I watched it too, my god wolves were awful. That first Hernandez goal the wolves defence was perhaps the worst I have seen all season. Great performance by Valencia I though he deserved the man of the match over Rooney.

Sacking McCarthy seems to have backfired! Good, serves them right. Wolves to finish bottom I think.

It wasn't even a game really was it.

Don't get me wrong - I thought this fixture had banana skin wriiten all over it but having watched it - Wolves were (excuse the phrase) in a different league.

The sending off was deserved (two crappy tackles) but even I wished the ref would just let it go.

I've seen bigger wins (and equal defeats) but that match really bugs me as we (the Premier league) like to think that our financial system doesn't result in the kind of things we see in Spain.

So it looks like my team is going to make it into the SPL as we are currently 15 points clear with 8 games to go (although that could go to 12 points if Dundee win their game in hand tonight) but last Sat County played Falkirk and County got an early penalty and scored.....this is how one Falkirk fan reacted.

Apparently he did not realise Falkirk where in white that day.

To be honest I saw Wolves when they had McCarthy - at 11v11 they were awful. I'll be amazed if they and Wigan don't go down. Then it's one of Bolton, QPR and Blackburn.

We have Liverpool tonight, and need a win, desperately.

I've not dared click the link at work, but he certainly looks to have an interesting running style from the still image!

forgot to do our predictions this week tom doh!

hopefully liverpool can follow on from the last two wins and put qpr to bed tonight

I think tonight man u will go further ahead at the top - city are meeting chelsea at the wrong time. I predict a draw.

I can't see it though Al. Might just scrape a draw with a following wind but that wouldn't be enough IMO. Blackburn's win against a poor Sunderland performance did us no favours and you can guarantee they'll be a lot better against us on Saturday. :bang:

in which case, City will close the current 4 point gap, to a 3 point gap  ;)

well yeah.

But i never think of it that way, I don't think of the difference until the game week is over. So last week they were 1 point ahead and after this week they'll be 3 points ahead.

We can certainly win, though I'm not putting money on it! Cisse and Zamora look good together, Tarrabt might be back as well as Luke Young. Cisse will want to score against former club that let him go. If Liverpool lose their shooting boots again, it can be done. That said some of their players on their own cost more than our entire 1st team - but I shall keep my optimistic hat on until the score after one minute!

We've tended to do better against the 'bigger' teams this season other than Man Utd who controlled the match start to finish, but I'd certainly have been happier with Gerrard still out.

Night games = great atmosphere - I'm looking forward to it.

I don't think it will be 0-0!

Yep, have missed the last match as work sent me out of the country but have a Season Ticket so make most games.

Wish Faurlin was playing, that's been the biggest disaster him getting injured for the season.

I want to stay up, but would not be that depressed with the Championship, in many ways I prefer it to the Premier League.

well yeah.

I'm with you ... does my head in when the evening news makes a big thing of a gap being closed at ten to five ... a gap that only existed since the final whistle of a lunchtime game ...

me too!

So 'El Plastico' tonight - I expect nothing but 3 points from City at home tonight. I'll be hoping that Chelsea do United a favour although if City are going to drop more points then I'd imagine it will be away from home where their form has become somewhat ropey.

Still, you never know. They may just get the wobbles.

Footballer dies after collapsing on the pitch in India

The first class pitchside treatment received by Fabrice Muamba was thrown into sharp relief today by the death of a footballer who collapsed while playing in India.

28 year-old Bangalore Mars player Venkatesh collapsed during the warm up ahead of his side's game against SW Railway.

Whereas Fabrice Muamba was immediately treated by club doctors and paramedics at White Hart Lane, Bangalore Football Stadium didn't even have an ambulance on crew on hand.

Instead Venkatesh's team mates had to hire an auto rickshaw to take him to the nearest hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

It is thought Venkatesh died of a cardiac arrest, although doctors are refusing to speculate until they receive the results of his post-mortem.

i said that to my mate the other day... Muamba (and all PL players) have the added comfort of having top notch first aiders to hand to assist in any emergency situation, thank god. But if that had happened to the man in the street he'd have no chance.

Anyway.. come on Chelsea!!! Can't believe i'm saying that :gag: but if they win it also brings them into a mini play-off for 3rd place between the London clubs. I'm not sure how my missus will react when i say i want to go to the boozer tonight to watch City... she'll think i've gone nuts

Fabrice Muamba was a lot luckier than you think because there was a consultant cardiologist in the crowd who went onto the pitch and helped out the club doctors. Full story at the link

Bittersweet night for me, losing a 2-0 lead to qpr, that must have been some game.

But on the bright side city close the gap on manure.

Fully expected the City home win but I was starting to think Chelsea were going to take something from the game. Had to chuckle at the way the QPR Liverpool game panned out.

I wonder if Cambsno still wants Wenger out and Barton in our midfield after today!

Just wait till the fans turn on Dalglish.....there's plenty more results like that to come from Liverpool!!

Never mind - I had it pointed out to me that they still hold the record for consecutive years finishing in the top 8

Yes, I still think wenger is not the man for the job if we want to win something. Our recent form proves that when everyone is fit then we are a good side but once we get an injury or 2 then we are poor. On this form we can beat Man city but would you guarantee us not to balls up against this season.

Everything is going in our favor of late. Rosicky after 2 years of being rubbish has started playing well. RVP has stayed fit and in form. Other players are scoring and we have had some luck. The biggest factor is that spurs are bottling it, Chelsea have been poor and Liverpool can't score and have lost 4 in 5. Realistically Chelsea will splash the cash and get a manager, and my money would b on them and two Manchester clubs to be in top 4 next season. Leaving us, Spurs and Liverpool to fight it out. To ensure CL football we need to buy players. Only time will tell.

I've never been so pleased to be wrong. Just goes to show, Barton off and we score 3 goals! Off to watch MotD shortly, not often this season have I looked forward to that.

:)

Well it goes down as one of my favourite games ever, not expected to win, really needing to win, not looking likely at 0-2.

Liverpool absolutely murdered us for the 1st 15-20 minutes, played some really nice one touch pass and move, looked like we were going to lose by a fair margin. Suarez seems, other than his habit of falling over quite theatrically a lot, to do all the right things in terms of runs, on the ball etc, but he had two great chances and scored neither.

We got back into it and were on top at the end of the 1st half. We then conceded two poor goals (1st was well taken but poor from our side - the second I expect Mr Hansen to murder us for).

I'm not quite sure how we won, we certainly looked from 2-2, but Liverpool really threw it away with poor finishing. That said I don't care! :D

This feels very very good!

just watched the game on MOD. The defending from liverpool on the 2nd and 3rd goal was laughable. But what a goal from coates and suarez looked superb once again - stewart downing is really hitting his form, i hope that continues into the euros this summer.

The points mean more to QPR right now, our league place isn't going to change much, for us the only real target now is the FA cup, and finishing above everton.

I just hope that city can prove me wrong and take the title from united. Carling cup win and at least a semi final for the FA cup married with united not winning a single trophey would make this my favourite season for a good few years.

Apparently Tony Pulis has escaped being banned from driving despite having 15 points now on his licence on the grounds that it would cause Stoke City and the people of Stoke-on-Trent exceptional hardship. What an absolute load of bullcrap. Why the hell should he be let off just because of his job?!

Story here.

Are you serious Joe or just grasping for a 'LFC have had a better season than United' angle ?

If that really is a view representative of Liverpool supporters then I'm happy.

The measure of any team is their standing in the league table at the end of the season.

Our league standing has been thereabouts where it is now for the last few seasons so it's no different. Not saying I'm happy with where it is but in comparison to the last few since we came 2nd its better than any of them, which means progression albeit slow.

Not checked this article out but the following kind of makes sense although projection for this season is based on not getting better or worse and ends with equal points tally to worst season of 1998/99

LFC last 6 seasons ranked in order. Shows incline over 3 seasons 2006/07-2008/09 then decline over 3 seasons 2009/10-2011/12

1ST 2008/09 – P38/W25/D11/L2/F77/A27 = 86 points
2ND 2007/08 – P38/W21/D13/L4/F67/A28 = 76 points
3RD 2006/07 P38/W20/D8/L10/F57/A27 = 68 points
4TH 2009/10 – P38/W18/D9/L11/F61/A35 = 63 points
5TH 2010/11 – P38/W17/D7/L14/F59/A44 = 58 points
6TH 2011/12 – P29/W11/D9/L9/F35/A29 = 54 points (calc from ave pts with 9 remaining)

LFC Last 10 seasons

2011/12 = 54 points
2010/11 = 58 points = 6th
2009/10 = 63 points = 7th
2008/09 = 86 points = 2nd
2007/08 = 76 points = 4th
2006/07 = 68 points = 3rd
2005/06 = 82 points = 3rd
2004/05 = 58 points = 5th
2003/04 = 60 points = 4th
2002/03 = 64 points = 5th
2001/02 = 80 points = 2nd
2000/01 = 69 points = 3rd
1999/00 = 67 points = 4th
1998/99 = 54 points = 7th
1997/98 = 65 points = 3rd
1996/97 = 68 points = 4th
1995/96 = 71 points = 3rd
1994/95 = 74 points = 4th *
1993/94 = 60 points = 8th *
1992/93 = 59 points = 6th *

* 42 game season before reduction to 38

Compare this season to the last few. The last 2 seasons we got no tropheys and no semi finals. Compared to the last few seasons a carling cup win and fa cup semi is progression. No need to go searching through stats. It's a simple statement.

Man u this season would be regression compared to the recent last few.

It was a follow up to the comment about the measure of a team (and it's progress) being based on league standings / points at the end of a season rather than what happens in cups.

As for United. I agree - if they finish with less points than last season and as a result finish 2nd in the league then it's a backward step regardless of anything else.

I don't think the league standing is the only thing to go by, it's the performance across all competitions. For Liverpool their league standing has been around the same place for the last few years so that's static, it's in other competitions where they have shown more success. On the whole as a season this one has been better than the last few.

For united it's not just the league standing. Even when they win the league this season will have been worse than most of recent years given their early exits from FA cup, carling cup and Europe. As I think you said earlier, this is the first time in ten years they didn't rech a cup final.

Saying United are on a dip if they finish second is as ridiculous as pundits etc saying a team has hit good form when they get a single win after five draws/losses

I didn't say they were on a dip.

This season has been their worst for a number of years in terms of success. That's not opinion that's fact. They have had less success in all competitions this season than in recent years.

I don't think the league standing is the only thing to go by,

I think it is in terms of quality. Simple.

Of course we have the domestic cups and whatever Euro competitions our teams might be in or not in blah blah but that's no measure......
