Its the players behind all those I have no confidence in! The fact that we dont seem to train on defending!

The reason Wenger is looking to sell Song to Barcelona and replacing him with someone more defensive. Also, we have Stevie Bould as number 2.

If you watched the team from game 1 to 38 last season you'd have surely seen a huge change in our defending. It's not as solid as City's but to say we don't train when it's come on leaps and bounds is ridiculous!

I am not a bitter Manc, Deano, I have nothing to be bitter about - I am a realistic football supporter.

You have lasts season zero trophy count to be bitter about. And losing the prem in the last minute of the season.

But that does not make me bitter, I applaud anyone who can beat United to the trophies.

There is a difference between bitterness and disappointment.

One more point, both you and Dean were brought up when Liverpool were the domineering team in England, I was brought up when we were restructuring (to put it mildly) and have seen highs & lows, nears & fars, wins and losses, new mangers come and go with a plethora of so called great players arrive but no success. I therefore think I am qualified to comment from experience what I think will happen to the football teams during the next few years.

That pretty much sums up why most people can't stand Man U fans. An arrogant expectation that they are a given for all trophies.

Last season hopefully brought them all down a peg or two.

Ah the banter is starting early this year LOL

I think I'll wait till the last minute before making any predictions.

He's certainly gone down in many QPR fans' estimation now.

I guess time will tell if either of them do the business this season.....but I ain't holding my breath!! :shake:

But seriously, going from: "For many years I have thought he (Diouf) was the gutter type - I was going to call him a sewer rat but that might be insulting to sewer rats.

I think he is the lowest of the low"
to letting him in the squad inside 18 months?! :cuckoo:

I blame Ken Bates.....but then, I always do!! :D

Interesting start for Rangers in Division 3 today getting a late goal to earn a 2:2 draw against Peterhead.

Tuesday night should be fun at Pittodrie. Fergie bringing a mix of existing and past United players back to Aberdeen for Neil Simpson's benefit match.

Up late (sort of working) but watching 'The Big Match Revisited' on ITV4

It's West Ham v Stoke from 1983

Francois Van der Elst is playing for West Ham.

I'd forgotten all about him but I had a friend who worshipped him.

Watching the community shield I can't understand what the commentators are talking about. For me that was a stonewall red card

I don't think it's so much of the red card, more the fact that the Tories incident went against Chelsea when the city player was already on a yellow, poor performance from the ref if you ask me !!!

I agree definitely a red card offence. I don't think there was any malice in it at all but it could have caused an injury so therefore must be deemed dangerous. I like ivanovic though so I do feel for him. I'm a Newcastle fan but my money is on Chelsea for the league title this year

I have to agree but the rules state that it has to be with intent, aggression otherwise it's a yellow and their was none of the above so, still a poor performance from the ref IMO

Didn't see that incident but the commentators on the game were both calling the red card harsh in isolation. I found myself wondering if they were watching a different game?

I do think it was a little harsh too IMO

It was Red card for using excessive force. There was no need to tackle with both feet.

But that's just it, it was not excessive force, left leg was on the ground and right knee was bent !!!

It looked a lot worse than it was I agree and worthy of a yellow not red

Sounds like the commentators are going back on what they were saying and conceding it was red now. They said a lot of Chelsea fans can to see it on their monitors at half time and went away satisfied the ref made the right call

look where he caught his leg, no where near ground level.

I never said it was, I just don't think it was excessive force

Stick on red card, in my opinion, I guess it would have been viewed as serious foul play and therefore under the laws of the game that can be a straight red card. The fact is that with the studs showing and it was over the ball I would be calling for a red if it was against my team.

The laws of the game doesn't state anything about intent or aggression btw, see page 39 of the laws of the game for sending off offences http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/affederation/generic/81/42/36/lawsofthegame_2012_e.pdf

I've just got in from the supermarket. I thought is was a 3:00pm kick off LOL

Looking at the score I'll probably give it a miss now anyway.

"Using excessive force" means that the player has far exceeded the necessary use of force and is in danger of injuring his opponent.
- A player who uses excessive force must be sent off.

See the above picture, he was very close to braking his leg.

If the Man City players studs where in the ground it would have resulted in a bad injury.

thats the image that mrc was talking about.

It's not showing. Unless a tiny blue square with a question mark is what you wanted to show
