I think this article sums up pretty well what I think of the QPR's transfer policy. Without wishing to sound too much like Wenger, a team needs to be constantly building for the future. Not adding to the squad sheet huge names that are over the hill performance wise but still command big wages. Both as a financial policy and one to ensure survival, it was a terrible decision to make.

Southampton are a fantastic team that plays with heart and commitment that can't be bought by bringing in the big signings. They nurture talent from a young age, and consequently they play with an emotional commitment to the club. That's what I see as missing from QPR. There's no sense of passion for the club from the players, and no sense of the old nurturing the next generation. Just an owner who wants success and wants it now, and a manager who was all too keen to add quantity rather than quality.

The major concern has to be what happens to the club if the worst happens and you go down. The wage bill is already crippling in relation to revenue, take away the PL payout, factor in the decline in support through the turnstiles and everything else and it could be immensely costly to the club (I seem to remember posting similar about this during the transfer window).

I partly agree. I think I'm too depressed to analyse the article properly - however what is being said about us signing older players who effectively do not care I'm not sure about. Nelsen is the oldest we signed I think and certainly commited, as arguably are Zamora, Johnson etc. Cisse I think is just the way he always was, Rob Green, well I'm not quite sure what to say about Rob, but for whatever reason he did not have a great start with us.

When we got promoted we did it mainly on team spirit and one player much too good for the division, Adel Tarrabt. If we'd signed some key players then but kept the core we would certainly have done better. What we instead did, is sign some players before the take-over was complete who were not good enough, Gabiddon, Dyer etc - and then signed some more post takeover, and then signed some more in Jan, and then signed lots more this summer.

By summer we did not really have a real 'team' as such, so signing better players, which we did, whilst releasing plenty of others made sense. We did however not focus much on the key area we need to, the defence. We've looked dodgy all season defensively, more so than last season. We have been unlucky injury wise, in that 3 of our back 4 have been injured for a large number of matches, but still!

I'm going to stop now as this will turn into a very long essay - despite signing players the way we did, we have still been tactically inept - it does not take this long to organise simple things like who marks who at corners or organise your zonal marking. MY old Sunday League team would have been embarrassed by our defending, and we were terrible ourselves!

Anyway, I'd like Hughes to go, for us to appoint anyone but Redknapp, preferably someone from a lower division who is hungry and does not think they are doing us a favour by managing us. All I really want is to turn up on a Saturday (or whatever day matches get played nowdays), watch a team that is reasonably organised, is geared more towards attacking than defending, and winning a match periodically would be nice too, but I'll accept the first two for now in the hope the latter will follow! :D

Barca 3 up in the early kick off so it's could prove to be a big night for Celtic tonight at Benfica.

Good to hear ManU lost. ManU have an arrogant manager and arrogant players, I love seeing them lose. When ManU lose I often celebrate by buying cakes and sweets for my staff. Well done Galatasaray, more of the same please.

An ABU Saddo

They probably didn't understand the significance of the match given the Champions League table.

Anyway - gutted for Celtic tonight. So close and I bet qualification will just fizzle out for them now.

So now Chelsea are sounding out if Benitez would be interested in taking over from Di Matteo short term. What a joke!

RDM sacked by Chelsea. What a joke of a club.

Seems very odd at this stage of the season, unless they have somebody up their sleeve.Jose?

Why would Rafa take it knowing he's just a stand in for Guardiola?

25-1? You need a Delorean. ;)

Why wouldn't he?

He doesn't currently have a job. He knows it would be short term. Why not ran a bit of cash

Waiters are used to grabbing short term jobs here and there ;)

As a long standing Chelsea fan since as long as I can remember, I am bitterly disappointed and embarrassed with Chelsea FC, I have stood by them regardless of some of the whacky decisions made but this is the final nail in the coffin and the board should be ashamed !!!

You are this year's Liverpool!

Avram Grant is said to be on standby along with Benitez if Guardiola declines which if he has a brain he surely must

Benitez confirmed new man at The Bridge, well until the end of the season as interim manager.

I never really understand sacking someone to put someone in on a temp basis like this, though I supposed it worked last year! Not sure it will this time around though, I think this is a mistake he will regret but let's see!

Chelsea title challenge over then :D

I could never understand QPR sacking Warnock, then giving the job to Hughes, but that is football chairmen for you.

Benitez knows the score, he has been out of work for a while, and I dare say the package on offer will offset the short term of the contract.

Benitez at Chelsea could single handedly put an end to European recession. Just need Dalglish to replace Mancini now and the fun would be limitless.

I could understand it, we were playing poorly, but it was harsh and wrong in my opinion. But at least the thought was Hughes would do better and it was a long term plan (that may now become short-term). Is bringing in Benitez til the end of the season when the players know he will go logical, not for me.

When did Chelsea (Abramovich era) ever need to be logical ?

Roberto Di Matteo was only ever going to be a temp - a situation that was made difficult by the success he had.

Had Abromovich stuck with Di Matteo and opted for the long term approach - he may well have gone on to form a winning institution but we'll never know - that's the fun of zillionaire ownership.

I read somewhere tonight that Chelsea have paid out £89m to 'post' sacked manager contracts

As for Rafa It's crazy. I think he's a good manager but the fans forums make me chuckle. - RAWK view the FSW as some kind of messiah and are up in arms about him joining Chelsea. Chelsea's forum are devestated at his appointment - he spent a fortune on third rate players / fell short in the league / that public meltdown with the Fergie 'Fachts' / killed a CL winning Mourinho team etc

The FA have dropped the case against Clattenberg and charged Mikel with threatening and abusive behaviour.

The case that keeps on giving : popcorn smiley thing:

No surprise really regarding Clattenberg

Be interesting to see if he ever refs a Chelsea match again, you'd doubt but I guess he could insist that he is not excluded as he would not want his integrity questioned twice.

Well yes you and Martyn are certainly correct on the logic side of things for some owners.

Fans forums are always great for bringing the loonies out, I truly despair with some of the stuff put on them :gag:

Accusing someone of racism it as bad as being guilty of racism so should get a 4-8 game ban.

I completely agree. It's a terrible thing to behave in a racist way, and it's equally terrible to wrongly accuse someone of having done so. Regardless of the FA's findings you know that the next time a team feels hard done by from one of Clattenberg's decisions this type of allegation will be resurrected in the chants directed at him - that's one of the few things I hate about football; the behaviour of fans on some occasions. Despite being innocent he's been given a label that won't easily be shaken off. The players involved with making these allegations and the club themselves should be suitably reprimanded.

Agreed. He should be sueing him for slander.

sounds like old whiskey nose is back to his old bitching tricks.

"On his CV in two weeks he could have two world championships and nothing to do with the construction of the teams."

He added: "Jose Mourinho won the treble at Inter; Rafa took over and they won the world title without having to do anything."

I dont think there is a more childish manager of football than that old fart

Joe, of all your posts, this is the one I have most enjoyed reading!

Whilst you should of course never celebrate someone being sacked, he can't say he was not given the opportunity to do well.

Let's see who comes in, Redknapp seems to be the hot favourite, but let's see. Whatever happens, the football can't get any worse!

Never going to happen, and I doubt it would stand up. The real issue here are things like this being made public, including in the wider general public context of when people are accused of crime.

Not sure if he might have a case against Chelsea, sure they will get plenty of decisions going their way now!
