I had huge respect for David Dein and all the he helped us to achieve, and it was PHW who later admitted to having fired him when their visions for the future differed. Since 2005 PHW entirely reshaped the board with a group of people who won't challenge hiss leadership, which has become increasingly out-dated in the face of a changing football environment.
Basically I respect his efforts and am very thankful for how he's helped us up until the last 7 years or so. Since then I think he's seriously lost his way and needs to step aside for someone with a more progressive view of how to run a football club in the current climate.
I agree in terms of the 'behind the scenes' stuff at Arsenal and the 'direction' of the club however the lack of a trophy (esp a league title) is more down to what's gone on elsewhere in my opinion.
Take the whole sugar daddy thing out of the equation and Arsenal would have probably picked up a couple of titles in that period. I've shoved a line in around 2003/04 after which I would say things changed. Whether it be titles or the whole preoccupation with the 'top four' and all that brings - Arsenal and Liverpool are probably the two clubs most affected by it.
United v Arsenal used to be an 'even playing playing field' and as much as I loved it back then - I value the titles United have won over the money men all the more.
I just wish somebody else other than United (even Liverpool) could help put up a fight against them
