It's ironic that Brazil, who clearly played with the intention of kicking the life out of Rodrigez, have their star player injured and out of the competition. It's been a great world cup but very disappointing to see Brazil use tactics like that. Without Neymar and Silva, I don't see them having any chance against Germany.

It's odd (myself included) how many English people quite like Germany at the moment. We always used to have a soft spot for Brazil but for whatever reason it's the other way around now. I think it's down to all the players being familiar to us.

I'd tip Germany to beat Brazil without Neymar and Silva but you just get the feeling the gods are smiling on Brazil. I still think Argentina will lift the World Cup though.

I've had a soft spot for Holland since '78 and hope they finally win a World Cup. Beating Argentina and then Germany to do so would be sweet.

That's my earliest world cup memory - the ticker tape.

I read last week that Mario Kempes stayed in the background after the win and didn't even touch the world cup till about 30 years later. Very humble man.

It's not the gods smiling on Brazil it's Sepp and co.

They were a disgrace last night from first whistle to last. It was like watching Stoke.

There is no way they are beating Germany by his has been Germany's World Cup since the first ball was kicked.

Hup holland hup!

My earliest was

'77 was the first year I really took an interest in football, choosing to support the underdogs at 2 rare live broadcast games. United came through in the end to justify my faith in them and now I'm just waiting for Scotland to do the same :D

You certainly would not bet against Germany but who knows. I also quite like Germany despite them beating France in a frustrating game for me, I'd like with them, Holland or Belgium to win. My only issue with the first 2 are Robben and Muller whose diving drives me insane. Certainly Brazil are not endearing themselves to most people, despite the generally sycophantic commentary from the BBC and ITV each time they play.

Hoping for a Belgium win over Argentina now.

Always been the same. Never been keen on Brazil. Very rarely do they live up to the hype.

Couldn't believe how few cards there were in the game considering how many times just Rodriguez was kicked.

And did you see the size of the Grasshopper on his shoulder?

Why do Belgium play fellani? Has he done anything other than amble back and forth and elbow the odd player?

Well he did score the other day but yes - he's a bit of a waste of space.

Speaking of Suarez, he should watch this and learn how to deliver a real apology.

"My name is Lou Vincent and I am a cheat."

Holland v Costa Rica is an interesting game if not watching, into extra-time. Amazing chance \ scramble for Holland in the 3rd minute of injury time!

Dutch looking quite lazy for much of it. If I was a Man U fan could be concerned about some of van gaals tactics, far too long to put another striker on and kuyt as a rb?

Can't believe he subbed the keeper for penalties......... but it worked

I wouldn't be that concerned, semi-finals of the WC. Unlucky Costa Rica, thought you might do it at the end. A decent semi-final line up now!

I see it very differently. Really liked it, and he may be the reason I'll follow Man U.

Semi finals here we come :) however Costa Rica played well and defended superbly.

Not sure about that - given how busy their woodwork and keeper were.

We had to put up with Moyes last season. Total pragmatist and not what we're used to.

LVG very like Fergie in that he's prepared to make massive decisions to change games.

Controversially subbed RVP v Mexico to change system - it worked.

Subbed Cillessen tonight for pens - it worked

I can't say he'll be the second coming lol -but I'm happy that we've once again got a manager with some balls.

Agreed - perhaps it was the white shirts that made them stand out but even before they mentioned it on the commentary you could see how regimented that 5 at the back with 3 or 4 infront of them were. Very well drilled.

Costa were excellent and defended so well. However, many times in the 2nd half, there was no pressure at all put on their defence when they got ball from keeper. No closing down, and Costa had loads of time on the ball.

There's a lot of love for LVG for getting a 0-0 against CR. I seem to recall Hodgson doing the same...

Very very different game though...
Holland had majority of possession, England had equal
Holland had 15 shots on target out of 20, England 3 out of 8

But fair enough it was both 0-0 and England didn't get extra time penalties as they didn't make it through to this stage. As such Hodgson should have changed tactics sooner, get the likes of Rooney / Gerrard out etc...

Hopefully he'll sort out postboy, sure may be the top scorer/assists but obvious not enough...It will be interesting times...

Love him or hate him, Mourinho always makes substitutions that make a positive change to the game and there's very few managers that do that.
LVG keeps playing Fellani though - I'd be worried if I was a Man U fan. So far he's scored one goal, but ambles back and forth, can't keep a ball, it's like Holland play with 10 men

I really dont know why people thing this world cup campaign which sees LVG reach the semi final gives cause for concern to United fans ... Scotland's manager in 1986 was a complete loser too :D

Helps to have 100 mill of talent on the bench.

Um, Fellani plays for Belgium...

Who is Fellani?

Not impressed by Kruls antics at the shoutout. Very unsporting and would love to see FIFA take action.

Interesting decision by lvg. Even though his prem record is not that great, the psychological impact on the costa players worked.

Agreed, but nothing todo with the Dutch team and LvG in this tournament. :)

All he said was that he knows what their game is...Or so he said in his interviews with Dutch television...
