this is what happens if everything is equal at end of group stage

• (a) higher number of points obtained in the matches among the teams in question

• (b) superior goal difference in the matches among the teams in question
• (c) higher number of goals scored in the matches among the teams in question
• (d) If, after having applied criteria a) to c), two of those teams still have an equal ranking, criteria a) to c) are reapplied exclusively to the matches between the two teams in question to determine the final rankings of the two teams. If this procedure does not lead to a decision, criteria e) to i) apply in the order given
• (e) superior goal difference in all the group matches
• (f) higher number of goals scored in all the group matches
• (g) if the two teams have played each other in the final group game, the team to progress would be decided on penalties. Otherwise it comes down to the Uefa national team coefficient ranking system
• (h) fair play conduct of the teams (final tournament)
• (i) drawing of lots.

right ok so if holland win 1-0 and germany win 1-0 we'll be looking at a table like this

so to go through these points

(a) higher number of points obtained in the matches among the teams in question

• (b) superior goal difference in the matches among the teams in question

all 3 have the same - how come this didn't come into play in greece russia? they did head to head goals scored before goal difference

• (c) higher number of goals scored in the matches among the teams in question

portugal and denmark will have scored 3 goals each, holland only 2.

• (d) If, after having applied criteria a) to c), two of those teams still have an equal ranking, criteria a) to c) are reapplied exclusively to the matches between the two teams in question to determine the final rankings of the two teams. If this procedure does not lead to a decision, criteria e) to i) apply in the order given

so is this where the head to head comes in with denmark portugal? because they both have a better goals scored than holland, holand get thrown out of the equation? If thats the case why did head to head come first last night with greece vs russia and not goal difference like stated here?

(b) superior goal difference in the matches among the teams in question

i assume this means because greece beat russia it does say matches between teams in question

It goes on points scored head to head

Then goal difference

Then Goals scored

Greece beat Russia so they have 3 points in their head to head, Russia have 0 points. Therefore Greece go through.

Right but how can you do head when there are 3 teams on the same points? It has to go on gd first in that instance, which is the same. Then goals scored. Only then do you eliminate holland and that's when head to head comes in right?

I think it depends on who beat who to get their 3 points. If only one of the teams got their 3 points against a team that aren't one of those 3 (ie, they lost to both the other teams) then they would be out.

Otherwise, as you say, it goes to goal difference, then goals scored and then, if still not decided, I believe it goes on UEFA rankings.

In your example, head to head doesn't solve it as each beat one of the others, therefore it would go to goal difference (still doesn't solve it) then goals scored. So Holland would be out on Goals scored and Denmark would be out as Portugal beat them AND will be higher ranked.

I need to go and lie down!

Yes that's it exactly! Glad we got there!

cheers Marc for posting the table. I'm in a respectable 8th. Mind you with lasts nights outcome I think I may have dropped a couple of places.

Me too!

So whoever is first is not in your 'we' clan? I'd like to shake his hand:lol:

Can't believe how open the game is \ how bad both defences are. Can't see Holland keeping a clean sheet bar more poor Portugese finishing, which means they would need at least 3!

tp, please undo the swear filter for this thread so I can tell you what I think of **** **** Ronaldo!!!! Pretty please.

Just seen a stat that Spain made over 800 passes on their last match against Ireland. Roy hodgson commented that the only way England could achieve that is if they put Wayne Rooney on mastermind :)

Haha if he actually said that then that is gold!

What happens if Denmark and Portugal win? Can Germany be eliminated? All three on 6 points but head to head is the same as earlier, Denmark beat Germany, Germany beat Portugal, Portugal beat Denmark.

If they won by 1 goal each then they would all have gd of +1

Who would go through?

I think on talk sport it said Denmark have to win by 3-2 as a minimum winning score for germany to go out and of course Portugal win.

The Netherlands are losing their third match as they've just gone 2-1 down to Portugal.

They had a tough group but I don't think anybody expected they would finish with zero points from the group stage.

Or maybe they actually WANT to go home early, at least that's what it looks like from the way they're playing!

Netherland's performance has been pathetic. They were always going to be defensively frail but you'd have thought their team was full of goals. Goes to show that incredible players don't make a great team!

I think defensively frail is generous!

So I got rid of Ronaldo out of my FF Team.......... Good grief!!!

season fixtures have been announced. I always look at the first 5 games and the last 5 to get a sense.

for liverpool we drew city, arsenal and man u in the first 5 games of the season. Easy start then :gag:

fairly easy start and end for man united with only arsenal as a bit threat in the last 5 games

city have liverpool and arsenal in the start and spurs at the end.

Looks like this year isn't going to be as dramatic as last at the end of the season but you never know

Ugh Arsenal's final game is away to Newcastle. Think we can put that down as a loss straight away! Newcastle are fast becoming our kryptonite!

Our first game is Sunderland and they'll be looking to compound the misery they caused us last season. I really don't like the way this fixture has shaped up!

I never subscribe to easy starts or easy run ins. You say United have an easy finish - they dropped vital points against teams you would have expected them to beat towards the end of last season.

Anyway - why do you look at Liverpool's last 5 fixtures fixtures - they'll be meaningless and you'll be following City again by about Christmas ;)

Home to Swansea on the opening day. Looks a good fixture but we were at home to Bolton last year and we lost 4-0! :gag:

Away to Liverpool on the last day. The jokes have already started on QPR forums. One being that we might be able to do the scousers a favour if they're vying with Man Utd for the title. :naughty:

that is a good joke....... Man united won't even be in contention by that point :D:D:D

Bendtner receives a one match ban and €100,000 fine for showing personal sponsorship on his underwear. FC Porto were fined just €20,000 for fans racially abusing Balotelli.
