i dont doubt its the right move, but what were chelsea thinking not selling him whilst in contract so as to get some money in?

I'm glad they didn't!!!!:D

I'm glad they didn't!!!!:D

why?

He's leaving for free, so surely it would have been better to sell him this summer for money rather than let him go on a free?

Last year he wanted a 2 year contract extension- it was the perfect situation - give him the 2 year extension, he plays the year and then now when he is redy to go he has a year left so chelsea sell him and get money in their pocket

Newcastle have picked up Romain Amalfitano on a free. Apparently a really tidy playmaker. They're an inspiration in the transfer market!

The FA has given Joey Barton a 12 match ban. Thoroughly deserved!

It's hard to argue against, wonder if we are able to sack him. I doubt it.We can all await his tweets on the matter for the next 7-8 months before he plays again *sigh*

Good discussion on talk sport just now with Gordon Taylor and others.

The FA have no balls. Pigs like Barton should be thrown out of the game forever. He is a disgrace. People like him and John Terry truly are scum of the earth. I stopped supporting England during Italia 90 and I am hoping that they get knocked out at the group stage. Including Terry in the squad was shameful. I will proudly be wearing the white and green jerseys of my favourite team, and the red of España too.

Good to see common sense and rational thinking... NOT.

Why is Terry scum of the earth? He knobbed a mates wife... happens every day, been sent off... happens to many players including stupid sendings off like Barca, been 'accused' of using racial language... at this stage he is innocent of that so cannot or should not be judged. Fine, you may not like him, but to call him scum and that he should not be part of the squad on a personal dislike is crazy.

With Barton, yes, he was stupid. Although despite us going on about how disgraceful it was, we all enjoyed watching it again and again, and personally i love watching a good dust up on the pitch! He should not have kicked off, but I can see he was angry that Tevez got away with his actions. With Kompany it was head to head, as we see in many games, and if anything Balotelli approached him. Something like a 6 game ban would have been fair I think. Especially when you consider how some players cheat and go out to (and actually do) break other players legs and get a 3 game ban if that. At times Barton doesn't help himself, but I really do think he gets unfair treatment.

Good to have a Yeovil fan on here, how do you think you'll get on next year?

What about Craig Bellamy... every year he is in trouble and throwing chairs at people or picking fights.

I can't stand Craig Bellamy. He's like an angry Norman wisdom. You won't get me changing my mind by mentioning Craig Bellamy. Ban him too for all i care.

I like Craig Bellamy.

I like Craig Bellamy.

I hate home when playing against my team, think his a good player ad entertaining too. Always gives 110% too which for me is a big thing.

Just remembered Rooneys forearm smash last season v Wigan? Did he get punished for that, seem to think he got away with it which is why I do feel for Barton. If Barton had doe the same people would be shouting for a 6 game ban.

I think Barton's punishment is fair enough but agree in comparison to what some others get away with it is extreme. He just does not help himself though.

But that's the whole point Simon. The elbow on Tevez was dealt with on the pitch by the referee. He was given a red card and faces a 4 match ban, the same as anyone else who'd had their second of the season would.

This case is different because, having been red carded, he violently assaulted another player (from behind) and attempted to head butt a third. Which of the other players you mentioned has done that?

That's a very good point.

Joey Barton's troubled career:

December 2004: Stubs a lit cigar into the eye of Manchester City team-mate Jamie Tandy during club's Christmas party.

July 2005: Involved in an altercation with a 15-year-old Everton fan at City's team hotel in Bangkok. Later fined eight week's wages by City for his involvement.
September 2006: Drops his shorts in front of Everton fans following City's 1-1 draw at Goodison Park.

May 2007: Suspended for the rest of the season by City after a training-ground altercation with Ousmane Dabo.

May 2009: Playing for Newcastle, Barton is sent off against Liverpool for a late challenge on Xabi Alonso. Later suspended until further notice by his club.
November 2009: Charged with violent conduct by the FA after allegedly punching Blackburn's Morten Gamst Pedersen during a Premier League match.

August 2011: Transfer listed by Newcastle after a number of Twitter comments criticising the club.

May 2012: Now playing for QPR, Barton is dismissed for striking Manchester City's Carlos Tevez. Then involved in altercations with Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany. Later charged with two acts of violent conduct by the FA.

Oh, and lets not forget this:

Ok, lest have some context here... while he has done some silly stuff like the stubbing of a cigar, most is just normal everyday football stuff.

Drops your shorts to fans... many, many players have goaded opposition fans - Neville springs to mind, but it happens a lot, especially if players return to old clubs.

Training ground bust up - happens at every club, from man u down to my old weekday 5 aside team. Most players have probably had a dust up at some time.

Sent off for late challenge - happens to a lot of players including top internationals like Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard (probably) and thinking back to the end of last season, lots of players were sent off for similar.

Punching Pederson - slaps or punches happen a lot

Twitter at Toon - a new thing but many other players have fallen foul of this.

So when you look at it, he has done a few things like the cigar, cctv stuff but most is run of the mill football stuff. The likes of Gary Neville, Patrick Viera, Roy Keane, Martin Keown could all probably have similar lists, as could Bellamy, Carroll and Suarez and Liverpool.

I think I have worked it out.

Cambsno is actually Joey barton. That's why he vehemontly defends him all the time. Think about it - have you ever seen joey barton and cambsno online at the exact same time?

Personally speaking I'm not sure that's the kind of context that can simply be brushed off as 'silly'.... ;)

Every era of football has had the hardmen, thugs and yobbo's. Barton is no different. They weren't born to be great and not educated to be particularly good at handling the fame and fortune that's handed to them Having said that, nowadays for all the pressure that is lumped upon them they are more looked after, more managed and more directed than ever before.

Sadly it appears Barton knows what he's doing most of the time, and is more comfortable with being infamous for his behaviour rather than famous for his abilities.

I was wondering the very same thing.

It's reminds me very much of the Joescrivens is actually Cilla Black revalations ;)

How do you like my new tattoo?

Suarez Alert..........

Fifa president Sepp Blatter asks for an alternative to penalty shootouts, challenging Franz Beckenbauer's Task Force Football 2014 panel to propose another way to settle matches. Blatter tells the Fifa Congress that football "loses its essence as a team sport" when it goes to penalty kicks.

What does he expect them to come up with?

Joe, you've been watching those videos again of young semi-naked men having a tug and you couldn't resist sharing :nono:

As an aside, I heard the reason that the FSG/Martinez talks have stalled because they're trying to get Whelan to allow the Wigan goalscoring song to be used at Anfield. :D

I really wish this guy would just go away!http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/may/25/sepp-blatter-penalty-shoot-outs

He's now conveniently saying that we need an alternative to penalties. Obviously the Chelsea vs Bayern game was such an unjust way to win his precious champions league that he just could not handle that penalties was the deserved outcome for the team that obviously played the better football. As far as I remember (and i don't remember the game in any great detail:eek:) that it was 1-1 after extra time. Maybe a an x-factor style voting system will be the way forward.

Typical batter, speaking crap again.

The neutrals love penalty shootouts. There is no other fair way.

See ruddy is out of the squad, shame, as I would have played him as no2 keeper. Why o why is butland the standby keeper, someone who has never played for Birmingham and has been on loan at Cheltenham. I appreciate that 3rd choice is unlikely to play at all, but what if hart gets suspended and green is injured or something? Surely someone like James, or another championship keeper must be available? Or even someone like Ben Amos at man u (assuming he is English) who has at least played a game or 2 at high level and faces good players in training.

Eden Hazard

Amusing Interview on French TV regarding his future. He's obviously giving nothing away till June 2nd when we'll know who's got him.

He has said that all offers are fine from a financial point of view and that his choice has been made based on the conversation about where he will be played and whether he will be regular starter.

I wouldn't worry about it to much. If they ever had to bring in a third goal keeper then goodnight!

Perhaps Downing has a side to his game that none of us knew about.

It all makes sense now.
