Got to put a word in for the Arsenal. Sounded a cracking game, though I'm yet to find the highlights, and goals for Giroud, Walcott and Arshavin are a major boost. Reading next, I'll take that!

Good to see a win last night for liverpool finally against the baggies - they seem to be our bogie team at the moment.

Also glad to see everton and city get dumped out, just a shame that united managed to beat newcastle.

Good that Giroud has got one, from what I have seen he has been pretty good other than not hitting the target and this will hopefully give him confidence.

Didnt see the game but would have liked it had Theo been given a go up top, Arshavin though I have no time for, puts in little effort and we should just give him away.

Why should Theo be given a go up top? I don't see how he deserves it.

Also, according to Wenger, even though Arshavin has not been at the top of his game for a couple of seasons his effort in training has not dipped...

Not seen it, but one of goals yesterday was described to me as Henryesque, and remember him getting a few like the great man. Who knows, he wants to play as a striker and why not give him a chance - if it doesnt work he goes back to the wing?

But this was against Coventry? Not exactly top competition - this works the same way you referenced Gervhinio's performance against Southampton, so keep it consistent :p

The main reason is he doesn't deserve to get that chance, far too inconsistent, better players vying for that position and his contract negotiations won’t have done him any favours – see Ramsey favoured on the right last week.

If Wenger did try him up top and he was awful, I’m pretty sure you’d be straight on here berating such a decision anywho ;)

Fantastic display by the kids. Assiadi looks like an absolute snip at 3m. Tricky, quick and end product. Worse player in a red shirt was the most expensive - Downing. No surprise to see all our attacks coming down Assiadi's flank.

Agree about Coventry but his finishing has been ok of late, and whats wrong with trying him. He is far more consistant than Gervinho and produces loads more. The Soton game was Gervinos only decent on in the last 20!

You didn't watch any pre-season, then?

In regards to 'why not try him' I've already said, no need to repeat myself.

It's no secret that I've always liked downing, but I've yet to see him live up to my expectations this season - despite the well known stats of no assists and goals in the PL last season, I still don't think he played badly. This season so far though I'm not of that same opinion. You watched almost every game last season too - what was your opinion of him last year?

Why not play with 2 up front, Theo and Giroud ? Not saying every game but its an option and a plan B which we never seem to have when needed.

Some very encouraging financial details released by Arsenal today.

As for the topic of Theo Walcott up front; I say give him a go. He's played there before with good results and despite what people say (rather unfairly in my opinion) he is a good finisher.

A rotation of Giroud, Podolski and Walcott to suit the defensive frailties of the opposition could provide the 'plan b' that we've sometimes missed. Walcott, when utilised effectively, can tear apart defences. He's certainly a better option up front than Gervinho, who plays much better out wide.

I was also pleased last night to see Wenger say Arshavin plays his best football in a central attacking midfield role which is precisely what I've been saying for a while. He could prove a real asset in non-PL competitions.

Agree, what a front 3!!

Also think Gervinho is best out wide, perferably behind the dugout!

I agree totally that he had a reasonable season. If our strikers had been awake he'd have had plenty of assists. This season he has been 50% the player of last.

What about Henderson? I thought he was decent against Young Boys, but gave it away too much and played too many low percentage balls last night. I really want him to come good Though.

Yesil looked dangerous and direct until he ran out of steam and Wisdom has really impressed me as did Robinson and Suso again with his cameo.

Hasin was the main man though. Absolute class.

So Terry gets a four game ban and Suarez got eight. How does that work??

Different circumstances, wait until the FA release the reasoning behind their verdict.

What gets me though, would this kind of thing be a sackable offence for employers to contemplate or would this type of thing always go to court re garding employment rules.

Typical FA. All he did was question what Anton had claimed he said. So when rio retweets a racially offensive term he gets no ban!!!

Everyone knows the FA is incompetant, this proves it!!

Well, Chelsea banned a fan for life for racially abusing Drogba a few months ago...

Sorry mate, but you're confusing what Terry said he did with what he actually did. There was not enough evidence either way to convict him in law of that, but the magistrate made it clear he'd been a lucky boy.

Well there is no conclusive evidence either way so in my eyes it's not guilty.

Well you typed as if you knew what happened so I responded to that.

To my old mans a dustman....

John Terry's a racist
He wear's a Nazi's hat,
His dad will sell you charlie,
His mum will rob your flat!

I see no irony in your spelling of incompetent ;)

As an aside, who do you hate most - Wenger or The F.A.? :p

8 year contract for Pardew - that's erm, long....

Just means Newcastle will have to pay him even more now when they sack him next year.

Or that they'll be due more compensation in the event a larger team tempts him away ;)

I can't remember exactly but I think the Suarez report started with a baseline 4 game ban for the language and became extended due to 'aggravated nature', 'repeated usage' (7 times) plus 'unreliable and inconsistent' statements from himself and others at Liverpool FC.

Why should Suarez be punished for other people's inconsistent statements?

I've no idea Joe. I just heard somebody on the radio today (after the Terry news) talking about why the FA handed out the length of ban that they did back then.

I believe (though may be corrected) that he got more than the staturory 4 match ban due to the repeated use of the offensive term. Terry got 4 matches as everyone acknowledged it was only used once.

Sadly for Terry as Chelsea have a no tolerance policy on racism he is to be banned from Stamford Bridge for life so will only be able to play away matches

Hmmm I think I'll go with Chris' version! In many ways it's no bad thing, players will know he is the boss to stay, I firmly believe when players know the manager is not going anywhere it is better for everyone concerned.
