i've watched it five times and it just gets funnier and funnier everytime:D

McLeish was a silly appointment - rightly or wrongly, you generally need the support of the fans, especially if getting in someone from your rivals.

Agreed, it was a crazy appointment. Not only because he had just relegated a team, bitter rivals, but Villa do not want to see his brand of football.

I'm not sure if its good or bad to be honest. On one hand he's an amazing player, a legend, in my book, but on the other I wonder if the modern game is just too much for him. I guess only time will tell. But he is an extraordinary player nonetheless. And the more I think about it the more I think he should be in the Euro's.

People will think I'm crazy, I'd still have Beckham in the England squad.

re Scholes I think it will be good for Man Utd - can't think there will be many better squad players. He's just so good on the ball.

He was unlucky with the Blues, won them a trophy and then thanks in part to an horrendous injury list lost a lot of good players in the final couple of months or so before the end of the season which really saw them go down.

It was always going to be a struggle at Villa for him going from the Blues, and as the Villa stand at present, they need some work to get back to where they were a couple of years or so ago under O'Neill. It's a brave Manager that takes on that role.

However, they are a club capable of being up there, challenging for European football, that's for sure.

Sounds like they might be going for Lambert - I'd be worried if I was a Norwich fan - he's done a great great job for them. Back to back promotions and staying up in the first season back in the Premier League.

Here's an interesting stat or two taken from the BBC website!

The club’s owner Sheikh Mansour and his investment vehicle Abu Dhabi United Group have sunk at least £1billion into City since 2008.

Compare that to their neighbours at Old Trafford who must contend with massive interest payments on loans taken out by their American owners, the Glazer family, to buy the club. According to some estimates, the Glazers have taken out £500m since their takeover in 2005.

So, makes you wonder where it's all going to end doesn't it, and just who is actually going to compete with MCFC over the next few years

The Glazers have also increased revenue to record levels so whilst they're taking a lot of Uniteds profits out to service the debt they incurred to buy the club, they are at least doing something right. There's a lot of talk regarding what the Glazers intend to do but whether it be the partial float or indeed outright sale - United are going to be in a very strong position when Financial Fair Play comes to the fore.

To me the most interesting situation is exactly how FFP will work and what clubs come up with to get around the system.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...-part-of-Financial-Fair-Play-regulations.html

For example - Sheikh Mansour put 400m into City for a 10-year agreement to rename the stadium The Etihad stadium. This compares to Arsenal's deal with Emirates valued at £90m over 15 years

Etihad are owned by the Abu Dhabi government and the airline's association with the City owner, Sheikh Mansour, a member of the Abu Dhabi royal family. In other words his money going into his club dressed up as Manchester City 'income'. City do not even own the stadium but Manchester city council allowed City to negotiate the naming rights as part of a 20m over 5 years rental increase. A significant part of the deal will go into developing the Etihad Campus as Uefa don't count money spent on improving facilities and decelopment when balancing FFP.
Exact details of where the money will be spent have not been made available however City present the figures to Uefa if necessary.
Other clubs have raised concern to Uefa. Arsenal's Supporters' Trust requested that Uefa look into it as a matter of urgency.
Tim Payton, the Trust spokesman, said: "The deal at Manchester City stretches credulity to the limit. The numbers just don't stack up."

I suspect all clubs will have plans to generate income for FFP and it remains to be seen exactly how Uefa will conduct assessments of 'fair value' for any sponsorship deals.

I guess the next thing will be the 'bigger' Premier League clubs arranging their own overseas deals when the current 'collective' Premier Leage arrangement ends in 2013. They certainly fall well short of Barcelona and Real Madrid who reap an absolute fortune compared other Spanish Clubs.

We are getting sick and tired of the RTM's about this thread,
someone already has a short holiday, anyone want to join him in the cooler?
No? well play nice then!

I'm guessing UEFA's FPP will fail dismally. The largest clubs with the deepest pockets will inevitably win out, the likes of City, Utd, Barca, Madrid and others such as Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal and clubs crom France (PSG maybe) and Germany (Bayern) will have a huge say in that.

At the end of the day those clubs and their massive wealth base will just end up circumventing the system or squeezing it hard enough to ensure it goes away.

That is the danger.

In theory it should benefit the clubs who generate the greatest turnover not those with the deepst pockets or the richest owners.

What it should do and what it will do are however two different things.

See tevez is in trouble again, personally I think Barton should be excused elbowing that horrible little man! Totally out of order and disrespectful.

Well, I don't know about some of them but arsenal are certainly fans of the fpp.

Not really sure how 36 games, no goals and no assists constitutes 'best season for ages'. I guess you're kidding...considering you bought because of his crossing/assisting ability.

he has scored this year, just not in the PL.

If you look just at the stats I can see why you would think that but I have watched nearly every game and he's been much better than he was at villa.

When he first came to us, I wasn't impressed

But he has won me over.

Somebody mentioned Downing. You need your sound on.........

Can't watch this at the moment but it's not perchance the downing hitting balls into a wheelie bin clip is it? Rumour has it the owners wanted downing based on that clip.

no it's a black screen since downing didn't get any goals or assist in the PL this year - league and fa cup only.

this is the one you are talking about.

Perhaps the owners knew what the new Liverpool frontline were going to be like.

Agreed, but I suspect he didn't even know what it was he'd been given. To be fair City have come out and apologised.

Very much so.

TW: I do have a funny story to tell you! When we first were talking about Stewart Downing, we looked on the internet to see what we could learn about him. And there was some footage of Stewart that maybe you can show our fans, where he is, from 30 yards away, kicking a football into five different trash cans and it's brilliant.
John and I said, 'Oh my god, this player is brilliant, we've got figure out a way to make a deal with him.' We later found out of course that the footage was somewhat doctored but we were so excited about Downing joining Liverpool.

See - you just need to make a doctored you tube video to play for the reds :D

Next thing you'll be saying he should go to the Euros :shake:

It's sometimes nice to try and be objective when you looking at your teams/players performances - but those red tinted glasses are really on there!

lol

It may seem that way but I genuinely think downing has put in good performances this season. I won't say that about every player - charlie adam and jordan henderson have been dire apart from one or two games.I also don't think gerrard has added anything to the team this season.

In fact the only players I think have consistently played well (whilst still lacking goals by the way) are:

suarez
bellamy
downing
rodriguez and kuyt - when they played, which was hardly at all
skrtel

everyone else has been poor - how's that for objective?

Joe is correct, Downing is a great Liverpool player, they should sign another like him for the same money. They could then have a midfield of Downing, Henderson, Adam, Downing mkii, with Suarez and Carroll upfront, they would tear the league apart with the best value for money midfield and forward line in the Premier League ;)

I always wondered what they doctored in that video. Did they fake each ball even going into any bins. Or did he take 500 shots and they pieced 5 together to make it look consecutive. I was trying to see a line where they could mask it and actually it was someon off camera throwing the balls into the bins. It's so well done.

it's a funny thing football, but that lineup of midfield and attackers really should do well on potential - henderson, adam and caroll all just didn't perform when they left their clubs - much like joe cole.

It must be a disease right now, as soon as they touch the anfield sign they lose all skill and ability - I think alex ferguson put a voodoo curse on it.

I think he was told roughly where to kick the balls and then the bins were edited in.

yeah, I think the only one that even looks real that it would have hit the bin in that way and not knocked the bin over or rattled it is the 4th one, the others are too flat. some good editing skills right there

I like Downing, there I've said it, haha. I hope he goes to the Euros.

Mind you, I thought Cole going to Liverpool was a fantastic move for both parties too at the time :coat:

i think most people did, it just didn't happen. I saw an interview with cole a few months ago and he really regrets making that move now, but who knew it would turn out the way it did. I've always liked joe cole

I hope one day to see him back on these shores and playing the sort of football he was that scored this goal

In all seriousness, when I watched Suarez live against his general forward play was great - movement, holding up the ball, turns etc - however he should have scored a couple and did not. He he could find his shooting boots...

As for Carroll, I think Liverpool need to change their style of play for ti to work for him.

or caroll adapts. The last few weeks he has shown a lot of potential, his aerial play is outstanding. Against chelsea it was incredible the amount of balls he won in the air - and the effect really showed, we put 4 goals past them.

But Liverpool's play has not done them any favours so perhaps a change of style would work.

A panel of experts have selected Ryan Giggs and Fergie as the player and manager of the 20 years of the Premier League's existence.

No **** Sherlock.

No confirmation of the Kenny sacking/resignation yet, but that's hardly surprising when everyone else has been fired as well
