Carroll off to West Ham

Looks like a good move all round if it comes off. West Ham get a potential relegation surviving boost, Liverpool possibly get to see him at his best and, and then sell him. Reunited with Nolan, probably good for him.

Carroll off to West Ham

I heard something like £2m for this coming season on loan with £17m to buy if Premier League status is retained.

Not sure if anything has been confirmed though.

On a different note

Reuters are reporting that the General Motors Co shirt sponsorship of Manchester United announced earlier today may be as much as $600m.
$70m (£45m) a year (at least double the current fee paid by insurance broker Aon) as well as a $100m (£65m) activation fee.
I'd read earlier today something along the lines of a record £28m per year so it's bonkers if the figures Reuters are reporting are correct.

Suarez / LFC were obviosly done because of his admission followed by contradicting statements & unreliable evidence.

As far as FA charges go - the Terry case remains to be seen but again it's another case of verbals in the heat of a game found (rightly) wanting by the Magistrate but yet the FA plod on under different rules. Something I have no problem with up to a point.

The whole Twitter thing with footballers (Ferdinand in this case) is very interesting though.

As far as my employer is concerned - I have very clear rules when it comes to being online and I'm a nobody but I certainly have to consider tweets. Why footballers should be any different leaves me perplexed.

i shall miss caroll, hoepfully he'll go to the hammers have a superb season but the hammers get relegated and he comes back to us on top form

I just don't think Rodgers sees him fitting into his style - it's unfortunate as he definitely has the potential. A good back up you might say, but an expensive one at that.

well rodgers has said its unfair to say that of him and I think he could play a role, more than just a backup. His hold up play is exceptional and he is one of the best in the air. he's a target for corners, crosses and free kicks and he can hold the ball in the area to pass off for the quicker players to play off and do the tippy tappy stuff. I think he has potential to adapt.

we wont see that at west ham though where he'll just be used as a meathead to hammer the goal into the back of the net from close range

I think Rodgers is making a huge mistake here. Ok, at £35m he was clearly overpriced, but he is decent at holding the ball up and good in the air. Could see him at Man U playing with Rooney, and would not be unhappy at seeing him as the no.9 at Arsenal.

OK, so why is he going on loan then?

because I think rodgers is making a mistake, there are going to be times this season for example at a place like stoke - or west ham where he's not going to be able to play his attractive style of football and he's not going to have the option to bring on a strong forward who can muscle out the defense of a physical team like stoke. At times like that I think he'll come a cropper

What a surprise, Bale is fit and injury free again. Either Spurs have got Jesus in their medical team who's performing some genuine miracles or Bale needs to grow a pair of balls and accept that not every tackle is going to be clean but that doesn't mean there's malice there. Pathetic press releases from Bale and AVB, but it's no less than we've come to expect!

I think bale and avb must be suffering from Wengeritis. Thou shalt not tackle!

Enjoyed the GB match tonight. Played pretty well I thought.

the welsh players can hold their heads high, they are really playing with a lot of passion and i think it's filtering through too all the english players too

Yep, looking good. Our midfield is looking really strong and was able to dominate for most of the game until they heaped the pressure on. Bellamy played a blinder again and Sturridge got his goal which is hopefully one more step on his road to recovery and sharpness following his illness.

I hadn't really given it much thought till they mentioned how nice it was to see a competition where it seems like the players are just enjoying themselves and going about their game without too much in the way of pressure.

Who knows - I appreciate the press aren't exactly killing the team like they do during Euro & World Cup campaigns but perhaps there's something to be learned in terms of the mental approach for future international competitions.

Had to chuckle at the quote from Luis Suarez

"I think they jeer me and they boo me because they must be scared of facing a player like me," he said. "They fear me, but that doesn't affect me.

I just asumed it might have been down to his previous problems with diving, card baiting, two footed tackles, ref hounding, spitting, kicking, eye gouging, racially abusing, biting, handballing, hair pulling or just generally being a sneaky little disgrace of a man LOL

What's this? Phil moaning about Suarez again? Wonders will never cease.

Haha well said! Even my love of Cavani wasn't enough to stop me being delighted to see Suarez get knocked out.

Typical. I get Uruguay and Spain in sweepstake, both in the top 3 or 4 favorites and both on way home already.

Just sat by the britannia stadium in stoke, looks pretty good.

you should pop in for a cuppa, i'm only 20 mins from alton towers. We were there on friday for my daughters 3rd birthday

I wasn't allowed on the nutty squirrel. My eldest has had me on oblivion, nemesis, air, Rita, sub terra over and over again. Good fun all round. I'd have been up for a drink joe but I wasn't in control of the driving. Back home in sunny Warrington now.

i was there 4 weeks ago for the first time in about 18 years and thought the battling galleons were brilliant even though i got totally soaked.
couldn't be bothered queing for an hour for each of the rides you went on though.

I worked out it must have been about 18 years since I was last there. With a heap of kids all adamant on the fast rides I bought the 'fast passes' which helped jump those long queues.

The weather forecast was poor but it turned out nice so even without the fast passes the waiting was no more than 20 mins.

The staff on the rides were really nice because if the kids used up one of their fast passes to jump the queue (one per ride) they didn't score it off if they hadn't had the benefit of jumping a big queue so they just kept using them.

I did get a go on the pirate galleons though

blimey phill, the fast passes for all them rides will have cost you an arm and a leg!

My wife has a yearly pass to alton towers so she goes every few weeks with the littleuns, the storybook land is great for them and its a top day out.

Funny you should mention the battle galleons as I went on them on friday with my father in law for the first time and I really did not predict that i was going to get that wet. I was drenched!

So, are we up for another Premier League prediction table? Last year's results here, though we started after the season had commenced:

TP_League_Final.JPG

There was not much in the differentiating of points last year so I'd suggest we change it and predict the whole table with scores as following:

Correctly predicted in bottom 3 or top 6 - 1 point
Correctly predicted in exact place - 3 bonus points (does not have to be in bottom 3 or top 6).

All entries in by lunchtime on the 18th August - I'll then collate into an XLS so I can update the scores easily each week.

I'll just need your 1-20.

Ah it's always nice to be reminded of beating my mortal enemy dinners.

Yes I will be in

good to hear suarez signed a new deal. I really thought he would be poached this season but it appears liverpool have secured him.

Unfortunate. I think everyone else longed to see the back of him!
