Gareth Barry's job isn't scoring. It's breaking up play, holding the midfield.

Stuart Downing's job is an attacking wide player - providing assists and popping up to score the occasional goal. (This is going round in circles). Haha, and you put him in your starting 11, you truly are an amazing poster.

Also, I wasn't saying that scoring against Wolves was less/more important in the PL - you said that. I asked for stats outside the PL, which you didn't supply...

I'd play

Hart

Johnson Cahill Terry Cole

Parker

Walcott Lampard Young

Wellbeck Carroll

Against the best teams I'd swap Carroll out for Barry.

Until Rooney's ban is over (if we last longer than that!) then it'd be a Rooney Wellbeck front 2.

Here's what you said:

Surprised by Downing (of course the stats referring to his PL games are important - he's a midfielder - he should be assisting and popping up with some goals).

Thats where this all started and I asked the question why PL game stats were important yet cup stats not

You are joking. U would pick downing ahead of Walcott? Walcott is not perfect but miles better than downing.

No I am not joking. That would be my starting 11. I like walcott but he can only run in a straight line. Also, can walcott even play on the left?

I've just started a Fantasy Football League on Sky Sports for the Euros if anyone fancies joining? League name Talk Photography...creatively!

Haha, I haven't said that cup stats are not important - I said if you find them I'll digest them. I only know his PL stats as they have been banded around since the end of the season, so I referred to them. Nothing wrong with that. He played for the PL whole season and didn't do his job in the PL.

He did however do OK in the cup competitions by scoring x amount of goals and x amount of assists. That better for you?

The difference between Walcott and Downing - Walcott scored and assisted in the PL this season ;)

I hope they don't sack (I mean find another role for) Kenny. I like having him in charge at Liverpool.

Hopefully it'll just be slapped wrists - advise him to stay off the lash, send him on a 'post match interview' course and ask him to try and keep his tounge in his mouth.

Gutted that they've got shot of him.

So will it be Benitez or Martinez as the replacement? :D

I'll miss the drivelling incomprehensible tripe in response to every question he's asked but the danger is they'll eventually stumble accross somebody who knows what they're doing.

looks like you can buy daniel sturridge! What a bargain, 6.6m for a player who isn't even going

I wonder what the official line will be regarding Dalglish 'parting company' with Liverpool ?

Will it be down to the poor season, the poor handling of the Suarez affair, the poor signings or will we never know ?

There's already conflicting views - some obviously want to think he's been sacked and some wanting to think he's decided to leave his post.

I'm hearing Liverpool owners also got rid of Ian Ayre ?

So with Kenny going after a successful season, surely man u will sack ferguson after their "embarrassing" season????

I'm glad rio isn't going. As for richards, He played well at the start of the season, but he hasn't had much football since christmas really, mainly coming on for 10 minutes. A friend of mine who is a city season ticket holder also said that what you don't see of richards on the tv is how lazy he is getting back.

As someone that hasn't missed a City game all season I think your friend must be watching a different player Joe. Richards is the well built fella that has lightening pace, puts his body / head in the way of everything, can attack and defend properly, and can play as a right back or centre half. He has had a great season. Picked up an injury a few weeks ago and Pablo Zabaletta came in and kept his place for the run in.

Gareth barry had only 1 goal in 34 games in the PL - is that 1 goal more relevant then. That's baffling to me.

Very different type of player to Downing. That's like comparing apples with oranges. By the way, although the whole city team in general had an outstanding season, many City fans would tell you that Barry was particularly outstanding. As Vincent Kompany said "Gareth is a players player. Anyone that plays with him will understand completely what he gives the team". He isn't there to score goals, unlike Downing who is more of a winger. How he gets in above Adam Johnson is baffling. He has scored a few, set up a few and has an immediate impact when he comes on if he is a sub. He would be in most people's first team if he played for a different club.

Yes, he scored a goal against stoke but Johnson has scored 7 goals and 4 assists in all competitions compared to 1 goal and 2 assists from downing who's played more games. His selection just makes no sense.

Absolutely agree with that.

Apologies for any City bias but I am still high as a kite after Sunday (albeit with a few more grey hairs!!!). Just off to watch the game again :)

Chris :)

Bit of a can of worms the Liverpool thing.

By all accounts the CEO of Standard Chartered was grilled by shareholders at their AGM and had to defend continued sponsorship links with Liverpool following the stance taken by certain parties within LFC in the wake of the Suarez affair.

It's all those most closely linked to the public handling of the Suarez affair (director of Communications Ian Cotton, director of football Damien Comolli and now Dalglish that have gone. There's been rumour that Managing director Ian Ayre has also gone today but that hasn't been confirmed.

I suspect this one could run but opinion seems divided on whether this clear out is for footballing reasons or Public Relations.

edit - double post problems

So Liverpool have got no Manager, no Director of Football, no Managing Director, no Director of Communications and no new stadium plans.

Is that what they mean when they say YNWA?

I'm really not surprised at Dalglish going. A couple of my mates who are Liverpool fans have not been at all impressed with King Kenny's season.

I hope this season hasn't harmed his reputation there too much though, I can't imagine it had in truth.

Regardless of the season they've had, he will be a hard act to follow!

Happy Kenny has gone. I never wanted him to come back and risk his legacy and reputation. At least now he can't dig himself any deeper and can just be an ambassador for the club he loves.

As for a replacement? Has to be Rafa. Should never have left. Loves the club. Could have taken any number of jobs but didn't.

As for the england squad. Couldn't care less. I would rather there be no Liverpool players in it at all. I want a fit squad for the start of the new domestic season.

Greece for the Euros.

Ready for the relegation battles no doubt.

I recommend you buy him so I stand a chance :D

I hate these things because I have £0.2m left over and keep looking to improve somewhere so I've used every penny!

Re Dalglish, not surprised at his departure, never liked his stint at the Toon. No doubt he will pop up somewhere soon.

Liverpool fan outside Anfield on TV: "Problem with Kenny is you should never go back"

Reporter: "Who would you have now?"

Liverpool fan: "Rafa"

:D

I think Rafa would take it. The fans certainly like him. Listening to a program last night it seems the owners are very unlikely to approach him though. I know a lot of the guff that Roy and Kenny have had to deal with have been Rafa's leftovers but I liked him as he was quite entertaining when the right buttons were pushed. I loved the Meester Ferguson, it's a Facht episode.

I think there was talk last night of AVB wbeing lined up ?
