fans are bellends.

I'm made up that Everton are in the position they are in. It's boss for my city and means both halves of my family are loving this season.

Well, I'm not a young Everton fan ;) And I'm not a bitter. Didn't this nickname only start after the Premiership? I never once heard us called bitters when I was growing up, or when we were both winning things in the 80's. It's a relatively new term, AFAIK.

Look, I just don't like LFC, never have, never will. Never want them to win anything, and I want them to lose all their games. Their my clubs biggest rival. So, if that makes me a Bitter, then 99% of supporters are Bitters. I also have plenty of Kopites who despise & hate Everton, and wish the same against Everton, as I do for their club.

Look, the majority of young, $ky TV footie fans are bells, with their sense of entitlement and constant anger to anything not involved with their own team.

Firstly, I have been a Gooner (and Cambridge Utd) fan all my life - never liked Liverpool at all as while I was growing up they were winning everything in the 80s!

I did read the table as well as the all time one you did - quite frankly who cares (and what relevance) is it about spending money some 20 years ago... who cares... I am sure some teams like Portsmouth and Leeds spent a lot too and that didnt give them success!! If it was based say on the last 3 years then there is some relevance as that will affect the team now, but just because a team spends money, it doesnt mean they can succeed.

Yes, Liverpool have spent some big sums like Carroll, Downing, Henderson, Suarez, Sturridge, Mignolet, BUT they also recently received money back for Downing, Carroll, Torres, Mascherano... Teams have to spend to have a CHANCE of success, and Liverpool have done it with much less than the top 3.

It came about when you all became bitter and sad t***s.

Again, the difference in that list of money spent is wages.

On the pages I've seen, Liverpool are 5th in the league table of wages, behind City, Chelsea, United, Arsenal. The last table I can find is from 2012.

So, 4th biggest spenders, and 5th highest wage bill. You should be doing more than you have been.

And next it'll be, "But, but what about NET spend", "It's all really about NET spend". Anytime the amount of money Liverpool spend is brought into a discussion, this old gem rears its head, as it goes against the myth that you don't spend and are poor. Your team does spend a shed load of money, and have little to show for it.

See, still no explanation or reason why we're bitters. It's a name that does the rounds without anyone really knowing why....it's just name calling.

You're a joke. You support a great club with a wonderful history and a shared sense the tragedy that befell our club, but the vitriol I hear from many of your fans simply because we have won more and consequently have a bigger fan base and better spending power is pointless. There is your reason.

I liken the relationship between our clubs to that between Canada and America. The Canadians hate America for being huge and successful whilst most Americans are just bemused by their neighbours.

I'm a joke, or the supporters are a joke? I've already given my reasons for not liking Liverpool, and they are far removed from your view of Evertonians!

You're first sentence very well describes Liverpool's fans thoughts/feelings on Man United since the Premiership started, and to not see that shows the typical Kopite, rose-tinted blinkered view of themselves in being "Der greatest supporters in the World, lid".

And you brought up Canada because of the TorontoToffees crest? I'm not Canadian. I'm from Merseyside.

I must be making grave errors in football supporting then. I like and respect the blues. I don't wish them to lose. All I hope and want is for the reds to finish above them. Everton and Liverpool share a rich history and are two of the most successful sides in English football.

Another thing that gets me goat is the overuse of the term 'big team' when referring to clubs like Newcastle United. It's a joke!

I also couldn't care less about united. I don't follow their news and only know their results when I watch match of the day. The only football teams I watch are liverpool and Greece. United have been the dominant force this last twenty years an good luck to them, they had a drought very similar to out own. I simply don't care about them. Everton on the other hand, I are very much for. A great club. As long as they finish below Liverpool then all is alright by me. I am very happy for their success this season and would love for them to get top four. A champions league semi final Merseyside derby would be a dream come true.

Maybe people like me are the real football fan. I dot know.

Well it's still a novelty to you this Champions League malarky ;)

Cough, cough *two finals, one win*

Ignoring HateCrime as he doesn't understand what an analogy is.

Over the last few years Liverpool have been underachieving, but that happens when you change managers in quick succession. So 4th biggest spenders and 5th highest payer of wages means they are currently over achieving. :) Long may it last.

Though I doubt you'll agree. ;)

Cough, cough *two finals, one win*

But you're analogy was incorrect. Canadians, that I've gotten to know in the 10 years living here, feel superior to their US "cousins" below the 49th, and over the past many years, Canadians are on average richer than Americans.

I find it a little funny that, me as a Bitter, who supposedly has a vitriolic hatred of Liverpool FC ISN'T the one who has had to resort to name calling in this discussion, just to get points across ;)
