Re Liverpool and a takeover. The reason we're not being considered is the stadium.

A draw is ideal for us today really.

I guess a Spurs win would be the best result for Liverpool in terms of trying to move up the table but it would be the worst result in terms of chasing 4th place.

I think it will be a draw, 2-2, most likely with arsenal coming from behind. A draw keeps things open, but if spurs win they will finish ahead of us as I don't think we can go on a good enough run of form, but if we win we will finish ahead as their bottle will go like last year.

So, player of the year...

Suarez, michu, Rvp, bale... No other contenders I guess, although wilshire has been awesome despite having 17 months out. Split between Rvp and Suarez.

The topic of an Arsenal takeover is an interesting one. I've argued from the off that Kroenke's interest was never in long-term ownership of the club, and considering our lack of transfer investment despite the cash sitting in the bank it certainly suggests that he's had a mind towards enhancing our enterprise-value rather than our results on the pitch. Now, sitting on the edge of our first finish outside the top 4 for 16 years the club stands to lose out considerably in terms of finances and reputation (granted, the new TV deal can largely offset the financial penalty for this season) and so it strikes me as a very good time to get maximum value for his shares, which adds to the credibility of such a bid happening.

It also provides a very interesting alternative to Usmanov, who to my mind has always been a worse prospect than Kroenke. Just. The last thing I want to happen is for us to turn into Chelsea. Abramovich's ownership and money has turned the fans into the most fickle, impatient, and hostile fan base in the league. I'd hate for us to go that route and feel that we have an entitlement to success.

Where the club has fallen short is in utilising our resources and brand. We've long undersold ourselves on the commercial front, and for too long our profits haven't been reinvested in strengthening the squad. If new ownership could cause a shake-up and see a release of those funds we already have into transfers then that would be ideal. I'd be much more reluctant to see our appeal for FFP undermined by a new ownership flooding the club with their own money.

A shake-up at management level (Peter Hill-Wood, Ivan Gazidis, Richard Law etc.) would be very welcome.

It's an interesting idea, but I'll take a lot of convincing before I support it entirely.

i would have said it was split up until the last few weeks when RVP has been pretty ordinary. Suarez however has continued to be excellent so he's a clear favourite

I know that realistically 4th is out, but until that's mathematical impossible I'll live in hope. Especially if we keep playing like this.

It'll probably end up 0-0 now. ;)

Obviously I'm going for Suarez. Not only has he scored the goals, but he's made loads and he's such a warrior.

If it was just on the consistent football they have played over the season, it would be between Michu and Suarez imho.

RvP may be scoring the goals, but he hasn't looked as good as he did last year for me. :shake: Bale has only started to turn it on the last few months.

Michu has actually dropped off top form the last month or so, (interestingly it seemed to coincide with when the Spanish national manager came to watch him) but because of how he's blown away any expectations that anyone had since he arrived, he deserves a look in, especially if he starts scoring regularly again. Suarez has been by far the best player of the year, but he probably won't win any player of the year poll because of his reputation.

I doubt he'll lose any sleep over it though. :)

I imagine Bale will win going by the media storm that's been whipped up surrounding his performances.

RVPs goals have directly won the most points and that for me is the most important thing so I think he deserves it most, as hard as that is for me to say.

Going by that logic it will probably always go to the highest scorer in the most successful team.

There would be a lot of players who wouldn't have won over the years, defenders especially. ;)

The best player of the year may not be a forward.

I hope Suarez wins some sort of award otherwise there will be a Scouse internet campaign and another conspiricy theory ;)

I was choosing from the list of Michu, Suarez, RVP and Bale. As it happens I don't think there's a defender in with a shot of that title this year, given how biased the PL has come towards attacking football and outscoring the opponent.

Of course, as a Liverpool fan you'll always be of the belief that Suarez is the best so there's little point debating it.

Suicide mode activated. I tweeted that Lennon would score today with all the focus on Bale. Not something I'm happy to be right about though!

If Michu had kept scoring at the same rate throughout, then I think he may have deserved it just because he seemed to come from nowhere, but Suarez has been on another level over this season, as RvP was last year. I don't care who the best player plays for  as long as it is the best player, and not a media darling, or as for many years, a British player before a foreign player who wins. :)

Though I would prefer the best obviously played for my team. ;-)

At the moment he does, whether that is acknowledged by the media and/or his peers or not. :)

Makes no difference who wins player awards really as it's only ever 'opinions'

I have Mertesacker in dream team and its gonna go down as a Bale og!!!

Huge result for Spurs.

Think it's done and dusted now in terms of Liverpool not getting Champions league football again

Giroud is not fit to lace RVP boots, Vermaelen poor again, Monreal Why? Only Wenger knows!

Exactly, Wenger no clue again....

Giroud I like, at least he tries... but catching Spurs, no chance. Poor today, no chances near the end of the game, at least you would have thought a team losing to a rival would have fought. Too many rubbish players not playing as a team, AGAIN!!!

Wengers has been replacing world class players with average, that's the problem! And before any says its because we don't have the money blah blah blah ... I'm not listening. Silent Stan and Wenger out!

Nothing wrong with average players, if they are coached correctly. Man for man, we are miles better than Everton or Liverpool, but in terms of points, very close. As I said a while back, Liverpool (if they buy well in summer) will be a threat next season, and looking good at moment.

Take today...

Lennon
Parker
Bale
Siggurdson
Adebayour
Dembele

Or...

Arteta
Wilshire
Walcott
Ramsey
Giroud
Cazorla

Even with Bale, we have the better players, add in Podolski and the Ox (compared to Defoe and Livermore/Holtby)... who has the best players???

Joking aside - who would you rather have than Wenger ?

Do you honestly think he's a bad manager in terms of managing the players he has or is it down to how the club is being run - in which case we're back to how much control Wenger himslef actually has ?

As I have said, does the board coach the players on defensive duties. We have some very good player, if not up to the standard of Man U/Man C. Yet we consistently play poorly. Who knows who is actually to blame for players. maybe hill Wood chose Gervinho, maybe Wenger has £100m to spend, maybe he had to blackmail the board into spending £1m on Jenkinson...

I believe he has a massive influence on the players bought, and he has been poor in recent years on this. Maybe its too much to expect another Viera at £3.5m, or Anelka at £500k, but the majority of recent signings have been average. He certainly has (or should have) a BIG influence on how they are motivated and train. We are consistently poor defensively and also seem to lack desire.

Laudrup, Moyes, Martinez, plus probably no end of foreign coaches who I have no knowledge of (like most had not heard of Wenger before he came here).

Thomas Vermaelen is half the player we signed, why?
Arshavin was world class, joined Arsenal and became average, why?
12 players out on loan because we cant move them on, why?
Gervinho, WHY??

To be fair after 1st year vermaelen looked world class. But yes, gervinho.... WHY.

Not looked word class, he was world class, so what's gone wrong? Can't blame silent stan so has to be management.

TBH, I'm feeling a little down today, don't know why.

So we're back to the quality of players rather than how he manages them.

Wenger used to be great at picking up gems on a budget and Arsenal ultimately benefited from them from a playing point of view.

Things have changed in the Premier League. It used to be a case of Arsenal being the strongest team when United dipped but now there's City and Chelsea.

Whats wrong with pitching a Champions League 4th place when the alternative is spending zillions to the same end ?

Good managers at their clubs but for all we know they couldn't do whatever it is Wenger has a job description.

Sir Alex Ferguson ;)

 Fergie wiped a mess of a club out and started from scratch. He'd have been sacked had he done the same 10 years later. From a motivational point of view I'm sure hed do a short term job but he'd be about 120 years old if you wanted a full Fergie club
make over.
